defensive tactics

There aren't any tips for defending when you get at world class level, so I won't ask you to spend your time giving tips...practice must be the best teacher for that also, but it seems I'm not too good of a student, as I always get at least a goal in world class difficoulty. Still I win because I always make more than 1 goal, so what I wanted to know is:
Do you all have this problem in defending at world class level and feel as frustrated as me when the computer makes you loose the clean sheet either at the beginning of the 2nd half or at the end of the match?Do you all actually have the same feeling of greater achievement when keeping the clean sheet rather than winning big?

Goldfish, I find that on world class that I defend will over the whole match but I tend to have one lapse where the CPU beats my defender and scores - usually just before half time. Secondly, I do feel good when I keep clean sheets and win 1-0, 2-0 coz it is so rare for me not to have a momentary lapse of concentration and concede a goal.:)

Yes practice is the key but there are a few things to bear in mind.

The best way to defend is to anticipate.
Always try to be position your players within the paths of where the computer will pass the ball.

Master the use of the sliding tackle. with the right timing, you can you it to get the ball in midst of a path by the computer (when no player is around the ball)
the sliding tackle can also be effective at blocking shots
sometimes, you can try to use the sliding tackle when the computer is running towards another player of your own. So when the player you haev selected makes the tackle, the ball would be collected by your player that had been standing there waiting for the ball. kind of like a "double-team" tactic.

Let's say a player is running towards you, slowly run back, and when the ball leaves the computer player a little make your tackle. back tread then tackle.

The computer's attacking power increases right after you score, (to make the game more intense, however it is so predictable) so be ready to defend after the kickoff. As long as you block off the attacking paths the computer would be forced to shoot at small angles even if you can't suuccessfuly take the ball away from them.

Select the right players and run in paths to block balls and pick up balls. remember what you are facing is a computer, and sooner or later after practice you'll find the computer too predictable.

And what scores do you achieve?
All what you've said is right, and I actually master it all, but still, somehow (cheating) the computer cracks me evry time. Typically in unpredictable situations, like you expect a cross and cover the receiving player, and the the computer blasts in a shot, which he had tried 7 other times the same game, but my keeper had saved each time, and suddenly at the 87th minute it goes in!!! Or long range crackers! Happens sometimes. Most frequent is the cross with a header. Though I anticipate the pc, he ever succeeds the last second!Damn it's unfair!

Yep. I got pretty frustrated by this "catch-up AI", too. In fact it's the reason I stopped playing after season 2 (with West Brom). By the end of season 1 (won league by 2 points). I'd progressed to World Class level and then every game in season 2 (no kidding) finished with at least 6 goals, with never more than 2 goals between the teams. Most popular result was 6-5 to me. Match with the least goals was 3-3 vs Arsenal.

So predictable. I'd score, he'd score a minute later. Then he'd score, then I'd score a minute later. If by some chance I managed to get 5-1 or 4-0 up, the computer would go into a crazy fit and nothing I could do would get me the ball. My defenders would run the exact opposite direction to the one I wanted. My midfielders would inexplicably give the ball away every time. He'd score from forty yards out with his back to goal. Ten minutes later it'd be 5-4 or 4-3 again.

Just for kicks I started up an all computer demo match: Real Madrid vs New England Revolution. Final Score? Real 7-5 Revolution. Please.

It's almost like World Class level should be renamed "disable-the-player-controls-at-certain-critical-moments" level. I know it adds to the challenge, but when you look at the table at the end of season and you're 16 points in front with 190 goals to the second team's 65, it's a bit of a bore.

WE6 is sitting there now waiting for the seal to be broken, when I get some more free time...
