Book Smarts vs Street Smarts

Well, the key is in being as balanced as possible.
A mix of the two is the perfect cocktail.

There are just a few guys I know that can get really high scores in tests and when they are outside the school they behave like smart street kids like can solve everyday-things with the common sense of a street guy.

I'm more like a street guy than like a nerd or something like that.
I've had too many problems in my life that taught me how to get a balanced behaviour. I don't get top scores but I don't get too many bad ones either. And I know how to get out of troubles easily most of the times, but no one's perfect anyway :).

See ya!

Also, it's not that they don't have common sense at all. It's just that they spend so many time over the books that they don't get to live the everyday things, you know... they know nothing when it comes to the real life out of the school.

But, anyway this is like comparing the Rich Kids and the Street Kids...

See ya!

Ok, I've been pondering this question for some time now. Me as an ordinary student see many brilliant kids that get good grades and awesome test scores, but they are so dumb in real life situations, as if they had no common sense.

I mean is it the educational system that makes students this dumb in real life? I remember not long ago that Rhizome posted a thread dealing with how the American Education system is like a "factory" that sorta produce future businessmen and lawyers and future exploiatators.

Why can't the education system be different. I've heard that there was an experiment in England, where they took low-average students into a school where they wanted to do anything they wanted. They could learn by themselves and pursue other interesting things without an instructor forcing the child to learn the material.

Look, thats the problem with schools. It's bland, repetitive and can be very frustrating if you don't get anything out of it. I've seen many good minds go to waste because they couldn't be bothered. If kids were encouraged from a very young age to go out and read the kinds of books that interest them, they'd have a much better education. They'd get a) common sense, b) writing/spelling skills c) knowledge about the real world.

Or is it all a conspiracy from the government to keep us dumb?

:mrpimp:

by gosh nancy, lets write a novel on absolute crap.

school sucks!

Nuff sed...

I don't think it's the education system, but the individual. You could teach two peeps with the same IQ, but if one is an arse then he'll probably do worse, despite the teaching method...

You can't just go blaming the education system for idiots that think their gangsters or summort. you know, the dickheads that have to be in a big group to feel tough. :kader:

Of course there's sh!t teachers, I had one last year in college, his methods were w!nk, I wanted and everyone else wanted to kill him with a passion. That tossa shud have bin fired, wot a waste of time he was. :f***:
