Editing PES2 Stats - I Think I've Cracked It

It's there to be used so some of us are now starting to use it to significantly improve the experience. I guess you guys that will only play with the default player attributes (because KCET have written them in stone?) won't be using the team kit editor either.

I post here cuse i defeintly will try this out when i have the game, my message was only concerning "the pace of a football match"

I know that PS2 programs are written in C++, but that's as far as my techie knowledge goes, I'm afraid.

Han - I find that 2 points either side in a player's stats doesn't make too much difference (the player's arrow being up or down accounts for more than that), so I just move all midfielders' response stat down by 5 points except for the sort of players that used to be called "inside forwards", who are basically deep-lying strikers (Paul Scholes, Rui Costa, Rivaldo, etc) - their stat goes down by 10. The rule is - if the player could fill in as a centre forward, his stats go down by 10, if not, just 5.

And I've DEFINITELY decided that dribble speed and dribble accuracy should only go down by 10, not 20 points. That means that any half-decent player can manage to sidestep a challenge, only technically excellent players can go past 2 or 3 sometimes, and a Giggs-style 45-yard run and shot can only be performed by players as good as Giggs. With the 20-point dribble reduction, only Zidane was still able to do anything really flash, and the game was looking a little bit too much like PES1...with a 10-point reduction, you still get nice open games, but those crazy runs are not an everyday thing.

Blanket reductions of points are all well and good but at times you may need to consider the stats of each player as an individual. Reducing a player with a dribbling stat of 70 to 50 may have less of an impact than reducing from 85 to 75.

I'm not sure exactly how KCET have scaled things but I suspect that there is some sort of banding. All stats above 80 go yellow and all above 90 go orange. This possibly means that particular skills may only be attainable at each banding. A player with a 79 stat may not be able to achieve a particular skill that a player with a stat of 80 has.

The other thing I feel is that very few players except the very best ever actually dribble past anyone these days. Most players, when they come up against someone, just stop and pass, unless they feel confident that they can knock the ball past and outpace them.

I'll reduce the stats of the likes of Brazil by less than I reduce the stats of Austria. This makes the best teams seem much more special and it feels like an achievement to get a draw against them.

Nah.. I change all values equally. There is more reason to minish the values of , say, China who already had so few points. Rather than bonusing Brazil who already is so good...
I found the new settings very good. Looked like the levels have shifted. Level 2 looks like the standard level 3 and three looks even better than the standard level 4.
Especially the response attribute does the trick, I think.
Because dribbling does not affect the quality of the CPU-team I will change those dribbling attributes by 10, not by 20.

I've just whacked the dribbles up 10 (therefore only down 10), and it's now priceless. The game is completely flowing and definately more balanced than -20. Strikers are now not so annonymous.

Also 4*, which I perceived as my level in PES, is now my level in PES2. So I'd call that a result.

Incidentally, it's a tosh piece of scripting on behalf of Konami that makes the rush-from-kickoff goals possible. If you watch, the two "covering" midfielders simply split in opposing directions from the kickoff, thus allowing the charge at goal. They don't respond to the players kicking off, they simply charge off in diametrically opposed directions as default, regardless. Slack, tacky and scripted.

Anyway, at least they get caught by the next line of defence now.

The PES2 experience is getting better, don't you reckon.

evo,

I think someone from the PesFan or EvoWeb forums will be doing that.

I'm sure you'll be hearing about it on this forum too.

The negative thing about completely replace the option-file is that you loose your master-league team and your own created team all the time :(
For that reason alone it would be handy to be able to write an editor. Than you can write it that way that it leaves your own created masterleague team and created players alone....
I am sure I can write an editor if I know the right format of that file...

I am having fun gathering all this info from everyone, so thanks everyone, cause as we speak, i still dont have PES2 yet (cause i live in Australia...& we are all suffering here cause its released in a week or so). :(

Anyway, i am a little confused. Peru, your idea of reducing some of the stats of dribbling etc etc sounds fantastic, but i also like Han's idea of importing PES (1) option file into PES2 in order to save all the editing of names etc.

My question (to anyone), will importing PES (1) option file into PES2 also change the stats of these players? eg will Roberto Carlos now have his stats changed to those of PES (1) stats (whether or not i altered them in PES1 or left them as the default stats), or is it just his name that will change? If the stats do change then this will have an effect on Peru's suggestion, because then u cant apply the same reductions to the stats.

Sorry if this sounds silly or if it has already been discussed elsewhere.

Ozzie,

I think the import of PES1 option file is to overcome the licencing.

Most players in PES2 have stupid names, but once you import the PES1 file (takes 2 seconds from a menu selection) almost all names are correct, and no licence was paid by Konami. Very clever of them.

Not stats, only names, I think.

Thanks for the response......so i can apply both ideas...BRILLIANT!!!

Thats one benefit we have here in Aust, we can gather as much info from you guys first & then when PES2 finally arrives here we can apply the best ideas. Its almost like you guys are testing it for us first (i would rather have it of course...just trying to make myself feel better actually...Cant handle the waiting anymore..im going nuts!!):crazyboy:

ozzie,

just so you know, PES2 is much improved from PES, but once you apply the attribute reductions (pere's) you will not believe the game you are playing, it's simply stunning.

you should be VERY VERY excited about getting it.

Yes, importing the PES-options file into PES 2 does only do the name-editing, so you can do both :)

i guess each one to their liking. doing the initial 20 points reduction changed the gameplay so much, that i felt like a cheater. currently i am only playing ML extreme, which is supposed to be, well, "extreme", and this large a redux totally took the edge of the CPUs attack. will try to stick with a 10 point reduction.

it also felt more like PES1 in the sense that i could take a fairly fast default player (like Burchet) to outrun the defenders on the wings and get it inside.

i think the key are really the dribbling stats and the response stats. i have the feeling they are all way too high. i mean, come on, a forward like Hamburg's Barbarez is not exactly a dribble genius. the other thing i would want to tweak a little (one or two points down) is the passing accuracy. seems the CPU keeps pulling those 100 yard shots which always exactly hit a needle on its head.

anyway. the game DOES feel more satisfying when you take the edge off of some attributes. so kudos to ubu for going through all this.

yeah, i think that reducing the stats is not going to work in the master league - i haven't tried that yet as I've only been modifying international teams.

The problem I have is that I still find level 5 rather easy, both at normal default speed and reduced stats - the players are just too skillful and passing is too easy. The way I have found best works for me is to stick with one team (Scotland) and reduce the the speed stats for both teams by 50 points and then for Scotland only, reduce the technique stats by 30 points and reduce the dribbling and passing stats by 20 points each. I actually increase the response stats for both teams by 10 points to stop those annyoing hesitations for players on both sides. The game becomes much more to my liking and it is more difficukt to get moves going - just like real football. Anyone finding level 5 a touch easy should give this a try.

The real shame is that you can't change the stats of the default ML team. Maybe KCET will eventually change the way the ML works to allow us to customise it more so we don't have to start with the default players.

I also think we need to start a campaign to get them to re-introduce the game-speed slider.
