Di Biagio attacks Inter coach Cuper
MILAN, Oct 14 (Reuters) - Former Italy midfielder Luigi Di Biagio says he was 'betrayed' by Inter Milan coach Hector Cuper and has criticised the way he was forced out of the club.
Di Biagio left Inter for Brescia in the close-season and will face his old team in Serie A on Saturday.
'Cuper betrayed me,' Di Biagio told the daily Gazzetta dello Sport on Tuesday. 'It seems you never really know a person because I had always believed that he was sincere and loyal.
'But he betrayed me despite what I believe I always gave to him personally and not only to Inter.'
Di Biagio, a popular player with Inter fans, said that last season he frequently agreed to play in games when he was not fully fit.
'For him I went out on the field even at the cost of making a fool of myself. How many times, the day before a game, did he ask me to make the sacrifice of playing even when I shouldn't have?
'So many times. And I always made myself available especially in the final months (of the season) when I knew very well that I wasn't able to be the real Di Biagio,' he added.
The former Roma midfielder said he was told that Cuper wanted him out when he received a phone call from the coach just before Inter began their pre-season training and was told not to attend the team's camp.
Di Biagio said Cuper had told him in a phone call that there was no place for him in the side for the new season but that he had insisted he was ready to battle for a spot.
'I said 'do you want to tell me that there isn't even a one in billion chance of playing' and he replied: 'Even if 20 midfielders were to be injured you would never play'.'
Argentine coach Cuper is under pressure after Inter's recent 3-1 derby loss to AC Milan, their third match in Serie A without a win.
