Zakov, stop countering everything I say. It's annoying to have even the most basic points argued against. You know what a big team is, and most of the teamjs out there aren't, that includes Cluj and Aston Villa, despite your claims to the contrary. A bad result is not better than a bad one against Roma, Liverpool, etc, but we're thrashing most of these teams, so that doesn't concern me.

What concerns me is the fact that we still haven't managed to beat a big team. I'm gonna assume you have a problem with that term, so I'll explain it: teams who are at our level, or slightly worse. These include: ManU, Arsenal, Liverpool, Roma, Inter, Milan, Juve, Barcelona, R.Madrid, etc.

We need to get results against them to win anything, and that's wha I meant by mounting a challenge. I didn't mean only in the CL or in the group stages at all. If we can't defeat the big teams, we won't win anything. I'm hoping that we'll see an inspired performance against Arsenal, and like Pede said, get around the 'parking-the-bus' tactic.

Terrible shame about the kid. At least he didn't die from the actual lightning, I heard that's an extremely painful way to die. RIP.

Yeah it was shocking news really about the kid. Makes me think since I've got a kid nephew who's close to me.

I'm not countering everything you say, its because I feel what you're trying say is debatable, what's wrong with disagreeing with a fellow fan?

If they were a big team, why would they park the bus against us? Surely big teams are known because of their football. When we played against Utd they came out quicker and got the early goal, but decided to sit back and defend.
Liverpool followed suit and a few days later we're already considered as a team that can trash the Hull, Sunderland, Boro but can't seem to beat the bigger teams?

Sorry, but that is bollocks. The problem we have is our lack of variety in the style we play. During Jose's era, after the departure of Duff and the constant injuries of Robben, we only pumped up the long ball to Drogba and that was the main approach and it worked well against any team during that period.
But with only Anelka fully fit, we're getting predictable.

Against teams like Liverpool and Utd, we need a fully fit Drogba unsettle their bus parked defense or whatever.
So far, we've just faced two teams that are considered "big" and "in-form".
Roma was quite a suprise considering their dismal start to the season.
Maybe they were due a result like that.
I thought Villa were probably the only decent team that tried playing football against us for a whole 90 minutes. Instead of parking the bus, they came at us and we showed them with our passing and movement.

Against Arsenal, I'd like to see if this is the case. Since we know Arsenal always attack their opponents I believe we have a decent chance of beating them at their own game this time around.

And don't forget we're still to have Ballack, a fully fit Drogba, A.Cole, and most importantly, Essien back.

Here's what JT said after the match.

'We didn't start well and gave Roma a lift,' Terry insisted. 'We had plenty of possession but we didn't really go anywhere.

'Roma's line-up wasn't very attacking and things have been difficult for them at home with their fans and the pressure was on them and their manager.

'They hadn't won for two months and we gave them the perfect start by not getting out of first gear. It gave them the confidence they needed.'

'Four of us were there including Big Pete [Cech] and we didn't deal with the ball. We needed to stay with the runners. After that myself and Alex were pushing on and trying to come back and the team was all over the place.

'Roma were going to sit back and make it difficult and frustrate us which they did and they got a good second goal. After that we really needed to kick on and it opened up for them; they got their third.

'Even after that we showed no sign of the fight and determination that over the last few years has got us to where we've been.'

'Apologies to the fans, it was a great turnout and sorry for the result,' he added.

'We have been playing some really good football with brilliant movement of late but that has been collectively, as a team, and that is why we have been walking around teams and scoring goals.

'We didn't have any of that this time. We thought we could beat Roma as individuals and we could never do that.

'The result is maybe a kick up the backside that we needed. Maybe we need to realise we are not the best side that we thought we are.'

Can't argue with any of that. Well said JT.(Y)

It seems we're arguing on something, but we've both agreed that we need to be beating the bigger teams, which so far this season, we haven't.

Well, it depends on the situation also. If we can manage to continue as we are(prior to Roma) in the league, we can still afford to play against the big teams and not win, but still have a decent crack at the title.
Of course, it is satisfying beating the bigger teams, but if you give me a choice of winning the league or beating the likes of Arse, Utd, Pool I'd take the former.

In the Champions League, like it or not, we'll meet up with the big teams soon enough and I'm sure not many of those big teams will park the bus against us, they're too proud for that.

Great result against Blackburn. Awesome stuff under poor conditions.
I don't know about u lot, but I love games like these, I initially thought the ref was going to put this one to bed and send the teams back to the dugout but credit to him we got a great game of football in the 1st half.

The way the ball bobbles and skids around the turf, unpredictably is such a joy to watch. I'm sure not many teams can carve out as many chances as or played as well as we did in such poor conditions.

Anelka came up with the goods again. We should've gotten a penalty early in the game but the ref deemed it too theatrical?(I've seen worse than that, but Anelka was trying to get back up on his feet after the Robinson challenge).
1st goal was either pure luck or Anelka just managed to divert it in with his hip or knee or whatever. It went in and Blackburn's resistance was broken.
Malouda had a decent game, Lamps played a blinder, 2nd goal was his assist and typical Anelka finishing at his best.

Good response to Roma.
Cmon Chels!!

Yeah it was a good result alright. The weather was pretty bad all over the country on Sunday, and I'm amazed that some games actually went ahead at all. At times against Blackburn the ball would just not roll because of the soggy pitch. Glad it improved for the second half though, because it turned into a good game overall.

The ref made some terrible decisions against both sides. He was pretty poor I thought.

Lamps was hot as usual. Bridgey had another good game too. The defence was solid all the way across the back, and Cech was excellent when he needed to be. Although he had a quiet game overall, he made one particular save that was breathtaking.

Yup Malouda did very well, as did Anelka. That was probably the best all round game I have seen him play since he came to Chelsea. Maybe it has taken him longer than most to settle in, I dunno. We need him to continue to improve or at least maintain this run of form. Perhaps then, even I will have to admit that he can offer us something after all. We shall see.

EPL Top scorer = Anelka. Not bad at all.

I thought Paul Robinson had a fantastic game for Rovers. He stopped at least 4 more certain goals from us.

So 3 more points, and we go back on top.

Can't wait for our injured players to return. The squad are doing a fantastic job at the moment even with all those players missing. With the return of Joe, Ballack, Ricci, Drog, Ashley and Essien, we should be able to maintain our momentum and push on even harder.

I would like the League this year over and above everything else. I am begginning to feel that we have a great chance of getting it this season. Still a long way to go of course, but we are looking better than we ever have. Long may it continue.

Ouch, at least it wasn't Burnley who broke the record, Scolari actually managed to lose first, or else it would've been even worse...

Deja vu all over again. I didn't watch the whole game, but did we start Ferreira at centre-back alongside Alex? And Mineiro isn't suited playing against these hard-battling Championship sides, we couldn't keep the ball as well as we used to.

Well, hopefully Big Phil takes this as a lesson not to take Championship sides lightly.
Congratulations Burnley.
Hopefully after beating us, they don't go losing to another Championship or lower Division side.

cheers

Congrats Chelsea team for being on top of the table...

...and that is what really matters. Thanks mate, very civilised of you (Y)

I don't think there will be that many Chelsea fans out there who are that gutted that we are out of this cup. Of course it would be great to win everything going, but that is unrealistic, and obviously we have more important targets in our sights than this cup.

It was a good game though, and most of the Burnley fans were there to enjoy themselves. Unfortunately they bought with them a few hundred total scumbags who were starting fights outside the ground.

We had to pull four adult Burnly scum away from two 14 year old Chelsea fans, who were being kicked all along the concourse outside the turnstiles.

Inside the ground, we were constantly having to take cover from all the missiles that came our way from these ignorant wankers. One fan behind me was hit 2 inches below the eye by a dart FFS. I myself was hit by a coin which cut my head.

Missiles were flying around all night. Long before one of them hit Drog. He was stupid to throw it back into the crowd though, but thanks to the few hundred hostile idiots from Burnley, by the time that incident took place, the atmosphere inside the ground was one of anger and violence already.

I dont understand the mentality of these people. The EPL does not see this crap any more, and we haven't for years. Obviously we already know that is not the case in the lower leagues. The club should have been prepared for trouble, and they should have had police on duty for a game like this, instead of packing the ground with stewards who would not get involved and do not give a crap what goes on. Unless you are not sitting down of course, then the stewards are all over you threatening to eject you from the ground.

Going to a match like last nights should have been enjoyable for all, win or lose. I still feel really gutted about the bad behaviour last night. It was sickening, and to be honest makes me wonder whether I wanna go to any game again.

