Man United:

I am at the top of the table by 2 points, thanks to Manchester City beating my opposition, Tottenham. However, United could have jumped into a 5 point lead with 27 games played, but suffered a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Southampton. Southampton went up 3-0 with goals in the 21st, 56th, and 79th minute. However, Matt Edwards (Giggs) scored a brilliant header in the 84th to give the away supporters some hope, which was raised in the 88th when Cristiano Ronaldo unleashed a wicked scorcher into the lower corner, to make it 3-2. United almost salvaged a point when Paddy Quinn (Keane) took a 40 yard drive which struck the crossbar and bounced to a defender.

Ruud van Nistelrooy is currently out with a bruised toe, which he picked up against Millwall in the final of the
League Cup, which United won in penalties, with Zisis Zagorakis (Nikopolidis) making three consecutive saves. Prutton (Scholes), Rooney, and Edwards (Giggs) scored their attempts to seal the cup.

Arsenal beat United in the English Cup Round 3, with a score of 2-1.

After going up 2-0 in the first half vs Birmingham City, United let in two goals in the second to get a weak point. Tottenham's victory meant that they equalled United's points, and are only behind because of goal differential. Both of our teams have only decent league records, we are both at 16 wins, 5 draws, and 7 losses! Newcastle is 3 points behind with a game in hand, and are 14-8-5, while Fulham is in 4th with two games in hand at 14-7-5. Arsenal is fifth with one game in hand, and have 48 points and a record of 14-6-7.

The teams looking at relegation are Everton (3-10-13: 19), Crystal Palace (3-13-11:22), and Sheffield United (5-8-15: 23). Wolves have 24 points.

Despite my league lead, I have kept the fewest clean sheets, with only 3 in 28 games. I have also allowed the most goals, with 46. United has 72 goals this season.

Surfy, good luck with AZ Alkmaar!! I think playing in the Dutch League is really fun, especially against Feyenoord and PSV...

CAREER UPDATE:

Then Glasgow Rangers defeated Hearts with a score of 0-1 away from home. The player who scored the winning goal was star striker Dado Prso.

Their next opponents were Hibernian. It was a hard game, as Brown scored. Late on Khizanishvili got one back for Rangers, and then Arveladze was awarded a penalty, and he scored, leading Rangers to a 2-1 home win over Hibernian.

After that Rangers played away versus Aberdeen, and Skara won the game for Rangers with a score of 0-1. But in the match Taylor was injured and will be out for a week. Then they crushed Livingston 5-0. Prso got a hattrick, and Manuel Pablo and Poborsky grabbed a goal each.

Now for Rangers's last UCL group match, against PAOK. Rangers won the match 0-2 thanks to the goals from Gavin Rae and Karel Poborsky. Rangers advance to the 2nd Round of the UEFA Champions League, and their next opponents are Spanish giants Barcelona.

Then Rangers beat Kilmarnock 0-1. After 17 games, Rangers are in 1st place with 41 points with a league record of 13-0-0. Their rivals Celtic are in 2nd, but a huge 11 points behind. Now it's January, and Italiano made a few transfers which can be seen below. There were no transfers made into the club, only sellings were made by the manager.

OUT : Ricksen (RWM-To Stabaek-77), Namouchi (CAM-To Bournemouth-62)

Their next match was versus Dundee, and the match ended in goal-less, 0-0 draw. Next they had another 0-0 draw, this time with Dumferline FC. Then they defeated Inverness CT 1-2 away, thanks to goals from Shota Arveladze and left-winger Lovenkrands.

Next Rangers beat Motherwell 2-0. This time the goal-scorers were striker Karel Poborsky, and a rare goal from centre-back Khizanishvili. Then Rangers beat Dundee United 1-2, thanks to Gaizka Mendieta's late goal.

Then Rangers crushed Aberdeen 2-0, this time with the goals coming from strikers Dado Prso and Karel Poborsky. Next they beat Dundee United 5-2, thanks to goals from Burke, Mendieta, Poborsky, Prso, and Anton Skara. Next Rangers beat Dunfermline 1-3 away, with Dado Prso getting a hattrick.

