MExico has a very difficult group:

Brazil.- No cooment
Ecuador.- HAs a powerfull team, the are at the top 3 or 4 in SA, but Mexico plays very good againts them.
Chile.- Could be a surpirse, i dont really know about their actual form

Mexico should be at leas at the semis, our i would be very mad at Hugo

Apparently we're sending an U-23 team to the Pan Am games this summer. The team will consist primarily of college players and MLS guys who aren't getting playing time for their clubs. In other words, guys who won't make either the Gold Cup or Copa America rosters and are too old to make the U-20 World Cup roster.

That's crazy though, in June and July we're going to have four teams in action:

National team at Gold Cup
National team at Copa America
U-23's at Pan American games
U-20's at U-20 World Cup

Lots of US footy on tv (Y)

Do you know if FSC has bought the rights for the U-20 WC again? What about Gold Cup and Copa America?

I guess chile looks like the "weakest" team on group B, but i think we can be the suprise in our group. For those who dont know much about chile's actual form, i will try to explain it a bit .
Today we have a group of young and very tallented players capable of leading chile to the next round.
I guess the most important players right now are Matias Fernandez (latest best player of america) and humberto suazo (world's top scorer on international matches on 2006). But there are others with experience like Claudio Maldonado (6 years playing in brazil first in sao paulo, then in cruzeiro and currently in santos) and jorge vargas (5 years playing in Italy's serie A, now in austria's szalsburg). The other players are young and with a great future ahead, like jorge valdivia (very, very talented), manuel iturra, mark gonzalez, waldo ponce (on june beeing transfered to espanyol), claudio bravo, luis jimenez and the U-20 alexis sanchez and arturo vidal.
The thing i dont like is our coach, Nelson Acosta, is kinda defensive-minded. But we dont have lots of alternatives for coaching so we just have to trust him.

the last matches we had were
2006
against new zeland as locals (5-0)
vs Rep of Ireland as visitors (1-0)
vs Ivory Coast in France (1-1)
vs Sweden as visitors (1-1)
vs Colombia as locals (1-2)
vs peru as locals (3-2)
rematch against peru as visitors (1-0)
vs paraguay as locals (3-2)

2007
against venezuela as visitors (1-0)

for these year we have two friendlies with costa rica and other friendlies against austria and switzerland.

here is a possible starting line up
3-4-1-2

Claudio Bravo GK (Real Sociedad-SPA)

Waldo Ponce- Sweeper (Universidad de Chile)
Jorge Vargas- Stopper (Red Bull Szalsburg - AUT)
Pablo Contreras- Stopper (Celta - SPA)

Luis Pedro Figueroa- Right Wing Midfielder (Arsenal Sarandí - ARG)
Claudio Maldonado - center midfielder (Santos-BRA)
Manuel Iturra(Universidad de Chile)/Arturo Sanhueza (Colo Colo) - center Midfielder
Mark Gonzalez - Left Wing Midfielder (Liverpool-ENG)

Jorge Valdivia - Attacking Midfielder (Palmeiras - BRA)
Matias Fernandez - Attacking Midfielder/Center Forward (Villarreal - SPA)

Humberto Suazo - Striker (Colo Colo)

other players

Miguel Pinto - GK (Universidad de Chile)
Ricardo Rojas - Defender (America-MEX)
Arturo Vidal - Defender (Colo Colo)
Rafael Olarra - Defender (Maccabi Haifa - ISR)
Gonzalo Fierro - Right Wing Midfielder (Colo Colo)
Luis Jimenez - Attacking Midfielder (Lazio - ITA)
Rodrigo Tello - Left wing back/midfielder (Sporting - POR)
Reinaldo Navia- Striker(Atlas-MEX)
Alexis Sanchez - Wing Forward (Udinses - ITA; now in loan on colo colo)
Hugo Droguett-Left Wing Midfielder (Tecos - MEX)

David Pizarro (Roma) quit the national team after the last world cup qualifiers due to the lack of responsability and professionalship on some players and the chilean football federation. But there is a chance that he could change his mind.

Marcelo Salas also quit the national team to make space for younger players.

The ESPN family of networks have the rights to all FIFA tournaments until the 2014 World Cup, with the exception of the World Club Cup. The US matches at the U-20 World Cup are expected to air on ESPN2, while most of the other matches will be on ESPNU. If you want to watch en español, Telefutura and Galavisión will be your destination.

As for the Gold Cup and Copa América, the Univisión family of networks will air both tournaments, with the latter being aired exclusively by said family of networks.

I don't know about the US but I remember reading something a couple of months back about CONCACAF telling the FMF that if they didn't bring their best team to the Gold Cup there would be trouble. They feel that the Gold Cup should be a higher priority for them than the Copa America. I don't know if they've backed off that stance or not since then but we'll see how it works out when it gets closer to the tournaments.

I like the Mexico's seriousness in the Gold Cup. But, I'm pretty sure Copa America is one big tournament for South American national teams, USA, & Mexico as well.

Hugo is gong to call 28 or 29 players for both tournaments, i think the "europenas" are not going to play Gold Cup: Marquez, Osorio,Pardo, Salcido, Castillo. I would like to see Zinha back at the NT , he could be a good alternative at the Gold Cup and Blanco at Copa America.

Uruguay dissapointed to play in such a ridiculous group? Oh please man. They should be happy because if they ended in any of the other 2 groups, they wouldnt qualify, plain and simple.

haha don't be upset, Ruben...

pasion must be the SG member most similar to the NT he supports... beat the brazilians here and there, but disappointing most of the time

In the last 4 copa americas uruguay finished in the top 4, and in the last one, they were in the hardest group and still qualified, also it was during a time of crisis (lost 3-0 against venezuela and 3-1 to peru in uruguay and 5-0 against colombia in colombia in the world cup qualifiers), i just dont see how you can come to that conclusion.

I dont think ZInha is gonna play anymore at the NT, Hugo said he is not going to call Leandro, So there are less possibilities for Zinha
