good news for Mexico (Y)... though Mexican officials are in Venezuela trying to convince Venezuela to switch with Mexico, so Mexico can host the Copa America Venezuela is supposed to host, and have Venezuela host the one in 2010.

That's a bad idea in my opinion. Not Mexico hosting it, but having it every 3 years. It would be better to have it every 4 years like the Euro Cup (though not necessarily on the same year). Having it so often and on WC Qualifying years is what's ruining the Copa America.

As for Mexico hosting it, they might as well. It doesn't look like they're going to stop participating, so we might as well take advantage of their stadia. I rather Venezuela host it first though.

Venezuela if i'm not mistaken is the only SA country who wasn't host a copa america by itself, why Mexico don't let us accomplish our dream and then made if they want to, the best copa america ever

I sorta agree with what Max Bretos (FSW Report Personality) said on the Copa. It should be every 4 years after the Euros and possibly at its end have a Super CONMEBOL/UEFA Cup between the winners of the 2 competitions:rockman:

I would also like to see the US participating and some other teams so that more money could flow into the competition and also a more traditional amount of 16 teams would partcipate so that the 2 top teams of 4 groups of 4 would make the Quarters.

Anywayz this is the 16 I'd like to see for the next Copa.

Brazil
Argentina
Chile
Paraguay
Uruguay
Venezuela
Colombia
Peru
Bolivia
Ecuador
USA
Mexico
Costa Rica
Guatemala
Honduras
Canada

This would truly make it the Copa America :rockman:

And since I've got time in my hands I'd like to see these groups...

Group A
Brazil
Canada
Peru
Chile

Group B
USA
Uruguay
Honduras
Bolivia

Group C
Mexico
Paraguay
Ecuador
Costa Rica

Group D
Argentina
Colombia
Venezuela
Guatemala

What do you guys think?

I've heard similar things before... I've even said some myself. Since 1995 with every tournament less people have turned up, less money has been made and fewer nations have taken the tournament seriously. The Copa America is in obvious need of restructuring.

To start with it should be every 4 years starting after Venezuela 2007 to avoid WCQ.

The participants/groups, IMO, should be like this: the 10 Nations from CONMEBOL + the 6 Nations that reached the final WC Qualifying round in CONCACAF.

With this system, using the WCQ 2002 final standing as reference, the CONCACAF Participants would be: Costa Rica, Mexico, USA, Honduras, Jamaica and T&T.

Seeded: Argentina and Brazil (obvious reasons), No.1 from CONCACAF WCQ (Costa Rica) and Hosts (Venezuela).

In the event that a Nation does not wish to participate for whatever reasons (USA... ), a CONCACAF nation would be invited in their place (pretty much like we do now).