Then Rangers beat Hearts 2-0. Over the next two weeks Rangers will play the two-legged round against Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League. Unfortunately, Rangers lost both legs against Barcelona, meaning their UCL dreams are over for this season at least.

Rangers next game was versus Livingston in the Scottish Cup. Rangers won 3-1, which means they face their rivals Celtic in the semis of the cup. Next they beat Kilmarnock 2-0. They also beat Inverness CT with a score of 2-0.

Rangers beat Celtic 5-2 in the Scottish Cup, and they face Kilmarnock in the finals. They won the remainder of their league games, meaning they have won the SPL Title for the second season running.

Their last match was the Scottish Cup Final versus Kilmarnock. Rangers won the Scottish FA Cup for the second time in two seasons, with two goals from Skara securing a 2-0 victory.

Season Summary : It has been an excellent two season with Rangers. Italiano has helped Rangers win the SPL and Scottish Cup for two years in a row, along the way making many transfers and changes to improve the squad. For his excellent work, Italiano has been awarded another star, making him a 11/2 Star manager. However, he has refused the Board's offer to renew his contract, much to the sadness and dissapointment of the club.

PRE-SEASON 2006 - 2007
Gian-Luca received many offers from numerous clubs around Europe. But the most tempting one came from Liverpool FC. The English club, having has two poor seasons, and having heard of Italiano's amazing success with Glasgow Rangers, offered him a one-year contract, and Italiano agreed.

SEASON 2006 - 2007
The first thing he did was to make several transfers before the first games of the season, and the transfers made can be seen below.

OUT : Rzasa (GK-To Benfica-64), Smicer (RAM-To Newcastle United-77)
IN : Santa Cruz (ST-Bayern Munchen-80), Fahrenhorst (CB-SV Werder Bremen-86)

Then Italiano arranged the squad's line-up, and the information regarding line-ups, substitutes, reserves, and also team tactics can be seen below.

Formation : 4-4-2
Mentality : Attack
Style of Play : Wings
Defense : Neutral
OffsideTrap : On

Starting 11 :

-------------- Cisse ----- Moro' ----------
Kewell ----- Xabi' --- Gerrard ----- Baros
J.A. Riise -- Hyppia - Fahren' --- Carragher
------------------ Kirkland ---------------

Substitutes : Biscan, Josemi, Hamaan, Santa Cruz, Luis Garcia
Reserves : Sinama Pongolle, Le Tallec, Carson, Potter, Lopez, Warnock, Finnan, Traore, Whitbread, Nunez, Welsh, Mellor

Kick-Takers :
- Left Corner : Riise
- Right Corner : Baros
- Free-kicks : Morientes
- Penalties : Gerrard
Captain : Steven Gerrard

Liverpool's first opponents of the season are AC Milan, and the teams are fighting for a place in the UEFA Champions League. Both teams face each other in the two-legged Qualifying Round. The first leg was action-packed. Cisse scored an early goal, but before half-time a defensive error allowed Shevchenko to equalise. In the second-half, Hernan Crespo scored, but Cisse brought the game to 2-2. The match ended in a draw, but with two very important away goals for Liverpool.

ECC Round 2Leg 1: At Old Trafford, we go up 1-0 from a brilliant Ronaldo strike. However, United were playing an understrength side, which allowed Stuttgart pull two back and win the game 2-1, heading into the second leg.

Premier League: vs Chelsea Home

Leading 4-2 with 20 minutes left, when I take off Wayne Rooney from an injury, and Gabriel Heinze. Drogba scores in the 83rd to make it 4-3. Wes Brown, playing left back, concedes a penalty. Drogba strikes it, and Zagorakis saves it, but it comes to Cole who puts it in to make it 4-4. Again, my defense has shows it's weakness. Still, only 3 clean sheets in the 30 games of the season.

Premier League: vs Fulham @ Craven Cottage

United went up 2-0 after 12 minutes with goals from van Nistelrooy and Prutton (Scholes). However, Elvis Hammond (Cole) pulled one back for Fulham, before van Nistelrooy netted two more to complete the hat trick and make it 4-1.

