Diving and Controlling the Keeper

First, I think people should have a button to dive. If there is an obvious dive, the ref would let it go or card the diver, but in a close situation, it could go the other way. This is very much a part of the game today in real life.

Also, I think you should be able to have a button to control the keeper, so you can dive where you want, because sometimes really stupid goals happen.

What are everyone else's thoughts?

i agree. in this game i played (not sure what it was called) u could be able to fall on pupose and if it looked to fake, the ref will give a yellow card. but in that game i did not like how they made it look, but i think EA could make it more real. and yes i hate it when the goalkeeper lets the ball go in the other side and dosent even try to stop it.

If I remember correctly, World Cup '98 had controls for diving. I don't know if
this was carried over from the FIFA game of the day, but it was never continued
in FIFA '99.

[The diving animation was somewhat clumsy, but it was amusing to carry out a
dive in the box, be given a penalty, and have the commentator remark that it
"surely can't be a penalty", or something to that effect.]

As did I. Not that I can check now, but I remember that the pushing two of the
skill buttons at the same time caused a dive.

[Link. If you look in this list, it's "simulated foul", which is alt or ctrl + q, on the PC, or
one of two possible combinations of three of the shoulder buttons on the playstation.]

I still have my old N64, and that game (along with All-Star Baseball 1998, that was my first game), if you really want me to, I can check

Adding a diving button is a terrible idea. The game is a promotional tool and teaching those young kids that diving is okay, even though it obviously part of the game, is wrong. There should be an attribute making those who dive often (Inzaghi, Messi, etc.) more likely to dive. I think they had it in one of the games a few years back.

its realistic and all kids know about diving and do it on a regular basis, I can attest to this as a professional coach.

dont know about road to world cup 98, havent played that game in ages, but i do know about fifa 99, had to the install the game last week for helping a friend ( hint: you must use the full install option and apply the patch, after that you can play fifa 99 on win xp ), i played a bit and in fifa 99 you can dive, but it wasnt effective, i tried that a couple times but the ref never fall for it.

Did you do it after someone had narrowly missed a slide tackle?

i dont remember exactly, it was age sago since i played that game properly. I just recall I have never got any penalties or freekicks and there isnt a single person who told me he got one.

maybe its just a feature which you cant exploit or you really need a good timing ^^

OK, how about controlling the keeper (like you have to dive to save a shot)

in fifa 99 on pc you could press "Q" i think and then sometimes the players dived.

(i personally enjoyed to have the rferee to not give penalty on anyting and then just press "Q" "Q" "Q" "Q" to take down all players on the field) HEHE :fool: :fool:
but then i was only 7 years or somthing though!!
