Also, has anyone else gotten new young players at the end of the season that are from the scout guy?

I don't know if he gives you any players, because I left Northampton after I completed my season and went to Leeds.

About the players I bought, I'm not quite sure where I got them from because I looked through so many teams, but their names are:

Stephane Biakolo - Striker (from Niort French Div 2)
Liedson - ST (from Sporting Lisbon Portugese SuperLiga)
Juanma - RM (from Levante Spanish Div 2)
Boniquet - CM (from a French Div 1 or 2 team?)

I can't remember for sure where I got these guys, but they're all decent, they get the job done, and they weren't ridiculously expensive. Although, I did sell some of my players to be able to afford them, but they were all better value players than the ones I had. I think that most of them are rated in the 70s, so you should be able to negotiate deals with them.

I was also looking at a guy named Kanu (not the former Gunner), he was on some Brasilian team, but I found Biakolo instead, and I'll tell you...Biakolo is better than Ricketts by far.

A couple other good buys would be Frederic Piquionne, striker from Saint Entienne in French League 1 and Zoltan Gera, striker/midfielder, West Brom, Premier League. I might consider them, but I don't really need a striker.

In my career, it's early November and I've got 6450 points. I'm looking to sell one of my midfielders and get David Bentley in the January transfer window.

Oh, one other thing...if you win something like 10 or 12 in a row, the Board of Directors will give you a 100 point windfall to spend on of your trainers and staff members. That happened to me tonight. I was lucky to win quite a few of those games though.

Career mode question

Hi,

I got a question about Fifa 2005 career mode :
I just started my 2nd season in French Ligue 1 and my objective is to get a "respectable position at the end of the season" (don't really know what it would look like in english, but that's a good translation from the french sentence).

What do they expect ?
Can they be less precise ? :)

Oh, something else : during the first season I was asked to be champion, I was (2nd division of course), and in the end they told me they were disappointed with the performance. Anyone already encountered this kind of bug ? Or I misunderstood the word "champion", and in fact they wanted a cup...

Thanks for your help,

JoseBob

Wow, they are demanding in the French Leagues. My first season in the 2nd division of England, they wanted me to "finish in the top half of the table" and now I'm in my first season in the English Championship and they want the same thing, "finish in the top half of the table".

When they say "champion", I would assume that it means they want you to win French League 1. That's crazy though, there's no way if you were just promoted. I don't think they could be more demanding.

Yeah, I assumed the same thing, but it would be hilarious :)

"Darn, you didn't even won the champion's league this year ! You SUCK !
What ? You were in 2nd league ? This is no excuse !"

I think the "respectable" position corresponds to what you got, i.e. the top half of the table. Anyway, if it's the same thing, they may consider only the first place is respectable.

I am managing DC United of the MLS, and at the end of my first season i didnt like the offers I was getting from overseas so I stuck with the team I had built. At the end of my first season, my scouting guy told me that my two oldest players, Earnie Stewart and Ezra Hendrickson had retired and at the beginning of the next season, my scouting guy told me that I had picked up two new young players.
The players that I picked up wear both 17. They had the exact same bodies and faces of the players they replaced, had the same ratings only scaled down about 15 points, ex. Stewart who had skill in the mid 70s was replaced by a guy named Jonny Buete(the CPU made up this name) and his skill was 68.

Has anyone had this happen to them?

I`m ok with Yeovil, i`m on second year with them, and i`m doing really good i think; Att: 68, Mid: 65, Def: 66, 22-3-1. (if i didn`t have lvl 4 on fitness i think i couldn`t do so good...)
And i have a question...the stadium remains the same all the career? Because i guess later, when i`ll build an all cup winning team i deserve a better/bigger one (H) ...

I tell ya this career mode is challenging... .. the AI is much tougher than in normal friendly/tournament games... I agree with some who say the games in career mode are boring because they do tend to have the same repetitive feel... although it is satisfying when you finally score and hold on for a win... Ithink you have to constantly change your formation and tactics moreso in this mode to break down the AI.

I was beginning to think that maybe this mode really is more structured toward hitting the "sim" button and only dropping in periodically to play situations. That might be the case until you get to manage the bigger clubs and have better players and resources to work with.

I started with Hearts and had the hardest time scoring and winning... I got sacked halfway through the season. Getting ready to start season 2 with Dynamo Dresden so this should be interesting.

Are you guys focusing your upgrade points on one area (like fitness) or spreading them out across all areas?

I also wonder if it is intentionally harder if you choose to start with Celtic, Rangers, Hearts etc. over the lowest teams.

No, that's strange that it keeps the same faces and bodies...very bizzare. I usually get rid of all players that are over 30 years of age.

