yo, i was just wondering, i downloaded directX 9 and installed it, but the thing is would it have any effect on the performance of video games if my graphics card is only ATI Radeon 9000

Get the latest version of ati drivers. And there is no always need to be faster. Or maybe it is and u can't notice.

well the thing is if you want to install the latest drivers, Catalyst 3.6 then you have to have directx 9 installed or the catalyst 3.6 wouldn't install. you would just get an error saying that you havent installed directx 9 yet

No. There are versions of the drivers for win9x and ME and then 2k/xp.
Get latest CATALYST FROM ATI FOR XP.
