Overall I have to agree, the game is not worth much in its original package.

With some tweaks it can be made playable but one cant expect every household to have someone that knows how to tweak a game by editing ini files.

In its original form WC 2002 is filled with flaws that makes the game being it simulation or arcade almost non playable for a die hard football fan. EA did not spend enough time and effords to test this game amongst normal peeps before shipping it out.

It has to be said that it can played and won at all lvls, I ve seen it, my neighbour can do it, but he sleeps with his joypad and knows it better than the palm of his hand. Sorry, dont know if ya catch my drift, but I aint going to bed with my joypad to win wc 2002 in worldclass mode.

What options would uwant to see? U can changes all kinds of stuff... What the heck is "menu" - the main menu you use it to go into the game, make changes. If u know the gameply is crap, looks like u managed to work the menu!

I didn't!

I didn't buy the game, I d/l it but only because of the lack of options available. To be honest I don't mind most of the gameplay. I'll definitely buy Fifa 2003 if they improve a few things here and there. I've bought every Fifa title since they came out and mostly I think they've got better. Regardless of people complaining about graphics are irrelevant, I love great graphics in a game. The gameplay, apart from a few mistakes which are irritating, I can live with. At the end of the day I just wanna play decent soccer titles and despite my frequent roasting of EA I'm glad they exist or we'd be stuffed on the PC.

They can think for themselves. There is a demo. You can't just ask someone not to buy the game because you don't like it.

Start with Argentina

Yep peeps from some places say their stats and player info could use work. must be fun gathering all that stuff every year to update it and keep it correct. In WC 2002 there aren't many teams, but the full FIFA is hundreds. good luck to batistuta's number geting updated for 2003.

No, I disagree. We must try and make it as obvious as possible that FIFA games simply aren't good enough compared to what is on the market today (hint PES). It is not our job to make the game better (I think the patches make it worse to be honest) because EA SPORTS have to learn. This FIFA community isn't as good as it used to be and thats because FIFA isn't as good as it used to be. I actually think FIFA 2002 and World Cup 2002 are the worst ones made yet. The passing system doesn't work well enough, because the typical FIFA predictability is still there. And football games are anything but predictable. I say bring back the old passing system and realistic shooting. Oh, and try and make the ball and the player separate objects when dribbling because this is one of the biggest flaws of all FIFA games.

SO I URGE ALL FIFA PATCHMAKERS (APART FROM FACE-MAKERS) TO GO ON STRIKE!! AND SHOW EA SPORTS THAT WE DON'T CARE ABOUT FIFA UNTIL FIFA REALLY IS FOOTBALL!!!

thankyou

I totally agreed with you Thomas. Here is my reply to another thread similar to this in the FIFA202 forum:
EA's target a broad audience so FIFA will never have realistic gameplay because in their eyes that will turn people away. EA is not dumb. I believe that they can make FIFA have realistic gameplay. But it is not in their interest. Their primary goal is to make money and lots of it as with every gaming developer. There are different ways to do this. Ea opted for the fancy graphics and simple gameplay because they know that is what selling. Someone said this to me and kinda makes sense. There are basically two kind of gamers. There is the kind that basically see things as the way they are on the surface. These kind of people like fancy graphics and direct gameplay. They love First person shooter games because it is basically a search and destroy mission. Then there is the kind of gamers who dwell deep down the surface of a game. These people tends to look beyond the graphics and the direct gameplay. They want a complex game that will challenge their mind. These kind of gamers like RPG games or complex simulations like the CIV3. There is nothing wrong with either kind. It is just the way people are. I believe that a majority of FIFA fans falls in the first category. They fancy the graphics and the simple direct gameplay and tend not to care if the game is realistic or not. For them it is just fun. Fun is really relative to each person. What is fun to someone may not be to another. Fun for someone is scoring beating the cpu 12-0 and 8 of those goals are repetative. For others, it might be 1-0 winning on penalty but they feel they appreciated a greater satisfaction because they earned it. Enough about this talk, I hope you get what I am trying to say. As far as people updating and making patches. That's their provocative. I used to do that but is such as waste of time. I would rather play footie or a decent footie game then wasting my time making patches for something that I deem is not worth it. Why, because in my eyes, I am putting more effort into something that should have been so much better in the first place. And this is at the expense of my free time while the EA programmers and artists are getting **** load of money for their work. I don't want to discourage people to do patches because it is up to them. Sometimes these people need FIFA because they enjoy editing graphics. Otherwise they might need to pick up a new hobby or a new job.
BUT think about it patchers, in the end you are only hurting the game unless EA take noticed.

They do NOT have to do SH!T. They don't owe ANYTHING to ANYONE. All they do is.... they develop a computer game, a product. And it is up to the people to buy it. EA don't steal your money and give you the game, no. All they do is create a computer game that sells amongst people like you all.

The saddest thing is that when they create a computer game that you don't like, you guys come here and whine. GET OVER IT. Why is it that you guys have to prove a point to them? What, you don't have a life outside soccer computer games? I am emphasizing on "soccer" computer games because there are other games out there that are really great (Medal of Honor, Op. Flashpoint, CIV3, CS) - play them. There's enough of computer entertainment on the market. You only like soccer games? Well, that's too bad that there is no soccer games on the market that are any good (which isn't true - ISS games by all the reports are great). Why blame the EA?

Just because you guys buy FIFA game every year doesn't mean that EA owes something to you. Simply don't buy it. And it only relfects YOUR level of intelligence buying a product every year for 40 bucks and being unhappy with it. Not EA's.

Old passing?

sorry, but I have to disagree about the old passing system being better. The old passing system did an almost perfectly weighted pass to feet every time and that's totally not realistic. At least in Fifa 2002 and WC 2002 you have the opportunity to play the ball exactly where you like and how hard you like and I prefer that any day.

As for stopping making patches. EA don't give two flying craps about whether people do or don't make patches, in fact they'd probably rather we didn't so it doesn't make them look like the crapheads they are. Telling people to stop making patches is just gonna make people miss out on improvements to what is the only title on the PC at the moment which is half-decent in soccer terms. If Konami can get a program together for the PC we'll be in a different situation. They shouldn't be held to ransom by Sony or anybody else about exclusive console only soccer programs. The software houses have the power because at the end of the day they don't make good software for that console then the console won't sell. Unfortunately, Sony are arrogant bastards who try to monopolise the market and tie up software houses by blackmailing them into only making titles for their machines or they can't make them for their PS consoles.

Let's get real, When we have a choice in games on the PC let's talk about boycotting EA and patch making but for the millions of us who don't own a console and have no choice, we need patch makers. One day I will look forward to boycotting EA but until Konami produce something for the PC I can't do that.

Yeah, you do have some truth there, but basically most of the patches are either graphical and/or roster changes. These things are mostly fine the way they are (apart from some exceptions) and it's the gameplay that needs drastically improving. Yes, we can edit the ini.big but that isn't the core of the gameplay. EA are probably the only people who can change the core unless an ex/retired professional programmer comes along to discover how crap FIFA's gameplay is, which is highly unlikely. No-one in these forums can edit the gameplay that doesn't involve the ini.big, and therefore all the patches are doing is fooling you into thinking that the game has improved but the horrible/depressing gameplay still seeps through like a smell you can't get away. It's just so frustrating, year after year we get the same stuff. And you can critisize me for still buying the games year after year, but the reason for this is that I'm praying that maybe, just maybe, they have done it. It has yet to happen. So I will still buy FIFA 2003. And wait in anticipation as I put the CD in my drive for the first time. Please put some effort into it EA. Just this time. For goodness' sake.
