CPU's Defence on PES4

Has anyone noticed how the CPU's defence sometimes seems to build up like the great wall of China? You cant shoot from outside the box as it will deflect like a pinball and you cant get into the area very well because there are too many defenders? it doesnt matter how many players you have making runs the defence never gets drawn away and seems to be camped on the edge of the penalty area! making it very hard to score! now that is annoying and was in PES3 as well :(

In real football you see the same, so there is nothing wrong with it. It's realistic. It's up to you to beat their defense. It's a challenge. :)

ok fair enough but u normally only see it if a team is really under pressure they pack their penalty area full, not most of the time during a match though! why does every shot outside of the area deflect off of someone? that is annoying and something that rarely happens in the real game.

Try doin fake shots before you shoot then you will be able to shoot at the goal. Or turn 180 degrees and shoot.

Those two option works for me.

There are many ways to score, you just have to find them, just like real football, and that`s why we love this game.my suggestion to you: PRACTICE the one/two pass, play on the wings and then pass by the floor , be quick on countrattacks, use some strategy, and be patient,etc..... and you be able to score again, and again.

Yes I agree with Pacheco.
I would advice you to do this:
Go to the training ground (free training) and you have 11 vs 1 defender (the Keeper).
Now go to formation settings and put 8 opponents in (leave the strikers out).
You know how to put defenders in? No? I tell you :)
In the formation screen you press START and you now control the other team. Select 'participation' and now you can select the defenders by pressing X on them. Choose 8 players and go back to the training ground.
Now you can play 11 vs 8 and now I have some tips how to create chances:
If you make 1-2's, do it with side backs and side midfielders, because it's easier to do down the wings than through the center.
Try to cross balls after that 1-2 by pressing DOUBLE O. This type of cross is faster and easier to score with headers.
If you have no chance to do the 1-2 along the wing, try to pass the bal around to disrupt the defence. At that time you may reach a striker who can turn away from his defender and shoot at goal.
Hope it helps :)

EDIT: Just forgot to say that you need to switch off side ON (in general settings in training-mode) Else you get no good AI from the CPU.
Also, use the radar frequently!

I totally agree with you....

And this is why I NEVER BELIVE PEOPLE CLAIMING THAT THEY WIN 7-0 ON LEVEL 5 OR 6...because physically this is just not possible (but I would be interested if someboyd could show me a video that proves the opposite;) ) - If I play at level 4 or 5 I am always happy if I get one single goal, and if I get two it´s a miracle;) ...but most of the time I play on level 3 because there I score practically in all the games, but mostly only 1-2-3 goals in every game.

I think it´s quite annoying that the CPU´s defenders hardly ever make any mistakes (or at least they only make small mistakes, never big mistakes...)...in real football even the best defences sometimes make mistakes...even Juventus or Milan sometimes conceed stupid goals....

And it is ridiculous that while during the second half my players tend to get very tired and do not run fast anymore, the CPU´s players still continue to run as in the first half!:kader:

Nope. In pes3 the AI defense was weak to compare with pes4.
Annoying thing is a pushing form CPU defender when my player make a passing.

Buddy, it is because u are not very good at the game. I started playing Winning eleven 6/PES2 two years ago when it came to north america and i only played on three star for a week. After that i began playing 5 stars and never played a less difficult level ever since. And when i got my hand on winning eleven 8, i didnt even bother to play 5 stars, i just started playing 6 stars. My point is, if u are very good it will be easy for u to beat the CPU. If you know how to use the right analog button very well and u study your opponent every move very well, u can easily split the CPU defense and score goals easily.

i prefer to describe it like mourinho said -- "bus tactics" (H)

why don't you just play counter attack against them?

Couldnt agree more. IMO, PES4 is a hell of a lot harder than PES3. On PES4, I could beat ANY cpu team, on 5 stars, with England, or my Master League team. Now, im playing ML on 3 STARS, and barely staying at the top of league. And I cant be that bad at the game, having won 9 out of my 12 matches I've played online, against good opponents.

My advice for all with scoring problems is that you play at 5 stars, even if you know you're going to lose most of the matches because you're not good enough. Just start on 5 stars, it takes some loooooong time to win anything, even score one single goal, but you'll understand this game (soccer, not just PES) a lot better and learn how to beat the defence a lot quicker, imho. Thats how i did. Now 3 stars are no problem for me, 5 stars is still hard but at least i don't panic and i do know what to do when i come near goal.

Maybe you are right..

I am quite good at defending...I conceed very few goals....but my problem is that I score very few goals myself too. I do not think I am that bad...because I know pretty much al the feints...but I have to admit that I almost never use the right analog stick because I find it to clumsy...to complicated: the manual pass to me is very difficult and I miss it nine times out of ten...and also the curle-dribbling á la Zidane seems to complicated: if I try it ten times I succeed maybe 3-4 times....and so I rather prefer not to do it...

I am now playing a season on four stars with Juventus. Here are my results (as you can se, I conceed very few goals, but only two times I have scored more than one goal in a match!):

JUVENTUS-BRESCIA 1-1
SIENA-JUVENTUS 0-0
SAMPDORIA-JUVENTUS 3-1
JUVENTUS-CHIEVO 1-0
FIORENTINA-JUVENTUS 0-1
JUVENTUS-REGGINA 1-0
BOLOGNA-JUVENTUS 0-0
MESSINA-JUVENTUS 0-2
JUVENTUS-PARMA 1-0
MILAN-JUVENTUS 2-0
CAGLIARI-JUVENTUS 0-2

I have also played to games now at six stars: the first game I lost 0-1 with Lazio against Bayern - and the second time I won 1-0 with Romania against Brazil...but honestly in that game I was a bit lucky, scoring on my first chance and my goalkeeper had a couple of miracle saves....

Afterall the results are decent, but I have a very very hard time creating chances. When I get the chances I am quite effective, because I do not miss a lot of them. But the problem is that breaking down the defences seems extremely hard to me. I very often try a long range shot to open their defence, but since they always have a 8-9 men wall in front of their own goal, very often the shots tend to deflect on the defenders....; I also try a lot of crosses, but also here nine times out of ten I cannot score....because the marking is incrediblely tight....

But I would be happy to get some good advices to how I can improve my bad offensive game...:p ;)

Make 1-2 and shoot or make ur players run forward...try to dribble some defenders!
