Custom formations and line-ups

Ok, so I spent quite a while now editing line-ups, captains, kick takers and formations for natl teams and clubs on WE9 for my PS2.

But yet when I start a league or cup it automatically changes the formation to another one and the CPU chooses what players it wants to use. For the most part it changes the formation to a 5-3-1-1 formation. Its pissing me off cuz of all the time I spent editing it and it does this, and for the most part the CPU chooses crappy players and leaves some of the better ones on the bench.

Is there an option somewhere to change it from doing this or something?

You can save your formation data in the Stock menu. But I think it will only save your edited formation, not your lineups & kicktakers etc. I've tried this myself and it would only save the formation. Unless I'm doing something wrong too...
