To improve the CC for Version 2, I'd like to make the following suggestions:
(1) The present version does not allow you to allocate numbers to players. Given the attention to
detail with the graphics, this seems like a glaring omission and people are having to use Microsoft
Access to sort it out. An ability to assign numbers is a must.
(2) Editing teams in the CC currently causes rosters and team numbers for in-game teams to change.
Again - correcting this is essential.
(3) Created teams are only available in Friendly mode. It would be good to see a return to last year's
system where created teams were available for any Custom Cup tournament. I'm aware that the CC
has taken over some of the role of the Custom Cup but it would do no harm to have both options,
particularly as...
(4) Every time a package is loaded, all saved games, team management and options are lost. This
decreases the flexibility of the package idea - ie that you can import friend's packages and stuff from
the internet. You can - but only if you start all leagues and competitions from scratch.
(5) The ability to create kits and supporter's graphics is great, but to create a league of, say, 20 teams
would take a very long time. More 'generic' kit types would be a useful inclusion. There's been 40 or sso kit varieties for as klong as I can remember - this year we only have 10.
The option to have 32 team knockouts and 24 team leagues has been dropped this year - and
again this decreases the flexibility of the product.
(7) The Free Cam and Zoom options are absent this year. I'm straying onto potential F2003 patch
territory here but considering the effort you've put in to making the graphics superb, if ever there was
a game that needed zooming in abilities, it must surely be this one.
(8) Being able to define our own ref strictness and weather (not to mention, as was the case long
long ago, allocating stadia to teams) is preferable to having it done for us and again, I can't see that
it adds anything to the game to take these features out.
(9) Any changes we make, whatever the limitations of the software, must at least be importable into the game. At the moment, not all my edited kits are loading up.
(10) Ultimately, editability is where it's at. Even RPG games - which used to just involve moving from one 2D room to another - are beginning to incorporate editing features and zoom cams. A full blown stadium editor is probably a long way off but some sort of modular approach may be possible - mix 'n' match stands etc - just to provide a bit of customised flavour.
(11) Surely - surely - changing one strip of one team can be achieved without having to gobble up 30MB of hard disk space.
(12) Why does the CC have to be separate from the main game - it was much better when it was incorporated into the main body of the software.
(13) More control over which teams play which in K/Os would be useful. Recreating this year's Champion's League is not possible because in addition to there being a limitation of 16 teams in K/O competitions, we have no way of controlling which teams go into which groups. Have a look at the Character Generator for DnD 3rd Edition by Wizards Of The Coast - it has a drag n drop interface for skills and attributes that could be used to drop teams specifically into league and K/O 'slots'.
If I think of anything else, I'll be back. As I've said elsewhere in these forums, most of these changes are of the "admin" variety and ought to be perfectly achievable by programmers. Compared to getting the gameplay right, this ought to be the easy bit.
