MEXICO CITY -- Landon Donovan's second stay in Germany could be brief.

The Los Angeles Galaxy is reportedly close to sending forward Carlos Ruiz to Dallas so it can acquire Donovan from Bayer Leverkusen in Germany.

The 25-year-old Ruiz, who is from Guatemala, led the Galaxy in scoring each of the past three seasons and was Major League Soccer's most valuable player in 2002.

Donovan, a 23-year-old midfielder who is the reigning U.S. player of the year, spent the past four seasons playing for the San Jose Earthquakes in an arrangement with Bayer Leverkusen, which owned his rights.

A Kicker magazine article published Thursday in Germany reported Donovan was returning to MLS, and the Los Angeles Times quoted sources in its Friday editions as saying Donovan could be in a Galaxy uniform in time for the team's season opener at Columbus on April 2.

Barely played. Only started in the return of Leverkusen vs. Liverpool because Ponte was suspended and played terrible.

Prior to the Liverpool game he was doing alright. He was mostly coming in off the bench (started one league game) but seemed to be in pretty tight competition with Ponte for the starting attacking midfielder. He had a terrible game against Liverpool and hasn't played since.

Nobody told Thierry Henry to "grow the **** up" after he left Juventus early.

Donovan should finish the season with Leverkusen, but hes gonna go where hes happy. Thats just the person that he is.

True but he didn't go running back home after Juve, he signed with Arsenal. Unless I'm missing something, that's what happened, correct me if I'm wrong.

Donovan should sign for a smaller Bundesliga club, preferably Mainz (where Casey is) or M'gladbach. I don't see him ever cementing a spot in Leverkusen's starting 11.

Nah.....he aint homesick. Once Donovan saw the size of Kahn's balls he knew it was time to pack up & go home :)

This doesn't suprise me in the least. In fact, I remember reading in FourFourTwo that he didn't really want to return to Leverkusen. Right now, returning to MLS would be a giant step backward for his career. We need our best players playing in Europe, on a regular basis.
