i think its the 3400+ and down and is it rlly worth gettin 1 of them over the p4 cos its slower isnt it

Depends what you use it for . . .

3000+ = £109.09
3200+ = £139.96
3400+ = £194.88
3500+ = £256.61
3700+ = £347.51
(inc. vat)

I still think the 3200+ -> 3400+ is too much really given that the 3200+ has an actual speed of 2.2ghz/FSB 200mhz and the 3400+ is 2.4ghz/200mhz FSB.

Use that £50-£60 to get an extra 256mb of RAM or something, you can (and I'm going to) overclock the 3200+ to the performance (and beyond) of a 3400+ too. :)

does a 3500+ hav the equivalent spped of a p4 3.5 ghz processor? cos this kid i know sed it is but i ent sure

I'm getting an Athlon 64 3200+ @ 2.2ghz and I'm hoping to overclock it to about 3+ghz.

And that kid is true, 3500+ = 3.5ghz approximately. That's why Athlon called it that!

My Pentium 3 866mhz kicks my mum's 1ghz Athlon, although my P3 has more RAM and a better graphics card.

For those interested . . . I overclocked my P3 from 866mhz (133mhz FSB x 6.5) to 1110mhz. (148mhz FSB x 7.5) I'm hoping my new Athlon can get up to a 13+ multiplier.

My project is on hold at the min as we aren't fantastically well off, we have 3 babies (and me) in the house, just Dad working and I go to a school which we have to pay for. But we're collecting parts as cash comes available. :)

Depends what processor you have . . . I just altered BIOS settings myself. The cooling situation is a bit desperate though - I have all the case off and lots of fans around my computer!:D Currently at 59oC tho, and I'm fairly idle :(

I've read some Athlon 64's overclock really well and others don't, I hope I get a good one! I'm also planning to buy a watercooling system, I've never had one before and they look class. (in addition to doing a good job of cooling!) (H)

Out of interest who is "that kid?" :S

I'm hoping to get a water cooling for Christmas, and hope to have the whole PC built by Jan/Fen 2005. (my bday is Feb 17th so it could be finished with birthday presents!) The whole thing will cost €1500. (H)

dude. ghz in Athlon doesnt really matter. they proved that high ghz doesnt necessarily is the best.

champdave, im directing this at you because you seem to be impressed with high ghz a lot. (H) ;)

champdave

SG Sheffield Authority
Certainly am - but high ghz on an Athlon means something, unlike a P4 (H)

It also means that the 3200+ chip would (hopefully) run at the performance level of a 3500+ or higher ;)

im gettin a raidmax scorpio 668 case. i hope to get a athlon 64 3400+ or higher, 1gb of ram, bout 200gb hard drive, ati radeon 9800 pro, etc

I'm getting GeForce 6800GT (Y)

Got a pic of your case? I'm thinking of a Lian-Li, as cost really does make a difference with cases. Ideally I'd look at the case (physically, not over the internet) before I buy it tho.

I plan to get an Athlon 64 3200+ @ 2.2ghz and overclock it to speeds of a 3500/however high I can push it. Water cooling hopefully will be installed too (H)

Yeah sure, I'll make you a free computer.

You can't link images from your hard drive either

I don't know what case I want, I'd rather buy it from a component shop from round here to check it's not flimsy and measure it up and make sure that everything will fit. Preferably black with a side window though (H)
