Defending help please?

i dont know why but my defending sucks.i try to keep my back four in line as not to bring them out to far, i dont keep running like mad as to overshoot the player,but when im on attack most players i come up against online there defence seems to stick to me so well they tackle well i press a to no avail i press and hold a and 8/10 i give a free kick what am i donig wrong. i play as liverpool any suggestions and help would be greatly appreciated:boohoo:

Press and hold A is the correct way to tackle but only do it when you are facing the player. Alternatively press and hold B to bring in a second player to tackle. Lastly press and hold the left small shoulder button make the defence step up to catch the opposition offside.

The B button for second defender works great out in the middle of the pitch, but once you try to employ it nearer your own goal it doesn't function properly.

Realistically a defender called in for help would not come right over and foul the player immediately OR worse, run the wrong direction.

Instead the defender would come over in order to pressure the ball into a safer area. Defense, as a player, is all about playing the angles. Few futbol games handle this correctly, Fifa and UEFA are horrible at it.

What I do is try to move the players one by one into correct spots by switching constantly, it's a chore.

Also, there is nothing you can do about the CPU exploiting the AI by running with the ball diagonally (confuses your CPU defenders) or the magical dribbling runs put on by CPU players with under 60 dribbling skill.