ECC Round 2 Leg 2: vs Stuttgart Away

Down 2-1 after the first leg, United need to either win by two goals, or win by one while scoring at least two goals which would force extra time. I didn't make the same mistake of playing subs and reserves, and attacked Stuttgart with my starting team, with reserve keeper Niki Roiha in goal due to the inconsistency of Zagorakis, Formann, and Howard. Only Rooney was missing, due to an ankle sprain. United had all the pressure in the first half, but the Stuttgart keeper had already made 6 saves after 30 minutes and seemed destined to ensure Stuttgart's advance. However, Ronaldo struck a brilliant free kick into the lower corner from 25 yards out, which the keeper could not get to. 5 minutes later, Jonathan Prutton (Scholes) took advantage of a defensive trend. Every time a winger took the ball down the flank, three players swarmed around van Nistelrooy, who has scored dozens of headers this season. van Nistelrooy made his run while Edwards (Giggs) controlled on the base line. However, Edwards waited until van Nistelrooy had taken all of his markers away, and then crossed to a wide open Prutton, who chested it down and toe poked the ball into the lower corner of the net. 2-0 United at the half. The game was not yet over though, as one Stuttgart goal would force extra time. van Nistelrooy ensured that this didn't occur in the 49th minute, when he was brought down in the box and capitalized on the penalty. The opposing keeper made an astounding 19 saves, but the swarming United attack proved too much. In my net, Niki Roiha made four stops, including two brilliant saves within seconds, diving from one side of the net to the other, and then back to save the rebound and force a corner. Roiha won man of the match, as United advance to the quarter finals.

Quarter Finals:

AC Milan vs Lyon
Manchester United vs Barcelona
Parma vs FC Basel 1893
Arsenal vs Lillestrom

Glad you're enjoying your career so much....but it might be time to move up a difficulty level. When I first started playing my career, I kept it pretty low level so I could move up fast. Now that I'm in the Premiership and where I want to be, I have moved up to Professional...I think it's boring to win every game 6-0...and this game really makes you work on the upper levels. I also like the fact that at times I struggle to win games and have to change formations, playing styles, attack modes...sometimes all during the same game.

Now, I don't know what level you're playing on...you may be one of those guys who can beat WC 6-0 every time out...although that would be plenty hard to believe on this game because it will cheat like he** if nothing else to beat you at least a few times.

But, that's my advice. Reach a level where you have got a really good team with great players...then move up in difficulty. I find that it's much more fun that way.

Good luck and keep us up to date!

Cheers,
mutiger

Update:

The second leg loss-win has basically summed up the entire season. We didn't play our best football against Barcelona, and we got thrashed 3-0 in Old Trafford; however we still won 5-4 aggregate because of a 5-1 first leg. This sums up the whole season as the board and fans were happy, they cheered United after losing 3-0 at home. This season has been one of complacency and laziness. We've relied on Ruud van Nistelrooy to save us, and he has come through time and time again to break 2-2 or 3-3 ties. However, the win is not a real win because we are beating weak opposition, but leaking goals in the process. We've become complacent. In Europe, in the first leg against Barcelona at the Nou Camp, we played our best game of the year. After that, we put in 3 of the worst performances of my career. 3-0 loss to Barcelona, 2-1 loss to Leicester City, and a 3-2 win against West Brom, with a van Nistelrooy goal in stoppage time getting us the three points. I am strongly considering retiring from United's staff at the end of this season, as I feel that the results we are achieving on a domestic level are not up to par. Despite having 30 more goals than any other team in the league, we are still in second by one point due to lazy defense and shaky goaltending. In the last season, over 140000 points have been spent in just these two areas. However, we still leak goals, even against the weaker sides in the league. Ruud van Nistelrooy will retire after this season, so I may not have a 100% dependable striker to salvage miracle wins, depending on whether or not Rooney can regain form after a poor season.

It might seem weird that I am considering leaving the club despite winning the League Cup, and still having a good chance to win the league and the Champions League, but I feel that my performance as a manager has dropped. I have contemplated going to a low division, without brilliant star strikers, where weak defense is punished by not having a lean-on striker to get us the three points regardless of our defense. Right now, it feels that everyone is complacent with just winning, rather than winning with class. I never thought I'd leave United, but I am seriously thinking about it.
