West Bromwich Albion have dismissed reports that they have signed Macedonian international midfielder Artim Sakiri.

The 29-year-old has been a long-time transfer target of manager Gary Megson but, according to Albion, a deal has yet to be finalised despite reports an agreement has been reached subject to the player securing an EC work permit.

'It's true he's someone we've been following but to say he's signed is pure speculation,' said a spokesman for the relegated club.

Sakiri, who plays for Bulgarian side CSKA Sofia, first came to prominence when he scored directly from a corner kick in the 2-2 draw with England in last October's Euro 2004 qualifier at St Mary's Stadium, Southampton.

Wow... I was really hoping we would keep him at CSKA for our Champions League campaign but it looks like he really made an impression in the Turkey-Macedonia match. Quality player, sad to see him go. :(
