You don't have to worry about shirt sales either. I don't know about Europe, but the club has gotten way more popular in North America since Mr. Abramovich took over. When I was in Gr 8, I was the only one with a Chelsea shirt-(Gudjohnsen) but now I'm gonna be in 11 and I've seen Lampard and Duff shirts everywhere. A lot of Mutu shirts too.

Really? I have seen 2 personalized Chelsea shirts (outside of the game I went to, where I saw hundreds, literally) I think ever in suburban DC. One with Duffer, one with Lampard, and I saw one guy wearing the Champions tshirt this summer, but outside of Chelsea related functions, I havent seen virtually any.

was anyone else shocked that Carvalho and Robben didnt even make the bench on saturday? I would be mad if Riccy was iced out like that and wanted to leave, but I would be GUTTED if Robben wanted to do the same. I know Jose is laying down the law and all, but still...

chelsea played very intelligently, losing rarely the ball, and being very patient to create an opportunity. Against big teams like tottenham, our game is not yet very spectacular but i'm sure will evolve as players will progressively find their marks. We were very strong in defense and I hope this will work out in champions league too, which is surely our most important competition. :hump:
However I thought the red card for mido was somehow slightly severe. Maybe a yellow card would've been fairer.

once installed the program, click there to get english language =>

then go to : channels => football (which has a lot of EPL games on and works very well although commentating is in chinese  )

Mido should have gotten a yellow, that prick with a head, Terry, was throwing ******* elbows, Essien brought down Davids in the box and they didn't worse than a yellow. I don't think it was done to hurt Del Horno, they showed Drogba AND Del Horno trying to console Mido while he was leaving the pitch.

Well, add that to the Koncheskey red from week 2, and the Jenas red from week one to the list of calls that will probably get recended

Your dear friend "Damien Duff" bought one too :(

FIFA said something to the FA that they shouldn't make red cards yellow after the game. Just a bunch of old fashioned pricks.

Robben's comments didn't deserve him being left out of the squad.

Robben's comments completely deserve him to be left out, Mourinho will be tough on his own players who criticise his system. Just because he's a good player it doesn't mean he should be in the squad no matter what.

Robben and Rikki were carrying slight injuries according to Jose and were rested. It had nothing to do with comments made by Ricci or alledged comments made by Arjen.

If he gets a 'Robben 16' on the back will that turn that :( into a :) ?

I was almost positive that Robben came out right after these supposed comments surfaced and claimed he never said anything of the sort. What happened with all that?

Team Captain
you are right Balla......Arjen denied that any such comments were made by him and nobody in the media could actually put a name to the reporter to whom the comments were supposed to have been given. So it looks as if it was just more newspaper crap, trying to create unrest within the club following Carvalhos comments.Jose said he was expecting the media circus to continue with their stupid attempts to unsettle the players and so create news for themselves. He also said that he had told the players that on no account should they believe anything that they read in the papers concerning Chelsea,as they would be the first to know about anything concerning the club and the media would be the last to be informed.
I think this media s.h.i.t stirring will continue though. Its funny how some ppl read about the alledged comments but fail to read anything about the denial.

As he says at the beginning......we care very little about outsiders opinions,as do all clubs i suppose, but if football was purely about entertaining the media, then i guess we should maybe put in a couple of trapeze artists at half time.Maybe some singers and dancers performing songs from Hollywood musicals.Or why not the entire squad doing the can can on the halfway line every time we score?........
Nah man, all you have to do is have the squad break out in "Jose and the Amazing Technicolor Overcoat." :shades:

I kid, but anyways, the red card was very harsh. It was definitely a deserved yellow, but a red was way too severe. The refs this season have been poor on many occasions.

This season?.....man its every season that the refs AND the linesmen are poor. This is a contact sport and as long as the powers that be try to turn football into a non contact sport, these things are gonna happen.Whats wrong with a tackle from behind as long as you get the ball first.Even a fair shoulder charge is punished now. There are times when a violent tackle with intent to cause harm must be punished, but all the incidents lately should be seen as part of the game. The refs are in a difficult position because the rules that they are governed by are just so unclear.A bad tackle to one ref is an OK tackle to another. No wonder mistakes are being made.In my opinion blatent cheating like diving for a penalty,or rolling around after being fouled, should be an instant red card and not something that happens in the heat of the game like a competitive challenge.I have played football all my life, and been on the end of some violent tackles, but i have never felt the need to roll around like i've been shot. Not even when i had a leg broken. These are grown men and they act like pussies in an attempt to get an opposing player booked or sent off.A bad case of overacting should get a red,and persistant divers should get a long ban.Excuse me if i drifted off the subject here.............. :ewan:

I play for my high school's football team and it's fairly clean but some guys like me who actually watch football throw in a lot of cheap elbows, kicks, grabs, tacles. I've never been given even a yellow because I always get away with it, even though I'm a RB so it's hard to get away with that kind of stuff. As long as you don't make it obvious like Mido did, it's okay. I can't remember hurting anyone though, the most they ever got was probably a bruise. Football is a contact sport and booking tackles all the time takes the flow out of the game.

