Well, well...not long to go until the game!

My confidence in Portugal has grown a little more in the past day or two since I read Figo is back to 100% and getting back to his true form in the training sessions. Also from what I've been reading in the past 24 hrs is that Portugal will be taking on an ultra offensive strategy with Joao Pinto playing right behind Pauleta, and apparently Sergio Conceicao is on FIRE!! :D

One thing that worries me a little is that there is still a tiny bit of doubt as to who will play in net for Portugal, Ricardo was our goalie throughout most of qualifying but apparently Vitor Baia has begun to play well again....personally I think we should stick with Ricardo, but we'll see...

A lot of people aren't giving the USA enough respect, I think they're a physically strong team with a lot to prove and will definatly give us (Portugal) a lot of Problems...:(

My Prediction....I'm going to say a hard fought 2-0 win for Portugal, in a game with plenty of scorring opportunities for both teams! I can see this being a game where Portugal will just storm the USA's net (apparently that's coach Oliveira's plan!), but the Americans getting great chances on the counter-attack.


I think it'll be an entertaining one.. Don't miss it!!!:D

Oh, I wont miss it. I just dont know who i'd like more to win afer todays Polands match. OK, let say i'll cheer Portugal cause i cant imagine US playing nice football. Just hope u'll perform better than we did in this game.

A win versus Portugal would be just magnificent, but I'd settle for a draw. I have the upmost respect for Portugal and expect that they are going to come out with all of their guns blazing. :) But our boys are going to put up a mean fight, so watch out!! I'm very much looking forward to this game:) Best of luck to both teams!

Oh I know, the Americans can't be taken lightly...I think if we can score first and early then we should be ok, but if it drags on 0-0 or we go down 0-1, then we might have some serious trouble on our hands...that's just how Portugal is sometimes :rolleyes:

I just hope Pauleta can produce his scorring touch that he displayed in the French league this season..

Also.....I'm willing to bet that everytime Figo has the ball he's going to get completly mugged and will probably have 2 American players on his arse at all times! :eek: Considering he's just come back from injury and probably not at the top of his game, this could mean Figo coughing up a lot of balls..uh oh :eek: Then again, if he can pass it off, this will mean a lot more room for Joao Pinto.....aarghh, will the damn game start already!!! I can't wait anymore :-puke:

I too think that Ricardo should be the GK(and i'm a Porto fan) cause even if Baía made a good match against China, Ricardo played the qualifying games, so he deserves the spot, and Baía can be pretty bad sometimes, but will see...

I have a feeling that the game won't be a walk in the park, cause USA has some good young players and they are a very experienced team.
I'm glad to see that we(Portugal) will play with only one DH.This migth mean a very powerful attack force; if João Pinto and Sérgio Conceição play like they did during the season, and if Rui Costa confirms his good form(played very well against China) then i think we will win, kind of easily. But if we suffer a goal, or don't score in the "first" 60 mins USA may well susprise us.

About Figo...i don't know, my guess is that is good physically but he won't at is best in this game :( .

May the best team wins!

Hey ps2! I live in Waterloo, Canada but my family is from Faro, Algarve! ;)

Portugal's starting line up has been announced, exept for the GK position which is still a bit of a mystery, but all rumours indicate that it WILL be Vitor Baia! :eek:

Here it is, no surprises other than the GK...

So Baía will start...Oliveira always liked him! I hope he doesn't screw up.

I'm really glad we will play with only one DH, i mean look at that 5(!) attacking players(and Petit usually goes upfield too)!

I CAN'T WAIT!!!! Still ten hours to go! I'm so nervous!

Hehe, yeah, I guess having 3 locations on where you're from would be confusing! :D The Tahiti part is where I want to be someday, God willing! ;)

Anyhow, about the game...yeah I'm nervous too, but seeing that lineup makes me a little more relaxed, that's some serious firepower, and no doubt Nuno Gomes will enter the game at one point! I hope Brad Friedel ate his Wheaties this morning! :D

I feel kind of bad for Ricardo losing his place on the team even though he's always been a good solid keeper for Portugal, but Oliveira's the boss...we'll see how this all turns out in a little while from now..:)

As much as I would like to see the americans lose, cuz I dont like em as a team, i would ideally prefer a tie, better for us if they tie. I predict 1-1 or 3-0 in Prtugals favour

Only 5 hours to go until kick-off! I was planning on getting a few hours sleep before the game but I doubt I'll be able too! I'm too busy trying to image what will happen during the game and possible outcomes....

I'd better get some coffee...
