I wonder if Arsene Wenger has given any thoughts to playing both wingbacks in midfield and using Pires upfront with Henry, especially as both Chelsea wingers are on form.

Therefore a team like this, just for the away match.

---------------------Henry--------------------------
-------------------Pires-----------------------------
Cole--------Edu-----------Vieira-------------Lauren
Clichy-------Cygan-------Campbell-----------Toure.

Don't know what you guys think, but I think that team would be solid defensively, and Arsenal have to take this game as a typical away CL game tactically and keep the opposition from scoring.

He'd never make such a drastic, untried change before such a big game.

Barring injuries, I'd expect:

--------------------Lehmann---------------------
-Lauren------Campbell-----Toure------Cole-
-Ljungberg---Gilberto--Vieira--------Pires--
-----------------Henry-Bergkamp--------------

Edu for Gilberto and Reyes for Bergkamp for the second leg.

I agree, but I don't think many people think Ljungberg can cope with Duff, and Jesper has burned Cole on many occasions.

What's his plan to counteract that?

Wenger may not be personally arrogant, but his tactics are, he tends to believe that teams should be concerned about Arsenal's attack rather than vice versa.

i think we'll draw or lose this leg and hit them back on the 2nd leg.
but i want to be optimistic.

2-0 to us.

Thats pretty dumb considering that chelsea havent beaten arsenal for ages, should we play a 9 - 1 formation just to deal with jesper who has actually played on the left side for chelsea in recent games against arsenal so what games was he burning cole?. Duff is obviously so good that no one can cope with him, so who do we put in then, and btw isnt it lauren a defender that'll be dealing with him mostly? Just have another pop at arsenal for having a pop sake, and move on.

You can disagree without the insults dude. I am not fighting you.
Make your points, it's not Oxford vs Cambridge.

Gronkjaer never crosses though. According to Rob he might be the only winger who doesn't cross.

Of course with Duff back it makes it very much more interesting, but I have to disagree with you about Freddie - he's the best out of the front four when it comes to defence and commitment. And he's got the pace to keep up with Duff. Lauren doesn't.

I've noticed during the season that Arsenal's biggest weakness is Jens Lehmann. He has a tendancy to punch and rush out for corners and crosses, etc. Bolton took advantage of this, thus feeding plenty of crosses into the Arsenal box. Most teams have noticed this weakness but haven't been very lucky in exploiting it.

Basically Chelsea need to get as many crosses into the box as possible.

The Arsenal forwards are very reliant on threw balls and neat passes from the mid-field. If Chelsea can stop the Arsenal mid-field from playing then i think they have a decent chance of winning.

Gronkjaer, oh man.

He is a left winger I swear. :crazyboy:

Only time he has ever crossed is on his left foot playing on the left. No joke.

Claudio Ranieri has confirmed that Marco Ambrosio will continue in goal for Chelsea in the Champions League quarter-final first leg clash with Arsenal.

The Italian goalkeeper, who arrived at Stamford Bridge from Chievo last summer, has played in the Blues' last two Premiership matches and retains his place against the Gunners.

Compatriot Carlo Cudicini (broken hand) and Scottish stopper Neil Sullivan (bruised leg) are both injured.

Dutch striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is ruled out with a hamstring injury.

Meanwhile Arsenal striker Dennis Bergkamp is poised to make his first start in a Champions League away game for 13 months at Stamford Bridge.

Bergkamp, who does not fly, is expected to partner Thierry Henry up front, with Jose Reyes on the bench against Chelsea.

Otherwise, manager Arsene Wenger is still without Sylvain Wiltord and Ray Parlour, while Jeremie Aliadiere is not yet quite back in contention after a thigh injury, but Martin Keown is back in the squad.

Chelsea (from): Ambrosio, Melchiot, Terry, Gallas, Desailly, Huth, Bridge, Babayaro, Lampard, Makelele, Parker, Geremi, Cole, Gronkjaer, Duff, Crespo, Gudjohnsen, Mutu, Sullivan.

Arsenal (from): Lehmann, Stack, Lauren, Toure, Campbell, Cygan, Keown, Cole, Clichy, Vieira, Gilberto Silva, Edu, Pires, Ljungberg, Reyes, Bentley, Henry, Bergkamp, Kanu.

Wenger's plea to referee

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has pleaded with referee Manuel Enrique Mejuto Gonzalez not to ruin their Champions League game against Chelsea.

Wenger thinks the Spaniard will over-react to the physical nature of the contest and book several players.

"For people to enjoy watching, it must be fluent as that is what they are used to in England," said Wenger.

"Should 40,000 fans and 22 players have to adapt to the referee or the reverse? But it may take him a while to adapt."

He added: "It will be a Premiership-style game but with an invited referee.

"He may be surprised by some of the challenges in the game that are normal in the Premiership."

This is the CL, Arsene. Think you can change the officals mindset to call it like an EPL game? :brow: :p
