well he did start today, that's a good sign.
Donovan's going to beat out Ponte for the attacking midfield position sooner rather than later. Reports are that he looked pretty good today, and he also got his first Bundesliga assist in the last game he played. It's only his third game with the club but I think he's settled in now. It would be great to see him play in the Champions League.

I heard donovan came back to germany because he was assured he wouldn't sit on the bench for leverkusen like he did a few years ago. So yeah, the start today will probably be many more to come.

One of my fellow Stampede members is on a business trip in Europe and went to Leverkusen's game this weekend. This is what he had to say about the game an LD:
Hey all, I was at the Leverkusen/Mainz game tonight. LD should have had 2 or 3 assists but the fwds squanderred a bunch of chances. It was nice to see Casey get a run for a bit at the end as well. I sat 3 rows up from the goal Bayer Leverkusen defended in the second half so I got to see CC work up close. It was right next to the Mainz supporters though, but the non ultras mostly sat on the other side of the "pen".
LD was taking all of the FK from the left side of the field and in general was just expected to create chances. He didn't have much if any defensive responsibilites and didn't get too many touches either. BL really attacks alot through their wings then used LD in the final third. His job was basically to decide who to slot the ball to in order for the team to score. I don't think he had any real chances to score unless I missed one in the first 2-3minutes. He wasn't too active off the ball, but I think that's by design? He seemed very limited in the role the coach wanted him to play, but he played that role very well tonight. I rarely saw him track back or recieve a ball with his back turned to goal.
It was a great game and boy am I glad BayArena has a roof! It was also fun to see the crowds reaction when they anounced the Bielefield/BayernMunich score.