It was that upsetting, and the level of violence and hate overshadowed the game for most of us, and if getting knocked out means we don't have to mix with scumbags like these from the lower leagues again then thank God for that.

If they actually threw something at him, it serves them right, I hope he hit the guy who threw the coin at him.

If you don't mind pete, I took a portion of yer post and quoted it on another messageboard(Soccernet). Since they're knocking us for Drog's behaviour, I believe they should hear both sides of the story. Not that it would make much difference, since twats will always be twats, but just to shove it in their faces.

Bear in mind I'm not saying what Drog's did isn't wrong, but two wrongs don't make a right and the Burnley fans(the daft ones) deserves to be punished for initiating the incident, and for causing ruckus inside the stadium.

But right now, the uproar is about Drogba only, PFA "twat" Taylor is solely blaming Drogba for the incident without even mentioning the Burnley fans' role in this incident, thankfully, Burnley FC have said they'll be in full cooperation with us to investigate the behaviour of their fans.

Like I said Zakov, Drog was wrong to throw the coin back, so whatever punishment he recieves he will accept it. He has already said that much. He has apologised to all Burnley fans who were innocent parties in all of this too.

A proportion of Burnley fans have a very bad reputation for this sort of thing, and have continuously behaved badly for too long now. Their own club have never done anything about them and nor has the FA.

It's not just Burnley either. I have been to Watford and Luton and seen severe levels of violence between fans, and sickening levels of abuse aimed at opposition players.

This country has worked hard at eradicating football violence. The EPL is just about free of it now, although there is always a fear that fans of the newly promoted teams, will bring with them the crowd trouble that still plagues the lower leagues.

So far this season as far as I know, Hull fans and Stoke fans have been well behaved. Perhaps those clubs have actually made an effort to stamp out hooligan fans attending games I dunno, but one thing is for sure I never want to see those Burnley fans ever being allowed into our ground again. It was like going back 30 years when this kind of behaviour was common in every ground.

I'd completely ignore the scathing attacks on Drog though, because opinions like those are generally tainted by prejudice, either against Drog himself or even against Chelsea Football Club. That makes the hysteria being generated rather invalid in my opinion.

I remember Jamie Carragher going through this at Arsenal a few years back. Some goon threw a coin at him and he threw it back. Just like Drog was wrong so was Carragher too, but the important thing here is to find the twat who threw the coin in the first place. Nobody seems concerned about that issue at all. It's all about Drog, and that is wrong.

Then look at the newspapers who are the most vitriolic. Yeah, its the same ol' journo's that itr's always been. I've seen calls in a national newspaper for Drog to be banned for life. Can you believe that sh!t? It's rubbish that only the most feeble minded individual would be influenced by it.

The good Burnley fans on the night, of whom there were thousands were brilliant. They sang long and loud as we did, and the banter was enjoyable and light hearted. Those fans must be gutted that all this crap has vastly overshadowed what was a magnificent result for their club, thereby taking away from them a lot of the joy they should be feeling at knocking us out. I feel sorry for them, I really do. They were real fans.

Wednesday's incident came a month after a linesman was hit by an object thrown by a fan at an Aston Villa-Portsmouth game although reports said it may have been aimed at one of the Portsmouth management team.

A week later, Newcastle midfielder Joey Barton was showered with bottles and coins by Sunderland fans while warming up as a substitute.

Throwing stuff seems to be on the up at the moment within stadiums, and the FA and the police need to stamp down hard on it now, before it becomes a weekly occurance.

Drog has been charged by the FA with violent conduct. They will give him the maximum 3 game ban. Chelsea have fined him a weeks wages.

He will survive and so shall we. That will be the end of it and we can all get back to normal. (whatever that might be).

WBA this weekend.

Yeah, I've read about it too, didn't believe any of the headlines tbh, but just wanted to know what they were fookin on about.
The level of prejudice against Chelsea players is astounding, but its something we've already grown used to.

I think people are discerning the fact that Drogba apologized straight after the match, rather than wait on calls from the media or FA, then apologize.
Drog realized it himself what he did was wrong and would accept any punishment coming at him,and he's also fined a week's worth of wages by the club.

But with the media and haters it just doesn't end there, their going on about it like he sent some1 to the hospital with that coin.

I know its something we should ignore, but some of these hypocrites don't realize that they're not free from this kind of offense either. Cantona for Utd, Carra for Pool, they should be feeling like fools if they wanted to slag us off for this Drogba incident in the 1st place.
