Report: Spurs after Convey again
Aris Ohanessian, USSOCCERUK.COM
After his failed transfer to England in 2003, D.C. United midfielder Bobby Convey is set to repeat his past footsteps with renewed interest coming from the Premiership's Tottenham Hotspur.
The White Hart Lane club is again interested in the versatile left-sided 21 year-old, who can play both in defense and midfield.
While getting a work permit could still be an obstacle for Convey to play in the Premiership, his play has reportedly garnered interest from Tottenham again - despite the team's turnover in its managerial and front office staff. Major League Soccer and Tottenham had agreed to a transfer last summer, but in August 2003 the Department of Employment denied Convey on appeal a work permit to play in England.
On the surface, it seems like an easier road for Convey to be granted a work permit to play. Part of the requirements states that a player must play in 75 percent of a country's "A" competitive matches, and Convey reaches that goal by playing in seven of the United States' nine such matches in the last two calendar years.
There is a real absence of left-sided players currently on the books at Tottenham. With Christian Ziege gone back to Germany, there is no true left back in the side (Mauricio Taricco is the de facto starter), and Rohan Ricketts is the only real option on the left side of midfield. Tottenham has made a similar offer to MLS according to a report in Wednesday's Washington Post.

I think this move will be great for Convey. He should get his work permit this time and he should be given a chance to play with Spurs having no left side midfielders for the most part. I hope he does well and becomes a more consistent player.
