Do you have players out on loan?? When you add back those players to your current squad does it add up to more than 30 players?? If you're not sure how many players you have out on loan then the Contract Alerts screen will show you. As a supplemental question, do you have one or more players that show up in the player growth screen as all question marks??
Whilst the game stops you from growing your squad larger than 30 it does not seem to take account of players out on loan. Unless those players are balanced by others retiring then, at the start of the next season, you will end up with a squad that is too large and that might cause the game to crash.
