I agree with that. We certainly don't
need Yossi by any means, and I think that would be the criteria for any players coming into the club. That being the case, I would be very surprised if he comes to the Bridge.
We have long passed the stage where we throw away huge sums of money on players, or go out and buy up every Tom, Dick and Harry who wants to join Chelsea, and I'm happy with that.
I'm also pleased because we seem to have reached a stage in our existence, where not only do we have a squad of quality and depth, but we have the added bonus of some very talented young players to choose from too. Young players who have worked their way through the youth system that Roman rebuilt for us, are now knocking on the door of the squad.
Five years ago we didn't have much of a youth system at all, but now, thanks to Roman's early awareness of the need for one, as well as his investment into it, and the much maligned (by some) efforts of Frank Arnesen and his team, the Academy is begginning to bear fruit. All this in five years.
That's good progress, and is why we no longer need to buy players that we don't actually need. All our young players lack is experience, they already posses the confidence and the skills, and under Carlo's charge I believe they will now gain that experience.
This of course will then allow the club to purchase only the player or players, that might actually make a difference. Players that we NEED, and not simply WANT.
The silly money is not there to spend any more either, so that should help the coach and the club to be sure the right choices are made.
OTHER NEWS:-
I saw David Sullivan (West Ham co-owner), on TV today, and he stated that he inquired at Chelsea, whether Joe cole would like to join West Ham. Sullivan say's that he got a phone call from Joe, telling him that he is "not even thinking about leaving Chelsea". I hope he says the same thing to every club that wants him.
Michael Essien hasn't made the World Cup squad for Ghana. There are fears that he might not be fit enough for the Chelsea team by the start of next season too. Lets wish him all the best and hope that's not the case.
