Does PES Cheat?

I am on a quest to prove once and for all that PES cheats...
One way of doing that is getting stories from everyone else on this forum.

Many of us firmly believe that PES COM player cheats and cheats badly...
I spent many-a-day in front of my PS2 screaming all sorts things at the TV because of unfair calls or just plan freaky stuff that is just inhumanly like.
I know its just a game but some times it just goes too far all the while my girl friend looks at me funny when I call the PS2 a cheat'n %$#@'n %&*#

any ways... If you too believe that you have experienced one of these situations in the past give us the details. Maybe if everybody with a story explains it my Girlfriend might believe me... :boohoo:

yeah sometimes you feel like u r being cheated by the CPU but hmmm once u can used to the game... even if the CPU do unrealistic things.... u still can beat it.... i win almost all my matches now.... on the highest possible level!!!

i dun have any prob with the A.I. now.... i think it's okay.... referee making bad decisions etc... that also happens in real life!!!

No offense but, why do so many people have this typical response of "it's your mind giving you the illusion that you're being cheated"?
The CPU does cheat and you don't need to play so many matches to realize that because it's so obvious and happens so often that it's not even funny.
There are many ways to prove that the CPU is cheating and some include:
- The rebound coincidence: Where the ball miraculously rebounds to a CPU player.
- Suddenly your players make stupid slow passes and their responsiveness gets worse when the CPU is desperate to get a goal
- A CPU player takes an inaccurate shot that wouldn't have gone in but your keeper somehow touches it out for a corner.
- Slow CPU players outrunning the likes of C.Ronaldo
- Most rebounds from your keeper have to fall to the CPU for a tap in.
- Stupid fouls in favor of the CPU that are never given if your player was fouled (by the way, that ref whistle is annoying)
- Miraculous headers: where a 1.65m CPU player somehow manages to head the ball in even though he's surrounded by 1.95m defenders.
Feel free to add to that list. PES fanboys: Get over yourself, this game is disappointing in so many ways. For those who think it's awsome, you clearly haven't played early versions of PES or watched how the game used to progress.

PES6 is nothing but scripted garbage. I've never seen such a negative reaction towards a PES release before and frankly, this PES forum is the only one where their are still a reasonable number of fanboys. The other PES fora are abound with stinging criticism.

I cannot understand why some people still persist in defending this game. It used to be great but that was 3 or 4 years ago. It's clearly gone downhill since then and the cpu cheating is now as clear as day and completely overbearing.

I can only conclude that those who cannot see the scripted nature of the game and continual cheating are either in denial and clinging to the past glory of early versions of PES, they must be really very stupid, or both (ie. called niceman).

alot of fouls not called other than that the offense system for the COM seems repetitive. They just chip the ball in front of box over your defense. How creative.

IF you actually play home & away enabled on away matches you almost never get fouled

I always lose on "Regular" difficulty. Then I play on "Amateur" and it's too easy.

I play FIFA on world class and i can win consistently, so I guess i suck at pes

Aways lose on regular? I think you need to start improving, pay training mode a visit, spend hours on end practising. Good luck :mexican: One other solution - play your friends - It's so much more fun! To tell the truth, the CPU when you play against them on any level above amateur have way too much possession of the ball and it's hard to get it back, just use your possession spells to your advantage..

Yes the CPU cheats, period. Sheringham10 gave some real good insights on the CPU's scripting. The game is ok tho. Just really frustrating at times.

yes it does but its apart from the realty to put u under high stress in the final moments of the much that gives the rush
but u get used to it i beat the ai on top player against any team

I can live with being cheated by the CPU, even though its MUCH improved A.I is the best so far. Its being cheated by real people when playing online that I cant stomach. I'm a football fan. A purist. I have a deep appreciation for the skill and finesse of the real life game and therefore try to reflect this in my approach to playing PES6. But when I play against laggers, cut back merchants and people who score 3 IDENTICAL goals in an online game it really takes away the option of playing online. Therefore, I will continue to play ML and take heart from the fact that Im playing for the love of the game, not to make up for my lack of skill, guile, finesse and tactical prowess. JOGA BONITA, not results and winning statistics. Some people just dont 'get it'.

The problem with PES is that it is based on the PS2. The PS2 is just not powerful enough. Secondly Konami got lazy, instead of adding improvements to the PC version (such as better A.I, real time lighting, longer replays, bigger leagues) which could have been implemented on the PS3 or XBOX 360 years later, they just kept using the same code with very little improvements.

