Can't access Linksys router setup (192.168.1.1)

So I bought a Powerbook today and I'm getting it all set up and it detects the current wireless network I have installed in the house. When I try to connect up to it it tells me that I need to configure the Powerbook in the router setup menu, which seems quite obvious.

Now I used to be able to access the Linksys router setup menu through 192.168.1.1 but when I tried accessing it today it wouldn't work. I checked the IP addresses and it shows me that my IP address is different to that of the router so that isn't the problem. It shows the default gateway as 192.168.1.1 which is the standard access IP for the setup menu (it should still work since I haven't changed anything).

Any idea why I can't access the damn setup menu?

The only thing i can think of, is a someshort of firewall not allowing you to do that. Make sure not any software firewall blocks you, make sure you didnt have your router block/restrict access (if u did and you cant remember how you can re-enter it, just reset) and also make sure, your network adapter(s) dont have their firewall enabled. Basicaly just disable any existing firewall untill you get access to your router. If this doesnt work, reset your router (hopefully you have a backup of your settings)

did you encrypt the network with a password or letter keys and haven't enabled that from your powerbook? :(

maybe thats what alex was trying to say, i just didn't quite understand :jap:

Luis, it's not the Powerbook, it's the actual router that just need to be configured (ie. add the Powerbook to the list of computers that are allowed onto the Wireless Network - security feature).

I'll try looking for any firewalls that could be blocking me, cheers. I don't want to reset the router as I don't have the settings backed-up and I'm not much of a networking whizz.

Good news, got everything working. I'm actually typing this from my lovely Powerbook. I just turned the power off and on again on the router and then was able to get to the setup menu. Just had to add the Powerbook's MAC address and voila.
