You gotta have your share of luck to win the trophies guys, and today we had that ....PLUS we put the ball in the net and they did not ,so we won....end of story. And i dont think you gooners have got much to shout about either, you lot were piss poor today too, until Gilberto got Jenas sent off and Fredy dived again.Up to the old tricks again huh.AND the stupid ref fell for it again.....what a donkey. We're still gonna win it and thats all there is to it....get used to the idea.........at least we dont have to cheat to win.....unlike some teams i could mention.......no class Arse...... :ewan:

Wow. This game was either going to be like this, a (near) disaster, or a huge win. Guess finishing chances is going to have to be the stress of the next few practices.

I didnt see the game, but Crespo has to be given the lone role up front from now on. Didier tries, but he just doesnt have the footwork that Hernan assuredly has, and scoring one so early in the year, in such a pivotal moment can only increase his confidence.

Jose (Y)

And why were the only people to rip on Chelsea for being lucky Madridistas? Does anyone else see the irony there???

Anyway, there is no way Jose will let this happen again. Of that, i am completely confident. But all the credit in the world to Wigan: they stood up and fought in a game where people expected them to get rolled. They should do just fine this season.

What.
A.
Strike.

Thanks Callum, that was pure class, truly. Hernan must be soaring after that one. Winner, away, in a game that was truly a mental hurdle, or so it seemed, for the backbone of the team, Cech excluded, struggled.

And for all those that line up to take their shots at Drogba: That play is what Drogba's job is, or rather, should be. He pulled that ball down and headed it towards Crespo. Is it any wonder the guy managed to make his best play of the game when he was playing with a striker that can finish?

he headed it 2 times in a row, pretty amazing. Crespo should start I think, he had more chances in his 20 mins on the pitch? or maybe less than that actually. But drogba is exactly what u need in teh CL, because he is huge in the air, and in the CL not many teams let you dribble like robben/cole/duff want to do, so they will have to feed them into the middle, and crespo/drogba have a hell of a head on them. :(

and yeah crespo went mental after he scored.

probably why crespo and drogba will work is ebcause on the long balls, usually 2 defenders will go for the header, 1 on drogba and one behind to secure a mistake etc. so what will happen is drogba heads it down to crespo, crespo is either in on goal, or jsut has to beat 1 defender, which he can.

Essien should sign very soon for about 25m£. As a french spectator, I'm convinced he'll bring something very new and different to Chelsea. He's an excellent defender and he can also go forward and penetrate through the center of the defense or on the right side with pace and power, to create goals. This type of ability lacked to chelsea yesterday, who didn't managed to attack through the center.

Lyon have confirmed a deal has been struck with Chelsea for the sale of Ghanaian midfielder Michael Essien.

The Premiership champions have been pursuing the powerful African for the majority of the summer, but Lyon were adamant they would not lower their demand for upwards of €35 million.

The deal appeared to flounder earlier in the month, but the lines of communication were reopened recently and it emerged over the weekend that Chelsea had tabled a bid which met with approval from Lyon.

Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulas revealed earlier on Monday that the midfielder was set to move on this week and the French club have now confirmed a €38 million deal has been struck.

Chelsea have yet to make an official announcement, but Essien is expected to sign a five-year deal provided he passes a medical later on Monday.

Essien's displays for Lyon in the UEFA Champions League caught the eye of a clutch of clubs, and he has a huge reputation, but he will have to make an immediate impact if he is to force his way past Frank Lampard, Claude Makelele, Joe Cole and Tiago in the central midfield pecking order.

With the sign of Essien, Makelele is bounded to suck bench isnt it?

Muahahahahha now he´ll take what he deserves. But I dont think it bother him too much, as long as he has the money. :nape:

There's no way Makelele sits on the bench in favor of Essien that'll never happen for now he's got that position on lock and as for a starting XI with both Drogba and Crespo I don't think Mourinho is gonna do that he has played with one striker and it worked so why change it?

Essien should sit the bench, at least if Makalele's spot is in question.

I'd love for Drogba and Crespo to play together, because they're both in my fantasy team.

If Essien goes to Chelsea to sit on the bench, he's a bigger dumbass than he looks. I figure he will play next to lampard in midfield while makelele protects the back four, and Crespo is up front. Either way Joe Cole, Gudjohnsen, Tiago etc etc all these players will be on the bunch. Not a lot of happy campers.

People, he isnt being signed to replace Makalele. Im convinced Essien is coming with a view towards replacing Claude in 2-3 seasons, but only a handful of players in the world could send him to the bench with the form he was on last year. I was pretty sure Parker could have done the same thing quite easily, but now we shall never know.

Anyway, 26 million quid. Wow. I guess the two teams met in the middle, roughly on what he was worth, but this seems different from Drogba, as Didier was a UEFA cup flash in the pan, and Essien is younger, has undeniable talent, and will undoubtedly mature correctly under Jose's guidance.

But if I am Tiago or Joe Cole, I have to ponder seriously about any future I might have at Chelsea.

Tiago yes Joe Cole not so much because he can always step in and play on the wings however that doesn't mean that he will get much time there with the players Chelsea has at those positions (Robben, Duff, SRP) I feel for these guys.