Konami seems to use shortcuts in order to get it to work on the PS2.

1) Cheap ball physics, instead of trying to calculate in real time where the ball will go, the ball will most often just rebound to a players foot, most often a cpu players foot.
2) CPU players will always react quicker to rebounds than your players,as most of the cpu goes into helping the cpu players than your own.
3) The game is often like 1 player vs 11 cpu players, with very little help from the rest of your players. Most often the rest of your players will just stand there and do nothing when it comes to rebounds or loose balls.

I agree with that (and the rest of your post)
Another reason that makes the game feel this way is the crappy positioning of the rest of the players.

Yeah, the ball doesn't seem like it's a free object but is just a part of the AI model, entrapped within the web of players. In my opinion, it is this aspect of the game that is in most need of a rewrite. It's so heavily scripted and is just so old now.

I am increasingly dismayed at the obvious disparity in the "physics" of the game depending upon which team has possession. When the cpu has the ball, the whole game speeds up as they ping around pixel perfect passes, the ball "physics" ensuring that, even if it goes astray, it will out of nowhere have imparted upon it some mysterious spin forces to stop it going out of play, etc.

Then, when you get the ball, it all slows down, like playing in thick mud, but any "loose" balls conveniently zip out of play faster than you could ever hope to kick it. Not to mention the laughable balloon shots which they've now introduced, although it's only your team that are afflicted, not the cpu team, as per usual.

The double standards, the variable physics to "make things happen" is horrible. This game would be much more impressive if they wrote a true, objective, physics model which applied equally to both teams, instead of the "scripted" physics to favour the cpu team.

Having seen PES6 on Xbox360, all they done is copy across the same scripted crap. This game is stagnant and there's no sign they're going to do anything about it, even on PS3. I think Seabass thinks everyone still loves his gameplay. Some people still do, but ever more people are now sick of it.

very good write up samuel, i possess the same opinions about the lose ball, ball physics and double standarts but when you think about it. In order to make the game challenging there will always be double standards because no company can write a script complex enough to make AI players move and think human like.

PES has the best game play script outthere and no other company has been stepping up to the plate. Some people say FIFA07 cought up to PES as far as game play to me it still feels too arcade to play.


Most old school PES players will tell you game is not challenging enough even on Top player mode. I can beat any team with even the crappiest teams on hardest level because most of the time AI offense is too predictable. Even worse now with the over the defense chips.

Konami really made it worse with new Goalkeeper, passing and lose balls and ball controls but then again they have to leave some expectations for the next series. They just wouldnt give you perfect game with nothing to fix or improve for the next one.

Its scripted, CPU Controlled rubbish! I agree 100%. Its so obvious when your 1-0 up on the hardest setting and the CPU suddenly plays like every player in the team is world class, then your players turn into Retards.

I had a backpass to the goal keeper go through the keepers legs. And no i didnt press R1. It does cheat. The way that if you fail to clear a ball and the pressure is constant they will score eventually.

i tell u guys u just need to focus and more practicing
the ai with time becomes really predictable
i played all the series of WE from We2 untill now
Pes6 is the best Football game Ever
i even feel happy when i loose by the cpu cause i feel the challenging

To be honest, i don't understand exactly the meaning of "scripted" mentioned by your guys, i only believe that PES should be played in multiplay mode, play it at home with your good friends or your relative.

Fortunately i have a young brother who is cracked by this game as i am. We play pes6 three times every night from the time the game was released, and every time you find more fun from it, sometimes you feel it is too realistic, not only the game play, but also some FC's state in game is high similar with their realism,even the single player. Other evidence for the game's high realistic is that i always play the game better just after i watched a realistic football match from TV, i think there maybe someone has the same experience with me.

Well, if you want to find this game's shortage by all means, i will say that i always lose in the game with my little brother, i feel frustrated sometimes because i believe in my gameplay control is better than him, he always plays the game with 4-3-3 formation and gets used to dribble along the touchline with some high-skill player, breach and shoot near the penalty area. This strategy has been adopted by my brother from pes4 and even WE4, it is simple but it is useful to win the game. So if every series of PES(WE) has this same problem it should be the "scripted" and it is utilized by someone with utilitarianism, like my brother.
