Cup

Okay, it's 2:30 in the morning here now, and I'm tired. But I just thought of something, and here it goes:

In my opinion, the cups in various nations has lost much of it's prestige. Look at the FA Cup for example. It doesn't have the same status as it did, say, 20 years ago. Then, winning the Cup was almost as big as winning the league, but now it doesn't have much prestige anymore.

I could go on and on about how much the cup means, why it's lost it's status etc.

But to make it short and simple (and I could be out of bounds here): how about putting most of the money from winning the league into the cup? The league won't lose it's prestige anyway (considering Champions League qualifying etc.)

As I said, I could be lost on this subject, there may be more to this than what I know.

true about the cups, but I think since the leagues are the most prestigious, that is where they will keep the money, sadly.

Though the FA cup is still prestigious, not as it used to be, but a lot compared with other cups in other countries.

I think the worst case is Italy, their clubs don't give a sh*t to the Cup, they always play with second choice players, sometimes even in the final!

the Italian Cup never had prestige. 2 legs cups suck IMO. the essence of the national cups is only one leg. in Portugal the cup had great prestige too but is losing the importance. it only has emotion in the last stages and in the final at National Stadium which is a saturday afternoon party around the stadium woods.

The big clubs may not be interested even if they put more money to the cup coz winning the league looks important and those clubs dont need money badly.

It may work if the prize is really that good... it's hard to think of other solutions, isnt it?

If the prize of the cups were for a Champions League spot instead of a UEFA Cup spot, I bet these clubs will play their full-strength sides.
