Cech
Paulo - Alex - Iva - Cole
Essien - Mikel - Ramires
Kalou - Drogs - Malou

4-0 at halftime, excellent performance. There IS a big gulf between the teams, but we keep trying to get forward and score, and they can't handle us. Could easily be 7-0 already. When called upon Cech has done his job, Alex and Iva have been solid, Ferreira has done well, Cole has been brilliant, simply brilliant, getting onto tough balls, creating chances, and cutting opposition attacks. Ramires has been better than last time, although I'm not exactly sure what he's supposed to do. He seems to be doing half of Essien's job, and half of Mikel's. Still, he's helped in defense, and sprayed some good balls to the wings, and has looked good, much more fluid than last time. Mikel and Essien have been breathtaking, simply awesome. Mikel is winning balls like a king and playing wicked passes to Cole, Drogs and the rest. There's little need for him to even recycle possession, but he's been instrumental in us getting forward quickly. Essien is simply everywhere, the man is a powerhouse and he never stops impressing me. I used to think he was just a physical player, but he's playing excellent passes, and he's just superb in pretty much everything he does.

Malou has not affected play as much as I know he can, but he has still managed to pop in with 2 goals. He's a bit crowded out, because Drogba is wandering into his space, Cole is bombing down the flank, and Essien is popping up from midfield, but still, he's not done anything wrong, and you can't expect everyone to be brilliant. Still, a passenger with 2 goals is something I can accept. Kalou, well, he's got a goal and an assist, and has shown good movement and his killer instinct to be at the right place at the right time, but he's not been as good as the rest. He's still selfish and keeps making bad decisions. When he plays in teammates and doesn't just think about himself, he's really good. I hope someone yells the selfish out of him, because he's got such potential. Drogba is Drogba, excellent. Got a a goal and an assist (maybe 2, but I think Iva gets the assist for the first goal). He's playing good passes, making good movement and just being dangerous in every sense.

So, we scored early from a Drogba corner prolonged by Ivanovic and Kalou finished it, then Drogba gave Malou an easy finish, then Drogba turned and scored (on a rebound) after a good move from Cole and Kalou passed it well to Malou for the 4th. I think we'll see Kakuta and Bruma come in, and it would be nice to see Gael show his stuff, he definitely can against these guys.

4-0 at full-time, we really took the foot off the pedal and it showed. Nowhere near the same energy, and Blackpool had a few chances for the first 20 minutes, although from there on it was us dominating again, but without the same desire to go forward and destroy. More selfishness from the players. Actually, the only guy who seemed willing to keep on providing was Drogs, great game from him. Bruma came on for Alex, Zhirkov for Ramires and Yossi for Mikel. I think Kakuta should've come on for Kalou, who was really disappointing towards the end. The subs really didn't do the match, because the rest of the team was content with the scoreline.

Overall, not a bad match, I suppose with 4-0 at halftime there's no need for the players to overexert themselves, so I can't complain, because the 1st half was really something. I thought there were 2-3 penalty shouts that didn't go our way, but again, nothing to complain about, I highly doubt our GD will work against us in the end. Drogba's the MoM for me.

Senior Squad
Great game from Essien and Drogba, Mikel and A.Cole were immense as well.

I thought apart from the goal, Kalou was very poor at the front. I agree he should've been replaced with Anelka or Kakuta.

Overall I'm a bit glad that we're still able to keep going and scoring goals as a team, particularly when we haven't done too well in the past when Lampsy missed out.

Credit to Blackpool and their fans, I thought they were quite good in spreading the ball around with short passes, looked very confident and threatening going forward as well.

It should really be Chélsia. I mean, you are where you are because of a Portuguese, are you not?

Not really, although what Mou did for us was incredible, it doesn't compare to what Roman has done.

And TECHNICALLY, it should be Chelstein, because Roman is jewish.

He also paid for everything: players, staff, facilities, academy...

We came second to the Invincibles with Ranieri, too, so it's not like he took a relegation candidate and gave it the title. Probably our best ever manager and huge part of our past and current success, but he's not the main man behind it all.

Turnbull
Paulo - Bruma - Terry - Aanholt
Yossi - Ramires - Zhirkov
Sturridge - Anelka - Kakuta

That was bad. I would like to commend the attitude of the players for getting back into the game, but that was so poor. After Patrick got himself a goal, we were dominating, then no one of Paulo, Yossi or Ramires closes Ferguson down and Patrick doesn't defend properly and then we collapsed and conceded again. Kalou and Yossi down with injuries and we played with 10 men for half an hour. A lot of mistakes from pretty much everyone, and all of the goals were hugely avoidable, very disappointing.

Turnbull:
Weak, weak performance. Made one good save, and it looked unintentional. Hilario is injured, but it doesn't matter, I'm not liking either of them. Turnbull simply isn't good enough and because of him we've gone from no goals at the Bridge and 2 conceded so far, to conceded 4 in one match at the Bridge. He was useless at the free-kick and could've saved the latter goals too.

Paulo: Wore the armband at the 2nd half, he was decent, but lost several balls and is partially at fault for 2 goals.

Terry: got subbed at halftime for Alex, got a run-out but did nothing noteworthy, although he didn't look his best.

Bruma: Buckled under the pressure, and didn't show much promise. He wasn't terrible, but again, at fault for at least one goal and contributed few positives.

