Curling shots

I can curl the ball great during corners and FKs but during regular play I cannot curl the ball even the slightest when taking shots on goal, even with becks...WTF? (w/ pc demo)


have a dual analog pad. I have tried w/ the analog and digital...curling only seems to work on corners and FKs

as an aside, its OT but its a Q anyway, what do the coloured bars mean under the player names in game?

I remember hearing it somewhere the way to go about it while you press the shoot button was holding on the the L2 or R2 button to swinging it left or righ respectively. Maybe it was L1 and R2 not too sure..

I tried shooting with L1,L2,R1,R2 varitons but it didnt seem to do any curl that I could see.(all shots with becks, 98 curl rating)

To curl on corners, atleast the way it works for me, you must use the 0 button to charge your shot while holding the direction you want to curl (left,right) you can also use up and down along with curl to give the ball dip or lob qualities also but it wont be as great a curl as just going for a curl only.

The colored bars indicate the players mindset. change with L2+R1 or R2. There are 6 levels of attitude. The current team attitude is displayed underneath the players names. Green is the most defensive attitude and red is the most attacking attitude. The colours in between them indicate varying degrees of attack / defense. Yellow in the middle is neutral. You start the game with a neutral attitude. You can change this setting to manual in the tactics setup screen (attack attitude I believe it is headed under). R1 makes the attitude more atacking and R2 makes it more defensive.

Help me please I can't curl at all with normal shots...does it work for everyone else? Thanks

Oh, the controller I have is the Logitech Dual Action, it's almost a copy of the PS2 controller.

Uh, dudes, you can't curl shots. It's all automatic. You curl freekciks and corners by holding the desired direction while the power bar goes up but shots are dependent on player stats, power used and the positioning and stance of the player taking the shot.

There are people who swear they can curl it by pressing a bizarre combination of buttons but it isn't true.

depends on body position, balance, stats etc. I've curled many just using the d-pad like aftertouch, keep holding the direction you want it to curve in. Doesn't always work, but you'll see them surve on the slower, placed shots, Especially from the side (don't do something dumb like try to give right curl to a right footed instep shot, give it the proper curve using d-pad)

Hmmm, Atleast you both say it depends on position, power, and stats but one of you is saying it's all automatic, the other says you can after touch them w/ the d-pad (which doesent seem to work in my experiance)

So which is it? All I know is nothing I try works and I have never seen a curled shot happen automaticly either.
Probly have to e-mail Konami on this if they take questions like this.

They are both right. There is curl added to a shot especially a slow shot on the ground hit with the side of the foot just as there is curl added to a pass you would make...you didn't add it but the way the player struck the ball, that's where you get that curl. There is also curl you can add (more so on powerful shots) that add to the natural curl the ball was going to have. That is, a right footed player can take a shot with the inside of his right foot...the ball will curl left, if you shoot and hold the stick in the left direction after the shot the ball with curl even further left. If you hold right on that kind of shot, you will have no affect on the player because that is physically impossible (a player hitting the ball with the inside of their right foot for the ball to curl right).

Thanks for clearing that up the_man I went in and tried curling it left with beckam (right footed) about 30 times with all sorts of kicks, hard, soft , medium, and still not even a tiny curl...I can tell by looking at the ball, it's always a dead ball or has a bit of back spin, a curling shot the ball would have some sideways spin but it never works =( don't know what i'm doing wrong.

Although its not noticeable the ball does curl sometimes and it is all dependant on the players position, balance etc. Although you failed to mention from corners and freekicks that holding r1 will put a lower trajectory on the ball while holding r2 will float it in high. So from 34m i scored a freekick using the r1 and holding diagonally up to the left. I hate beckam but when that freekick went in i couldnt help but love the man. By the way 34m is my record

omg.........u have to shoot when ure player i sfacing a certain angle and watch ure replay scarefully there is curl....lol

omg, no there isint...not on my shots, I've seen curling shots on show us miracle that have some real curl on them, none of my shots on goal are even close the curl on those videos. Only FKs and corners.

There is curl...but it's automated. End of story.

Milo it is not automated, you can actually curl a bit more. But don´t wait for some major bends, exept from Beckham.

Also I scored plenty of goals in norma play by adding a bit of curve onlong shots, they are not very noticeable on the wide camera but when you look from behind in the replay ypou will notice.

It is not possible to add curve! Honestly, mate!

The best way to highlight this is to take a shot and try to curl it. Now take a similar shot and try NOT to curl it. No difference. The direction you press decides where in the goal your shot is directed.

Take a freekick and notice how that curls. THAT is controlled curve. The shots don't curl like that.

This argument is very old and very tiresome now. I think it's best if we all agree to disagree.

I going to have to agree with Milo. No matter what I do to set up the shot, player I use, or crazy button combo I press I cannot add curve. There is some very small natural curve but no real curving shots like you see from beckham types. I think Konami needs to work on a new system for next year.
