Direct Free Kicks

I have a question about free kicks. It says in the manual that I should let the bar get up to the sweet spot, but I dont see a sweet spot when taking free kicks. In fact, I havent even come close with any of my free kicks. Is there some tip to taking them in WC 06 that I am unaware off? Can someone please give me some help with this?

In the regular FIFA 06, taking free kicks was easy. I didnt score every time, or even part of the time, but I did challenge the keeper and hit the cross bar and posts a couple of times (some of which making their way into the net). But this is rediculous. If i just tap the shoot button (button 3 on my control pad) then it might go on net but be an easy save or it will be a hard high shot that misses completely. If i hold the shoot button til its almost full, then my shot just hits the line, or is completely off target again.

Then there is the issue of bending. I'm not even sure how to do it, but I thought I used the right analog stick to make the kick taker mose left or right, increasing or decreasing the bend on the shot if he is right footed. But that doesnt do anythign for me.

Anyway, can someone give me suggestions on how I am supposed to be taking free kicks, along with some helpful tips so that my free kicks might become useful for me

Thanks

I haven't scored any free kicks myself yet ( I have come close ) and you have to try and get it in the small area on the bar, which I think is red. To change the area where you want to hit it you move the left analog stick, to add curl/spin move the right analog stick. Hope that has helped!

it does help some actually. But i dont have a red spot on my bar. When i take penalty kicks, i have a red bar that moves back and forth, but not one when taking direct free kicks. Any idea how to fix that?

Thanks

You are right the red bar is on penalties but not free-kicks. I think you just have to judge it from how far out from goal you are. I find that just past half way is the best result.

I have scored a few free-kicks now and on all of them I have held down L1 which made him kick it faster. Also I found out that pushing the right analog stick down before doing everything gives you a long run up which really helps.

And where do you guys aim? :) i mean where do you all place enemy post while aiming the free kick? little left or right off the ball from the left side of an opposite goal?

In all honesty, I still havent quite mastered the art of direct kick taking. I still have trouble getting on goal, but at least it wasnt as bad as before, which was pretty horrible. Sometimes the goalie makes a spectacular save, and others he just stands there and watches it sail over his head. With me, its seems to be a hit or miss (literally) thing. Sorry no help