Apart from the difference in class, Ezra Hendrickson looks like a very uncoordianted and paceless version of Patrick Vieira. It's funny to watch him play. It's the long legs that makes you think of Vieira, but when he doesn't play like him at all, it makes you laugh because he looks like a giraffe running around with a bunch of camels. He is 6'7" afterall.

Have you noticed that when you change your tactics, it changes where the players on the field play? For example, if you change from Neutral to Attacking, it will change your LM to CM and CM to LM, or it will change your strikers, say RF was on the right and LF was on the left, if you change your tactics, it will switch them. LF will be on the right and RF will be on the left. I'm sure it's a bug in the game and wasn't meant to work like that, but it does.

I distribute them all equally, unless I need more points for transfers, then I'll focus 75% of my points on the finance department.

It's probably easier because you have better talent to work with, but I'm sure that if you don't get the results, they'll fire you without hesitation.

You can find another job. (I haven't been sacked yet)

If you read ThE ReD FaN's post at the top of this page, he says that he got sacked 2 times, but found other jobs.

:f***: Yeah that is something that really pisses me off... FIFA has had that problem the last couple years... they've never fixed the fact that adjusting tactics rotates your players out of their assigned positions. It totally defeats the purpose of adjusting tactics on the fly! You have to pause and go sort out your squad every time. :kader:

The key is simply learning to play defense. I had a heck of a time with it. On world class if you make a mistake the AI makes you pay, simple as that. Check out my thread "WORLD CLASS: Defensive Tips Here." Stuff I've learnt now w/ regards to defense in career vs the AI.

I usually can keep the AI to a maximum of 2 goals, and average about 2 myself. What I mean by that is sometimes I win 2 - 1, 2 - 0, 1 - 0 etc and sometiems I lose 2 - 0, 2 - 1 etc etc. I don't get blown out by the AI anymore and most games are close.

I'm focusing most of the upgrade points on fitness. I'm only in season one, but have my fitness at about "60" I think. I've really started to notice this on the field now too. My players no longer seem as lethargic anymore during the game and can last most of the game if need be. As well, most of my players now consistently stay around the 40-60 fitness percentile after a game. It's rare one drops to the 20's or 30.

All over upgrade shave gone to STRIKERS, MID, and defense mainly...My strikers are 50 and MID 40 and defense 40.

Everything else has mostly has 10. I decided that if I'm coaching this team I'm in it for the long haul with the players I got. Best to help improve the current squad than waste points on scouting and finance for transfers during my 1st year as a manager.

Half-way through season one w/ Bristol Rovers 2nd Division FA.

Off the top of my head I've got a 6 - 7 - 3 record i think. Somewhere around there. Second place in the league. You'll also find your defenders improve their marking once your defense "coach" level his about 40 too.

I bought David Bentley from Norwich and I must say, he adds a new dimension to my current team. I tried to sell a few of my players and buy Clint Dempsey from New England, but the dumb AI has FOUR goalkeepers and only 18 outfield players, so you can't buy any players other than a goalkeeper from New England...the computer is so STUPID sometimes! Argh!

General Question:

Why in career...

My players are all about 70% fit..the starting 11.

Yet in my last match they all played completely lethargic and slow as molasses. Passes weren't crisp and complete. They continually passed to the other team. Some barely even made runs.

When I go to check their current status on the pitch..they are still 65% fit and their "stamina" meter is practically full. :f***:

It makes no sense? I've never had them play like this before :)

Is this just the AI telling my team, "Ok it's time you lose a game again." ????

Let's talk strategy in buying and selling players. My second season, I took a job at Bolton. And I'm tempted to sell off some of the older guys (I know, that's part of Bolton's charm, but still). However I know that you also recruit players at the end of the season. So I guess my question is, would it be smarter to sell off Jay-Jay at 32 and use those funds to buy a young guy like Carlos Alberto (about as high as I can go right now considering my managerial prestige) or to let Okocha retire this year? Will he be replaced by a 17 or 18 year old who is ranked the same, or a lesser player?

Do you play the same players every game, or do you play them every other game?

What I do is this: I have a first team, and 2nd team, when my first team is tired, I play my second team. My first team isn't neccessarily all of my best players, because my 2nd team would not fare well against every team, so I split up the good players to make both teams balanced.

Here's my itemized list of players and positions:

4 - ST
2 - LM
6 - CM
2 - RM
2 - LB
4 - CB
2 - RB
2 - GK

For me, balance is the key.

^ In 2004, you definitely needed to have two complete teams you could rotate in and out. I haven't felt the need for that yet in 2005, but we shall see.

BTW, I said screw it, sold Okocha and used the money to get Landon Donovan.
