Discussion: English Players at Real Madrid

Larry

Fan Favourite
My friend said that English players at Madrid will only make their game worse.

"The input of English players they can only get ****ter

What do people think about this?

I think that maybe Owen was not that good of a buy, but that Woodgate will be a good player when he comes back from injury. Beckham is a good buy though. He may not be playing at his best all the time but his input to plays is still top notch.

What are your opinions?

As long as they dont stay injured for all etirnity its fine with me... Woodgate is ruled out for 10 weeks, Becks has fractures his rib, and the way Owen is playing it would be better if he WAS injured. Anyway you never know, it could take a turn for the best. The return of Woodgate should be great for us. Im hoping it is.

i always rate la liga and serie A higher than the english league because the EPL is too gung ho and players seem to have square feet...

english players who go to these leagues may not do well there but they'll become better players and it depends on their mentality if they'd actually deliver......

players like Lineker..Platt and Ince didn't set la liga or serie A alight but they became great players......Mcmanaman didn't play a lot but he scored in 1 or 2 champions league finals.....

the problem is the things they learn abroad can not be used in the EPL because there's no time or space....everybody is attacking so they go back to their limited all out attack approach.....

I want gerrard...Rio Ferdinand..Ashley cole.....Wayne rooney to go abroad for a year or two... then you'll see how internationally they will deliver even if they were on the bench in Madrid or Milan or whatever...

when is Woodgate never injured? I mean he comes back and then is ruled out for 10 weeks:| Becks's workrate and determination=(Y)(Y)(Y). Macca=my favorite ever English player(H)

YELLOW CARD - Sarcasm
As long as they are playing, they won't get worse, they may slump in form but they won't lose skills. Personally, I think it was a good move for all 3 players, the continental game (different too England's game) is what usually works on the International stage, surely with as many years experience Beckham, Owen & Woodgate have in the EPL, they can take their experiences from the La Liga and use the best of both games to make their game better.

One problem with Woodgate, as good as he is, he is incredibly injury prone

Beckham wasnt really a good signing hes played out of position in the middle , I dont know why they bought Owen they should have brought back Etoo . Woodgate is good , but is incredibly injury prone , hes lucky not to be in prison aswell.

IMO I think Becks works a tad harder when played in the middle. He runs all over the pitch now, tackling, spraying balls all over the place.

I think he's done a good job playing in the middle.

i think theyd probably do better if the bitches like raul and figo would give them a chance.Owen has only been there a few months, woodgate less so. It seems to me that Real Madrid is run by prima donnas all the way. They seem to have forgotten what it is to be a team and are now the equivalent of the harlem globetrotters. im sure its only a matter of time before a cartoon is made of them all. How many games did raul go without scoring ??? any other club would have dropped him, played owen and reaped the benefits but real. The press there dont make it any better, ( not that the english press is great before someone says.) I think that the players at real dont consider english footballers to be as good as them, a little arrogant if you ask me but hey, who am i ?

English players in general don't fit La Liga.Different football.Just doesn't suit them.
Plus if you are lucky to have Beckham playing in the wrong position, Owen warming the bench because of too much attackers, Woodgate practically not being a footballer thanks to injuries, then Englishmen really suck in Spain.

Well I think it's rather silly to make such a general judgement based on 4 or 5 English players who are playing/who's been to the La Liga.

English don't really need to go far to play good football, so I guess that's why not many of them are exported.

liga isnt suited for english players cuz liga is based on a fast paced game while epl has flourish and grace

you started off well, but in the end your trademark stupid comment came through. Owen is on the bench-he's yet to prove himself, even more so for Woodgate:| and Becks has been doing very well all things considered. so your final statement=:sb9: and funny how you never mentioned Steve McManaman who actually played quite well at Real, and don't even get me started on Gary Lineker:rolleyes:

well, technically real madrid really have only one englishman playing right now, at least consistently, becks

he has done pretty well, especially since he is out of position

very good pace, good vision on the pitch, finds different players, has scored twice from set plays...but he has defended poorly on a few occasions. Overall, I think this has been a good move for him.

Woodgate can't be graded thus far. he has yet to play against anyone in spain so far, but his health status worries me. I think he could benefit a lot though if he ever does get healthy. He'd really help solidify Madrid's defense when/if he comes back.

Owen, well he really hasnt done much so far. But what can he expect, the team already had 3 world class strikers before he arrived so playing time will be sparse. I think he could get going when Copa del Rey starts up at the end of this month. I dont know how riding the pine will help his international career though.

We'll have to see after the season is over to see how these 3 have done
