how do i change the age when the player will retire?

In the fifa.db, in the table_players there is a field retirementage, put it to 42 max, older will make your game crash at one point or another when calculating the fixtures, happens sometimes in your 6th career year and is bad for the nerves lol.

does it really?...i have not been able to play much up here at school, but i created Roby Baggio in the Db and have his retirement age set to 45 because that was the oldest possible....can you confirm that anything over 42 causes crashes?

The problem is not the retirement age per se, but having players that are older than the development process can cope with. It is difficult to be absolutely certain what age will cause the game to crash, but there is nobody in the supplied database with a retirement age older than 45, and that would make sense in terms of the number of entries in the development curve structure.

It did in Fifa06, with too much players retiring over 42, I guess one or two won't make a difference.
