Ebonix's Match By Match Updates

YELLOW CARD - Sarcasm
This season I've started playing for a local team after I tore my ankle ligaments while I was at University. I played yesterday for my team. Longlevens AFC. (I know I've started this mid-way through the season but the idea only just came to me)

Yesterday we had a County Cup match against a team called Avenue FC (Pub Team). Last week I had a nightmare of a game, being a keeper, I was at fault for one of the 4 goals and wasn't exactly convincing during the rest of the match so yesterday I was out to prove a point.

The first incident which involved me was corner, It came straight for me but as I went to punch it away it slipped off my glove and hit the post :$
I thought I was in for another mare.

Shortly after though I made about 3 fairly decent saves from long shots and a free kick. All was going swimmingly untill I took a goal kick. When I kicked the ball, it felt like one of my muscle in my upper thigh had popped. Thats the only way to describe it. We didn't have a playable sub keeper (The one we did have had a broken finger). So I had to try and play on. Which was fun.

Nothing else really happened during the first half, apart from me throwing everything out instead of drop kicking it.

Second half came round and it was another quiet half really, our team never looked like scoring. I had to claim a cross and turned over a volley that was just dipping under the bar.

So we came to extra time, the first half was another quiet half, neither keeper had much to do.

Second half of extra time was when it really kicked off. About 30 seconds in I fad to charge off my line and block a strikers shot, taking him out in the process (H) (10 minutes later I saw him hobbling about complaining about his shin hurting). We brought on the sub keeper and put him upfront and about five minutes before the end of the match, one of their defenders missed a low cross, which then went to the keeper and he half volleyed it into the bottom corner. (H)!

So we won 1-0 and were on to the next round of the cup, my leg is killing today and I think I might be out for the coming saturday depending on how it feels.

How did the token black guy do.

He actually hasn't played since the game we had too many players and he was told he had no place in the team that day.

Its tuesday now and my leg is feeling allot better. I should be okay for this coming Saturday

Ahh poor black man. :(

I've always wanted to play with a really fast black guy, and just play it over the top to him constantly, surely it would work eventually. But I have never got the privilege :kader:

Believe me, It doesn't work no matter who you have upfront

Do you have a certain memory of your best/favorite save? Because today in my school game, tied 1-1, this kid pulled an overhead kick and my keeper pulled off an amazing save.

I kicked a ball off the goal line once. Here's the scary part........I was facing the goal & the ball was like 2 feet in the air so i skyed it :p Couldve gone either way though.....

That same 1-1 game I really my saved keepers ass and my teams as well, as our backup is crap. 1 v 1 he brought down the forward just outside of the box, was about to see red, but the linesman called over the ref and said it isnt a red card because he wasnt the last man, I was. I sprinted all the way back and recovered for him (H).

I've made a few saves over the years that I've loved. One recent was I was playing 5-a-side for my 5-a-side team against top of the table. One of their players belted it from about 15 yards out, heading straight for the bottom corner, even though I couldn't see the ball, I dived anyway, when I did see it I just managed to turn it around the post. A few years ago I pulled off a save similair to Banks's save during the World Cup in Mexico. Obviously it wasn't so awesome but it was something along the lines of it. I'm more of a fan of multiple saves though, where a keeper has to make numerous stop from point blank.

Anyway, I'm not playing this week, I've tried going "light" jogging and swimming with my leg and its not any better. Week after we don't have a game either so I think this thread might get a bit dusty in the next two weeks (H)

Yes it does. In high school on JV for a year and Varsity for my senior year I had a lightning fast (black) player up top and he could beat anyone to a ball, it worked with him.

In my experience the players in the midfield are never good enough to play a pin-point pass over the top, especially in wet ol' England

Sounds to me like you tore a ligament in your groin. Thats exactly what I felt when I did (leg popping out from the thigh).

I had a similar tackle. Difference is I'm a GK aswell as Liam. I had to run out trying to stop a quick break-away. I misjudged it and had to tackle the opponent running towards it. He hit first time and I dived with my feet in the air (like a drop-kick) and knocked it away. Half-way up though, I heard a pop. Had to come off right after and my knee has never been the same.

I'd say that my favorite (but not best) save was in my first match on FieldTurf, which I didn't like at the time. The other team got a penalty, and the kid put it against the bottom of the crossbar, and I had guessed the right way (to my right). It was coming down behind me, most likely into the net, so mid-dive I spun my body around like a torpedo and threw my bottom (right) elbow at the ball and sent it a few yards off the line, to the right of the net. I landed on the ground obviously, and while I was popping back up, a different kid hit the ball first time from the corner of the six yard box. It was going to my left, but there was no way I could get up to actually dive for it, as the ball was hit hard. I just had this feeling that I could get to it from the ground, despite being fairly short for a keeper. I pushed off the ground with my right arm, and the momentum made me go onto my knees, and I saw the ball coming still to my left. I stretched all the way and tipped it with my left hand, and to my amazement it flew (and curled somewhat) just past and just above the top corner.

This all happened within a second or two, as the rebound shooter had cheated past the edge of the penalty area before the kick was taken, but it didn't matter.

I assume that your leg is all better now?
