College Soccer - Anyone?

Actually, club soccer is more competative IMO. It's really simple. Every high school has a JV and a Varsity team. JV is really not competative at all for serious soccer players. Varsity is the highest level at any high school. Club soccer is a whole different thing. Club soccer is outside of school. It is broken up into divisions. from lowest to highest it goes........class III, class II, class I. and the highest is Premier League. after every season , the top team gets promoted into the higher division and so ur team moves up the divisions in that fashion. hope i was clear in the explanation.

But I am not talking about high school. In some colleges at least there is 3 levels : Varsity, Club and Intramural. So all are sponsored by the college.

Yeah, but varsity in college is the main thing. That's where you get recognition, serious training and scholarships sometimes. NCAA Divisions 1 & 2 offer scholarships, as well as NAIA but Division 3 doesn't. That's something to look at. Also, if you ask me there is quite a difference between Division 2 and 3. Of course, a D 3 team can beat a D 2 team and sometimes even a D 1, but for the most part there is a difference in play.

Nah, they don't change.

I think it's like that because of the student population, to keep it balanced.

You don't want Cal playing Northern Montana A&M or something.

I think on the simplest level it has to do with scholarships. I'm pretty sure that all D3 schools have agreed on prinicple to not offer athletic scholarships, because they see themselves as solely academic institutions, where sports should not be a major reason for admission.

Actually, there are a couple of exceptions. Two that I remember are Colorado College in hockey and Johns Hopkins in lacrosse. I think they are both Division 3 in all other sports but Division 1 in those, so that they can offer scholarships, to continue to compete with other good schools at those sports.

Also, D1 hoops has 320+ plus schools in it, but D1 football has only 117, so the divisions aren't set in stone.

Actually, I think it might be 118 in D1-A now. I think Troy moved up this year. But Temple is on its way down, I think. So it's probably gonna stay at 117. They're so bad. (H)

I play Varsity and Premier club soccer here in Canada. I'm finding the Varsity to be of higher level, and definitely something you gotta hit the gym for if you wanna make the difference on the field.

I currently play for Siena College which is a Division 1 program. College soccer is so much more fast paced then high school Varsity soccer and there is alot less room for mistakes. As for D3 soccer, Siena is a lower ranked D1 school and we scrimmaged St. Lawrence last season. St. Lawrence is one of the best D3 soccer schools in the nation and we easily beat them 3-1. So I guess D3 and D1 is really a big jump.

What about the keepers. Im a soph in High School and when the field players are doing there 120's 60's we just take shots at each other and do cone drills nothing that would makes us collapse. How good do the keepers have to be and do the do same amount of fittness training as the field.
