Well PES/WE6 has been the best football series in the past and I would totally agree with any statement similar to that. I own WE6 , WE5 FE ,PES and all the J Leauges and they have all been absoutley superb in their own right. However and this is a big however...if the version that everyone is talking about is the final and I really doubt it is then prepare for a major let down. Because Ive played it for hours now and its not a patch on WE6 and WE6 JL. And Im not talking in terms of names and teams etc Im talking about gameplay.

Firstly its fast..some people will prefer it , personally I dont mind but I did prefer the old slider.I thought WE 6 speed was excellent

Secondly some of the bobbles are rediculous. Ok OK you get that in footie but these for me are to frequent

Thirdly it seems every match is always end to end football and frantic

Fourthly it seems that top player miss control the ball alot and it bounces off and away from them. Too far away from them so they loose it regularly

Shooting seems too easy from distance and you can blast it too hard too accurate.

Dribbling is far to easy and you can regularly beat 4 men with one player

Commentry is utter dire. And uses the word 'Incident' about 25 times a game. Mainly at the end replays. Trevor Brooking possibly also seems to get the words Stands and Fans confused. For example after a foul he will say 'The stands weren't happy with that tackle' (Then agian he could be talking about the people in the stands so they might mean it like that) Also when the commentator says he's helaed that backwards. Whet the FCUK is that about. Its called a backheal. This is in the demo also so that will probably stay.

The good news is there is strong talk of it being a BETA. Remeber last year when there was thwe same argument about PES. On the BETA players wouldnt jump for headers and the Commentry kept making errors. The other thing that makes it look like a BETA bsides team names etc is that fact that someone has looked at all the files and has noticed that none of them has been updated since August. Now if the game is due to be released in OCT/NOV surely Konami wouldnt just sit on it and do nothing for 2 months if it was finished

I AM SICK OF THESE POSTS!!!!!!! You say it isn't as good as JLWE6, I have read elsewhere that it IS better than JLWE6..!! who is right?? Who has the latest version?? I don't care right now....!!! Come back on the 25th with a boxed version from the shop, then tell me what you think..!

Like I said...this isn't aimed at you it is to everyone saying they have an early copy which may or may not be finished code..!! These posts have totally ruined the build up of the game for me. And don't be smart and say "Well don't read them then..!!"

Anyone else feel like this at the moment..!!??

I don't think it's THAT bad - it IS more or less the same engine as JLWE6 - the ball bobbles, bounces, player jockying/shoulder barging is the same that's in JLWE6 and not present in plain old WE6 - the main difference is that the game is slightly faster (I'm playing it unpatched on a multisystem TV, so in PAL) than WE6 but not rediculously fast (again, it's 8% faster on NTSC TVs after u've patched it which would be too fast I think) - the main difference between this and JLWE6 is that the players are MUCH faster (ie higher speed, acceleration ratings) and more skilled which is why the game flows faster - but I think with the new ball physics, the bobbles and the jockying/new tackling it seems more realistic (though just sped up more - why the fcuk isn't there a gamespeed slider?) - tackling isn't as surgically clean and dry as before.

Forwards still press too far upfield though, and free kicks are the same as b4.

I do hope this is the beta though because the rosters are butchered beyond belief and the commentators (so crap they're funny) keep talking over each other.

They have that Japan Football Association logo as the game loads up so hopefully that's a sign that this isn't the full release (even though Umbro is everywhere once you're in the game).

I think I have good news:
The Magazine PSM2 #28 (the newest) provided a movie on CD about PES 2 and there you see a very smooth game with (important!) Ronaldo with his World Cup hair-cut.

I read that the "semi-legal" copy has Ronaldo with another haircut, which is the haircut from before the World Cup.
If you read the post from, for instance capitanpato, he told that it is changed in his version.
This means that the new game is in any case NOT the same one where the gameplay was jerky. He probably DID have the beta version...

well, stuie. we have the same version of the game
but we have different opinions about it.

1. i HOPE that this is a BETA version because i HATE the fact that Rivaldo still play on Barca etc.

2. i want to be able to swap players in the editor just like in we6 j-league (1. option) so i hope that will be in the retail too.

BUT (and here comes my disagreement):

I think the gameplay is WAY better than we6. I LOVE THE GAMEPLAY!
me and 5 of my friends, we play we/pe since psx days, have played through the WHOLE last night and we ALL LOVE the improved gameplay! we6 is a joke compared to pes2 gameplay!

but anyway, i hope it is BETA because of the old team rosters.

Fair enough that is your opinion but the game runs like a PSX game!

My main problem with it is that when you are dribbling, every time you go to kick the ball infront of you it seems to jerk as you change direction. Oh yeah, and you can shoot like in FIFA and it will fly into the top corner of the net!!! Whats all that about hey?

I think you should find that all the gameplay glitches should be ironed out and it should be as smooth as J-League when it is released!

I don't really care about team names and players etc. If someone said to me, "You can play the best footy game in the world but it hasn't got any real teams". I would be happy with that. Its the actuall gameplay that matters!

