Eh, no there won't be. The whole point of the online play now is that you pay a monthly fee for it. If they enable direct IP again via a patch then people will make their own leagues like in previous years and not use EA's service.

That was part of their development plan for the series like iwth the other EA sports titles, to make all online gaming fee-based.

Sure there will be. They'll go against their entire marketing strategy which has been laid out as part of their timeline for the last 18 months to please people who have bought the game and want to pay online for free.

Maybe they'll send out everybody a new version too rather than having to d/l a patch.

There will be no patch! If I'm wrong (and even 99% of the hardcore fifa fans know I won't be) then come on here and tell me they released a patch. There's been no patch support for FIFA titles since 2001, what makes you think they'll do it now?

Let me guess, the patch will put replays in, reverse their entire pay-per-play strategy, allow controller configuration, add dynamic weather, etc. etc.

Don't hold your breath!

Yer and the mods in the official forum seem pretty certain. Understand where you're coming from though, I remember thinking last year "surely they have to patch this game, I can't head the ball ffs" and we all know how out of their way the FIFA team went to sort that out.

This year it seems there were chunks ripped out at the last minute to make their final deadline, so a patch seems likely. Is this Isaac guy going to get the boot? Seems project management isn't one of is strong points...

That's a point, wonder how many people have remained in the core FIFA team over the past few releases? Would be interesting to see how many names have remained constant in the credits over this time. My guess is you won't find many, which would explain how each year can actually have the one step forward two steps back feel.