Alex: The most solid in defense, and I'm glad, because he's really stepping up this year. He was the one who was supposed to track Ameobi in that last goal but I think that's more Turnbull's fault. Went forward when we were searching for a goal, and wasn't bad in defense. Not a good showing, but amongst the better ones today.

v.Aanholt: Definitely better going forward than in defense. Lost his man in the 1st goal and needed Zhirkov around to help, but was directly involved in 2 goals and looked good going forward, although in the 1st half when he surged forward more, he seemed too eager to get the ball in the middle, and didn't go to the byline enough, or even hold onto the ball. Very talented, but need more discipline.

Ramires: is. not. Mikel. Not even close. So why was he played in that role? Failed to impress, and looked more comfortable when McEachran came in and he got more liscence to go forward. It showed that we had no true holding mid because no one was playing the ball properly through the middle (although Toon pressed high up so there was little room). I'm still waiting for him to play up to his price tag. Not the worst today, but still hasn't done anything noteworthy in any of his matches. Needs to settle in, and maybe get played in a role he's good at. Not. DM. Please.

Zhirkov: One of the better guys out there. With 2 youngsters on the left, he took control of that side it's no coincidence that we stopped attacking well down there when he had to wander to the centre. Allowed Patrick to surge forward, and was pretty good, although as with everyone, not good enough.

Yossi: I hope he's alright, because he looked quite good out there. Lost his markers and played some good passes, although I think Ramires expected him to cover Ferguson, but he was too far away. Probably one of the best out there today (still, not at the expected level), especially because he looked like the only one able to breach Newcastle's high line.

Kakuta: Looked lively, showed some good glimpses of his ability, but found it hard to penetrate the defense, and started disappearing. Got subbed for Kalou at half-time, and Kalou wasn't on the field for even 10 minutes, so there's nothing to say about him. Hope he's ok, we need him, despite his inconsistencies, in the next few weeks.

Sturridge: Poor. Really, he's a worse version of Kalou. Lost balls, tried to be an individual and failed to do anything good all game. Not good enough, even for a youngster.

Anelka: Decent performance, scored 2 goals, one of them a very cold-blooded penalty. The fact that all 3 strikers liked to pick the ball up from midfield allowed Newcastle to play a high-line easily, and although he was our best forward by far, a standard CF to keep the CBs penned back would've been better. I think Borini instead of Sturridge would've been better. Looked dangerous, but far from his best match.

McEachran: This kid is the ****. When he came on we were chasing the game and shortly after we were down to 10 and you couldn't tell he was nervous at all. Best youngster out there and had he actually affected the scoreline somehow I would even give him MoM, but he didn't. Still, he looked brilliant. He took over the non-defensive duties of the Mikel role, and built the attack well. He never lost the ball, even won it a few times, was unbelievably calm, dribbling past challenges with ease and great composure. He reminded me of Xavi a bit: didn't lose the ball, held his own when challenged, and made good passes in the middle, although nothing quite as incisive in the final third, although with 10 men and everything he had against him, I'm very, very pleased with him. Give him more minutes, Carlo.

So, we're out of the Cup, which is only a shame because it means the youngsters have less matches to play in, other than that, I couldn't care less. I just care about the fact that we lost, and we should've done better. The team got rattled too easily and the midfield trio didn't click.

I hope Kalou and Yossi are fit for City, or as soon as possible. Lamps will probably miss the City match, but Terry should be fit.

Oh, and Bosingwa played in a reserve match today, 55 minutes.

Make America Great Again
I said it when he arrived, and I'll keep saying it until someone ******* gets it: Ramires is NOT a defensive midfielder. He is a carrillero, or a right midfielder. Chelsea play with carrilleros, so there is no excuse for playing him out of position.

VanTheMan

You'd better behave yourself this time!
you guys have at maximum average reserves and youngsters...
only Van.Aanholt , and Kakuta seem fine...
seriously since the initial days of romans spending spree I wonder how much attention has been paid to the academy players to be honest...cause its been ages we've seen a regular first team player from your reserves....
This is what money power can do...but now its been quite balanced for you guys in terms of spending...so better up to have youngsters developed more and put in the first team...
You guys dont wanna end up being Chelsea Football TEAM .. Chelsea Football CLub would sound better...

Nah, there's just a huge jump between the reserves and the first team squad, which is based around certain players doing certain tasks. Roman pays attention to the academy, and there's good talent there. The loss isn't the reserves' fault, it was a poor combination of players.

van Aanholt, Kakuta, Bruma, Clifford, Borini, Sturridge, McEachran and more are really talented players. This is the first year we've decided to really give the youngsters a chance, and it was a decent showing from some of them. There's a lot of ground to cover, but there's no need to worry.

About Ramires, I'm not sure what Carlo has in mind for him, but I think he's supposed to replace Essien, not Mikel. We'll have to see.

Only managed to watch like half an hour, and we looked poor. No invention. I didn't see City threaten much, if at all, but we didn't threaten either. Eastlands was always going to be tough, but it's just not good enough. Nothing to worry about, we're stil ahead of the pack, but we need to beat Arsenal next week.

Ramires was conspicuously poor today.

First real test of the season and Chelsea stacked it, I can't say I'm surprised tho with the amount of players currently not fit. Marseille & Arsenal are next should be interesting to see how Anchalotti approaches these games.
