Ramires has improved in the middle, but he should be on the wing, yeah. Without MC depth, that's out opf the question though. Bertrand is fine at LW, we're yet to lose a game with him there, although he doesn't offer much. Moses is the key player, and since Bertrand and Ramires' positional future seem to lie elsewhere, we should be looking at getting another winger like that. This summer we have a lot of players' contracts running out: Lampard, Turnbull, Hilario, Ferreira, Benayoun, Malouda, so I expect some signings or players being brought up to compensate. Don't think we have a classic winger like that in the club right now, so unless someone adapts their game or we buy another LB/DM and move Bertrand or Ramires to the wing, it's just Moses, although that's not that terrible.
The formation is fine when everyone is fit and when we can play this:
Ba
Hazard - Mata - Moses
Lampard - Mikel
Cole - Terry - Luiz - Azpi
Cech
The backline is functional with Bertrand, Cahill and Ivanovic as well, with the latter prbably a starter over someone up there anyway. But in midfield things go to shit. Mikel is the only player truly suited to a double-pivot, and he has spent most of his career as a lone holder anyway. The others can play there and do a good job, but it's not where they plat best. The attacking band only works when we select 2 out of 3 creative players and play them with a defensive winger, the best option right now being Moses.
When those starters aren't fit, we start playing people out of position in ways that don't function. We should be playing a 4-3-3, like this:
Ba
Mata - Hazard
Oscar - Ramires
Mikel
Cole - Terry - Luiz - Ivanovic
Cech
Romeu and Mikel would do well as holders, Lamps, Ramires and Oscar would all play better there than in a double-pivot and we could keep our 3 creators in the squad. We could rotate Lamps in to keep him fresh and still juggle Oscar and Moses on the wings on occasion. Mata would shine less, Torres will suck harder, but it's the best thing for the team right now. Considering that we're cutting our losses and hoping for 3rd, we need to adapt, and the 4-2-3-1, when we're missing so many players, isn't working.
