Pretty boring game but tactically very well played by Mourinho. The second leg will be better (unless Chelsea score early)

If anything you want Chelsea to score early on in the second leg. It would result in Liverpool attacking gung-ho style and could lead to a cracking contest.
However I sincerely hope that it's Liverpool who make the final...

It was a good game, and it wasn't that boring either, even though only one goal was scored.

Liverpool could have got a better result if Agger, Arbeloa and Zenden weren't so bad. Zended didn't do anything, and yet the ball kept going to the left flank. Arbeloa was invisible, and when you did see him, it was a zoom in after a sh*tty mistake or something. Also, Agger got rapped by Drogba.
Liverpool need to improve on these positions because they were clearly the weakest IMO.

It will be very hard for Pool because they mustn't concede.

I agree. Almost all of his crosses were blocked and his dribbling attempts failed.

Not surprised. Benitez and Mourinho playing attacking style in such a game? It is boring for a neutral like me, but i guess it was an intense nail-bitter for Chelsea and Liverpool fans. Mind you, how can you play high tempo football, when you can hear a pin-drop during a game?

i think we played very well considering we where without 3 major players (robben, essien , ballack) good game, grate refereeing the ref allowed the game to flow and did not blow on easy fouls, a bit surprised that Liverpool v Chelsea only produced the one yellow card. good game one step closer to Athens.

Hear a pin drop????? The racket was deafening at the Bridge tonight mate. Maybe your broadcaster had the crowd sounds turned way down huh? Sorry man but that statement is just bollocks.......Anyway

Well I think Jose's tactics were spot on tonight. Attack from the kick off and keep attacking until we score. We did that and dominated the first half easily. The second half was obviously defend what we have but continue to catch them with a counter attack. We came very close on numerous occasions to scoring more goals.

Fantastic goal by Joe Cole, masterfully made by Drogba who was supplied a sublime pass by Carvalho. Frank came very close twice but was denied on both occasions by 2 great saves by Reina. Drog had 2 headers that were close too.

I thought that all departments did their job well tonight. The defence was a wall, the midfield didn't allow a lot to get through and the forwards attacked enough to restict Liverpool committing too many men forward. Perfect scenario in my opinion.

The fact that Liverpool couldn't score a vital way goal was just as important as Chelsea scoring. The onus is on the visiting team to score that crucial away goal, and if they don't score it, that is in itself a good achievement. We went one better. We scored too.

It must be obvious to all by now that Chelsea are very comfortable just soaking up whatever is thrown at them. Falling back and soaking up the pressure is something that Chelsea do very well and to great effect. Some people out there think that its the other team that push us back. They still don't realise that to fall back, defend and contain and then counter is a tactic that Chelsea use in almost every game they play.

I heard a commentator on the radio say that "Liverpool dominated the second half". No they did not. Another commentator who has obviously not seen Chelsea play much this season I suspect. Almost every time Liverpool attempted to penetrate, they were allowed to advance only so far and then either the Chelsea midfielders or defenders fought for possession. When they did manage a shot on goal, Cech made a great save to deny Gerrard.

Tonight the team worked well as a unit and with Essien back for the second leg at Anfield, we are in pole position for the Final. They HAVE to score but they also have to stop us scoring. I'm looking forward to it.

It would result in Chelsea defending the box the whole game which would pretty much end the game because Chelsea know how to kill a game as well as anybody.

I was implying at Chelsea fans in general, not today. I didn't watch today's game. They are known for being one of the quietest crowds in the country, hence the extreme exaggeration.

Not sure about the point your are trying to make. But this season United had one of the loudest crowds in the country. You can't deny it, high ticket prices at Stamford Bridge filter out the fans that would go to support their team, instead of just watch them play. Anyways, this has gone on longer than i wanted. So if anybody here thinking i'm wrong, then fine.

Its a bit off topic but anyway......in defence of Help

The reason the crowds at Chelsea have SEEMED to be a little quiet to some people is this. One of the last stupid things that Ken Bates did before he was chucked out of Stamford Bridge for good, was to split the chelsea fans up and thinly spread us all over the stadium. There was a time when most of our noise came from the Shed. Since I was a kid I've stood and sat in the Shed to watch my team and make a lot of noise. When Bates took the Shed away from the fans and gave it to the away supporters, we lost something very special. Its like Man U fans not being allowed in the Stretford End or Liverpool fans banned from the Kop.

It just shouldn't happen, but Batesy in all his great wisdom, did just that. The shed, due to its construction , had great acoustics and also funnelled the sound into the stadium mostly from that one source. When we were no longer in the Shed, we found that the rest of the stands did not have this advantage. Added to that, was the fact that it became very hard to co-ordinate mass singing due to the dispersion of the Chelsea fans.

A few months ago we(the fans forum), met with the big knobs at Chelsea, (a fairly regular thing by the way), to discuss matters such as ticket prices amongst other things. It was brought up in the meeting by the club, that the club thought that the ground needed to be more noisy for home games. We explained to the new owners that the Shed had always been and should be again, for the home fans. We explained the problems we had encountered at matches, how it was impossible to get the fans who wanted to sing co-ordinated, as we were spread all over the ground. We told them that the fans wanted the Shed back. The club complied and we now have the Shed back.

Since then, due to many fans having season tickets for other parts of the ground, we have only been able to slowly gather again under the Shed. We are getting back to how it used to be thank God, but the benefit will not be felt until the new season starts and the Shed Boys are all together again under the Shed.

You know as well as I do that fans dont simply all start singing a song at exactly the same time. A little group amongst the crowd start it off and immediately the rest of the fans join in right? Thats when it gets noisy. A loud concerted blast of sound eminating from one stand and infecting all the other stands. Up to now, we have been unable to provide that but believe me, it is improving with each home game. Next season we will be back to normal.

I know this went on a bit but there are other circumstances that contribute to a lack of atmosphere at a ground, than the "prawn sandwich brigade" or the ground being full up with "new" fans who will not sing.

Pede, would you agree that all-seating has stiffled the atmosphere at Stamford Bridge?

These famous old stands should be terraced, simple as.

I think it comes more down to ticket pricing then seating.

Damn they have a long way to go to entertain the public Chelsea. I mean we didnt even have several first team players yet our match was way more entertaining and edge of your seat.
