Also, you can't ignore the piracy issues. It's pretty obvious Konami has implemented this system to fight piracy. I think they've done the right thing. Plus, last year we were complaining about the lack of online support, now they've given some (it seems) and we're still complaining...
Maybe they weren't able to get a lan-system to work without helping pirate copies. I don't think that's as easy as some people are making it out to be.
Personally, I downloaded a pirate copy yesterday and I'm not sure anymore whether I'm going to buy it. I've been pretty dissappointed so far. Maybe I would change my mind if online play has been improved a lot.