Maybe the media making up all this stuff is good for Chelsea, it gives the other teams a false sense of security.

That is what I love most about the English game. Dont get me wrong, I hate scummers like Matteo, Dickov, etc, but I would rather the refs just stand aside and let the players play like grown men. A game is terrible to watch when its stopped every 15 seconds for something or other, but this is why I get so annoyed when one of our boys like Joe Cole or Robben takes a big spill and rolls around. Granted, countless others have been doing it long before they came along, but I still think its cheap, no matter what. However, since its become so accepted, I can still excuse it, because if you dont go down with some contact, its as if they arent willing to do everything to help their team win. I dunno, though, its a fine line to walk.

Anyway, its a long time till sunderland comes to the bridge, so lets discuss the next bit of scuttlebutt. Spurs are after Carlton Cole:
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=341012&cc=5901
Spurs to test Chelsea's resolve
Chelsea's resolve to keep hold of fourth-choice striker Carlton Cole is set to be tested by a £2million bid from Tottenham as Martin Jol seeks more attacking strength.

The departure of Freddie Kanoute means Spurs are left with just one centre-forward - Mido, who is facing a ban after his weekend dismissal against Chelsea - to partner either of their smaller strikers, Jermain Defoe and Robbie Keane.

It remains to be seen whether Spurs' bid will be enough to persuade Chelsea to sell Cole, with Jose Mourinho having seen the forward, who was on loan last season at Aston Villa, as valuable back-up for Didier Drogba, Hernan Crespo and Eidur Gudjohnsen.

However, Cole has not yet featured in the first-team this season and may prefer a move elsewhere, especially if he can remain in London.

Ironically, Mido's red card has given added urgency to Tottenham's pursuit of the 21-year-old forward, who was originally targeted by the club in the talks which took place over compensation for director of football Frank Arnesen.

Its not really fair to keep Cole when a. He has potential that can be tapped and enhanced elsewhere b. Jose clearly doesnt rate him, and he hasnt even seen the bench this year. Im a bit mixed on this, as its spurs, and Cole has been with Chelsea for a number of years. But all that promise he had under Ranieri seems to have vanished. It speaks volumes when people rated him one of the worst players Villa had, and he couldnt even make a dent in that lineup which wasnt very forward rich. If Pompey tabled a bid, and Chelsea said 'no' then I have to question that decision, because I think he wouldve had ample opportunities there.

Anyway, this could open up new possibilities for bringing in a forward. Id heard something about them sending Keane to Newcastle as a makeweight for Jenas, and Keane is a young guy who would be a good third/fourth choice option, but by the sound of that article, theyd wanna keep him. Jose has made it abundantly clear that he doesnt rate Owen, so I guess that dream is dead, but with all these rumors about Owen, Keane, Kuyt, and now Cisse, I have a feeling that a major reshuffling of the cards will be taking place soon....

Reactions anyone?

I dont really see what spurs want with him anyway. I know they want another Mido-sized targetman, but I dont think Cole would even fetch the bench on that team.

Wouldve been nice to develop "one of our own" into a young star, but Im thinking keeping Cole and selling Forssell was another transfer blunder which this team seem to be comitting with regularity recently.....in terms of selling players, I mean. The signings this year have been brilliant

Speaking of ex players, congratulations to Jiri Jarosik Park for his first goal in England on behalf of Brum at the weekend. Youre still not coming back, though :ewan:

here's a nice few lines spoken by Edgar Davids after the Spurs game.Very refreshing to hear and puts to shame all the whinging from the Arsenal manager and players.....

"It's very difficult to play Chelsea with 11 men, so you can imagine how hard it is with 10," he said.

"They are very effective, have very good players and they play as a team. They are very disciplined and that is a compliment to them."

In many ways, it is more Serie A than Premiership, but Davids concluded: "In the end, what do you want? They don't attack that much but they know when to do it.

"They are winning so Mourinho has the right on his side. The only thing you can do is compliment them."

Davids has class....unlike a few other North London players i could mention......... :funny:

Aww come on pede. It's class because he puckers up and tastes a nice mouthfull of Chelsea FC ass? Will he have any less class if he says: "Well Chelsea are effective but I dont agree with how they play" ? You're not being fair to me man pede. :fluffy:
