He is 21, my guess is that he is a "Volksdeutscher" / Ethnic German from either some former Soviet country or as you said Romania.

Horatiu, Ailton came in Bundesliga 11 years ago from Brazil with Werder Bremen and he was great in the 2003/2004 season scoring 28 goals and leading Bremen to the title, after leaving Werder he's finished, he was in Turkey, then in Austria, now he's 36 old and he's back in Germany.......good striker.

They actually played in the Bundesliga in the 80's and early 90's as Bayer Uerdingen.