Some people say the semi-illegal version plays jerky when turning players. That was another version than some who has somehow another (early?) copy.
We try to find out what version is the real release version.
The one has Ronaldo with World-cup haircut and the other (older illegal) version with is regular haircut The first one is the official, better one IMHO

Don't like to compare WE games with PE games. They are different games. Compare WE6 to WE6FE, compare PES to PES2. When they make the games, that is what they have in mind, that you are playing this game from PES not from WE6, and when you play WE7, they assume you've been playing WE6, not PES2. But hey, you guys do whatever you want.

The man: I agree with the fact that you must compare PES with PES and WE with WE games. However, some of us are lucky enough to be able to play both games, and here is where the inevitable comparisons will arrise.

People who have only played PES, will be very happy with PES2. It is a much better game. However those who have played JLWE6 will feel cheated.

IMO PES2 is a much better game than WE6, but it is nowhere near JLWE6 in terms of gameplay. The only drawback from JLWE6 being the language (fixable with a patch) and the j-league teams, or rather the lack of world class teams, aside from the few of the Master League.

I find it hard to believe that you would prefer PES games over WE games, and I'm not saying you do, but hey, that's just my opinion. You have stated that you play via your computer monitor so maybe your appreciation of the game is different. Maybe your game is not in "turbo mode" like mine with the PAL 2 NTSC patch.

To each his own. Maybe we can't agree on whcih is better PES or WE, but at least we can agree that FIFA is just pure crap.

This is my point. Like I do, you can play both and appreciate both games for what they are. PES2 and WE6 are not in competition with each other, remember that. If you happen to like one over the other, that is great for you, you have the choice, use it. That means, if you don't like PES2, you have WE6 right? what is the problem?

I don't know about that, apart from game speed, the game plays the same as JL to me.

I prefer WE games personally. I like the ball physics better, I like the commentator better and the great patches that are released for it, change all the names and stuff like that that I don't have to worry about. I enjoy PE games. I like the shooting in PE games, I don't like the player models. They are different games, but I appreciate both.

i cant see ANY difference in terms of gameplay in pes2 and JLeague! the gamespeed is the same to me! the kalisto release has slower gamespeed than we6 in fact!
it is because some of you applied that PAL2NTSC patch which makes the gamespeed faster.
my pes2 plays slowly but realistically.

to answer your question.
i have the KAL release of pes2 and actually i strongly believe that this is a beta version cos there are so many evidences like you know from all the talk there s been.
i dont know if this goes also for the retail version but from what i have experienced i can say that the game is SLOWER than we6 and as slow as J-League we6!
the passes and everything is much slower and the overall gamespeed feeling is realistic cos its nicely slow but not too slow at all!
i dont think its cos i been on so much green lately fo sho
so you dont have to worry bout the pes2 gamespeed believe me, you'll like it.

the rest of the gameplay has been IMO much improved over we6 and is EXACTLY the same like j.league we6 but the players have better stats and thats why the shots and everything are much more powerful and accurate so that the game is so damn realistic. you ve seen all the Riise shots lately havent u? u can pull them off here too, it is sooooo great!

I LOVE THIS GAME (even if it s only a beta!)

alright arthur. forget what i said in the last post. this ONLY refers to the multiplayer side of the kalisto release of pes2.
i just played my first single player match ManU vs. Arsenal on 5 stars of course. and then came the total shock!!!

how can the gamespeed increase IN SUCH A RIDICULOUS WAY from the relatively slow multiplayer gamespeed (also on 5 stars) to the lightning FAST single player gamespeed?
i dont know but the gamespeed is NOWHERE near we6 not even think of we6 j-league! it is ULTRA FAST PACED!
you dont have a single tenth of a second to think about what you can do. this reminds me STRONGLY of PES1. i still remember how i couldnt get the hang of it in the beginning because of the ultra fast gamespeed. this is the same with pes2!

i'm sorry to say all that but it is true. the gamespeed is completely ridiculous in this beta version. i hope they fix this in the retail but i highly doubt it. they'll most likely stick to the gamespeed feeling of PES1.

man, i give you a good advice. rent the game first. do not run out and buy it without thinking. as things are now i WOULD NOT recommend to buy the game but again this is probably a beta that i m playing so i dont wanna blame the retail version right now.

if the retail will have the same highspeed gameplay i WILL wait until we6fe and get that then.

So PES2(beta)'s game speed is approximately the same as PES? I think I can handle that(I've been playing PES non-stop for almost a year now). Would you recommend it to someone who does not have WE6 as a definite buy?

For the record; single player gamespeed seems fine to me (unpatched, in PAL - no cutoff ). I am not superman and do not have superman reflexes by any stretch of the imagination but I still have time to spread the ball around, play possession football, use the analog for long passes etc. I even re-created Wales' win over Italy on 5 stars (though I won 4-2 ) just a few mins ago, pity there is no Millenium Stadium.

Anyway, like someone said earlier, let's just wait for the full version before we go all alternating between 'I love this game(TM)' it really tosses my salad.....
