Crossing model:assisted or normal?

Could anyone explain the difference between assisted and normal crossing model (in the settings). I've played the game with both settings and I can't really tell the difference between the two. My guess is that assisted makes passing easier, but i'm not really sure. Also, which method do you use and why?
