Canada is fully capable of organize a world cup. the problem is not the structures, it's the awful level of the canadian NT. a home country must at least have a decent squad. Canada clearly does not have it.

Oh, I don't know if that should really be a determining factor. Canada could probably beat Saudi Arabia, and the Saudis are in the World Cup every year.

To my knowledge, one of the major motivations behind the choice of a World Cup host is often determining which countries have potential to grow as a footballing nation. Canada has a lot of potential, like a few recent hosts -- the US and Korea come to mind. Neither national team had ever had a strong showing on a global stage, but both countries were terrific hosts.

Having a strong national side doesn't make a country a better host, it just makes that country more likely to succeed during the tournament.

My worry about Canada is the structures. Does Canada have enough interest, enough desire, and most importantly, enough money to renovate some of these older stadiums? Olympic Stadium in Montreal and the SkyDome in Toronto aren't exactly the friendliest venues for any sport, and I wouldn't be surprised if FIFA were to demand renovations for these and the others.

why is there this myth that Canada is as bad as luxembourg or something? Canada of today is no worse than the US was back when they hosted it in 94. In fact, just weeks before that WC was played we tied Brazil 1-1 in front of a packed stdium in Edmonton....and yes, Brazil played with their full squad, Romario, bebeto, etc, etc. Canada back then didn't have half the squad we have today either. Like it was mentioned before, if we didn't get clearly, and without question robbed twice by two retarded third-world refs in qualifying, I'm convinced we'd be at the WC insted of T&T.

Toronto is getting a soccer specific stadium next year and Vancouver is building one also. Montreal will probably build one in a few years as well. The problem is that even if Canada gets to host the WC the government would still be cheap and might not spend as much money renovating or building new stadiums in cities like Winnepeg, Calgary, etc. FIFA awarded the U20 WC and it still took so damn long for Toronto to decide to build a stadium. It even almost didn't get built because funding wasn't there.

Also field turf is a non issue as FIFA is approving it and new stadiums are being built with field turf.

Actually it would be very succesful in Canada. Common especially the multicultural cities (Toronto would be literally booming. + USA is close and Mexico isnt far nor expensive (cheaper to go to Cancuun than Vancouver :( )<Economically, it suits everyone....even the Europeans>

I couldnt believe how amazing Toronto was the last world cup. There wasnt 1 car that didnt have a flag. They had to close down streets when Korea and Brazil won. The Canadian media gave it 100% attention (with all the major channels having major coverage). Like what more could u ask for.

EDIT- On a side note...The Toronto PPL. Did you guys watch any games on Channel 22? Did you see how DEAD Craig Forest was after covering 3 games straight from 3-9AM ...lol. Poor guy . (He's an awesome keeper and commentator though :rockman: )

But i remember by the time the 3rd game hit, hed be with red eyes and like :"Uh...right now we have Japan...and .......*zzzzzzzz*.....Oh.....Sorry....Japan vs. Green land......er....i mean Belgium. So.....*zzzzzzzz*"

and I met JAmes Sherman (from 53) when Brazil won the world cup. Cool guy.

They are Stadiums used by CFL teams but I think some might also be used by universities.

it would be very conceivable for canada to host the world cup in 2014. it's 8 years away for God sakes. if we were granted it, there would be no doubt in my mind that almost every city would be renovating or building new stadiums. just the amount of money that it would bring to Canada, if it was granted to us, it would be an obvious worthwhile investment.

oh and ain't she a beaut (H)

they have been pushing for a new stadium for the last couple of years anyways. if by chance we got the world cup, we would get a new one forsure.
