Editing PES2 Stats - I Think I've Cracked It

I'm only guessing but . .

I think making these mods in all teams WOULD be reflected in the ML. As the game tooks to the options file for the players stats. Where else can it find them? And it's the option file you edit when you play with player stats and name changes etc.

In Edit mode, you can change the NAMES of your default ML team. So the only change playing ML with reduced attributes is that you default team has a higher spec than intended.

So if you edited ALL teams, then played ML, you'd have an easier time with Castello etc because the stats of these guys are the only thing that can't be modified.

Try this. Edit Castellos name, go into an already started ML, and see, his name has changed in the ML game you've already saved previously with his name as Castello.

The players KeyID is stored in the game save. On startup of the game, whiile it's showing splash screens, it reads the players KeyID from the game save, looks up the names for each ID in the options file, and shows you the currently saved name for that player ID.

I'm guessing but I bet I'm right.

john, of course they are reflected...there is only one stat file for one player, ML or not doesn't matter...

but that was not the problem. problem is that when you lower all stats ML "extreme" feels more like ML "hard". so why not play (default) "hard" in the first place? or you'd have to find a setting which is somewhere between "hard" and "extreme". because for me personally "hard" feels too easy in the long term (now, with the losers i am having troubles, but once i'll have my Inzaghi or Ronaldo it'll be too simple) -- and "extreme" feels just extremely annoying and i get my a.ss whipped constantly by superhuman Barbarezes, Ambels (?) and Vassels

this is all making my head spin. too much editing, too little playing. i think i am going the old fashioned way: keep the default stats and practice, practice, practice...

The real shame is that you can't change the stats of the default ML team. Maybe KCET will eventually change the way the ML works to allow us to customise it more so we don't have to start with the default players.

this would of course make the whole Konami ML concept obsolete -- you could start out with editing Castello to be better than Ronaldo, Miranda being a super Zidane and so forth...

i think having to work your way up is one of the strongest aspects of the PES series. you actually learn so much while building your team and starting to play good and making the right (or wrong) buying decisions. it would be a pity if that would go.

but about the speed slider: i totally agree...

yes and no....

I don' think KCET produce the player stats editor with the expectation that people will alter the stats of existing players the way that we now are altering stats for all players. So they set the default players in ML at a level lower than the average player and then have an "extreme" mode to provide the toughest ML challenge.

But it would not be my intention to alter the default ML players liek Huygens to make them better, but to make them worse. Han already highlighted on these boards that the defauly ML players have higher average stats now than in PES and are now pretty. skillful...too skillful, in my opinion. I'd really like the ML Division 3 to be full of a bunch of unskilled hackers with poor technique rather than the silky skills which the div 3 teams now have.

I do love the premise of the ML but I want it to have a more realistic feel....less skill, more brute force in Div3 and restrict the reallly skillful players to Div 1 only. Allowing us to edit the default ML team would help permit this as I could then create my own team of no-hopers.

I also don't really see the problem in letting people chose which club they want to start with, even if they want to start in Div 1 with Real Madrid and all the real players, Ronaldo, etc. If that's how they want to play the game, why not give them that option? I'll always look back to Sensible World Of Soccer as it offered the best options in that respect. Give the player more choice, that's why I say. We've all payed our money so let us play the game the way we want to play it...we all have different ideas about our ideal footy game.

art,

i basically agree... did not want to kick off an argument.... i was just thinking that conceptually this would work against a core element of the game.. i mean how many gamers would NOT fall for the possibility of starting out with a Real or Milan rather than an FC Nameless... sure, you and me and Han maybe not... but i agree, that it should be up to anyone to decide...

i am totally on your side also with the wish that Div 3 should consist of a bunch of loser teams. unfortunately (as you say) the teams which are in there play such stellar a footie that i am afraid i will never ever make it into the first division. and frankly, it pis.ses me off that KCET didn't make much of a difference between, say, a Ronaldo and a Barbarez. both in PES2 are strikers. both play brilliant. both score incredible goals. both get on my nerves. the only difference: in reality Ronaldo gets on my nerves as well, but i couldn't car less about freaking Barbarez who is a third rated, mediocre forward for hamburg (a mediocre team), and not a world class striker who dribbles like Pele.

i think KCET have to carve out a little more the difference between teams and individual players.

so?

Whats the suggestion for updates then?

Some people have said the shots are too powerful, has anyone reduced this?

Im waiting for my PS2 to come back

simak,

I wasn't arguing, just continuing the discussion :)

It is possible to edit the attributes of the Division 3 players to make them less skillful. If you knock around 40 or 50 points off their technique stat, they don't trap the ball so immediately, sometimes requiring a second to get it under control. Also, reducing their long and short passing accuracy stats by a similar amount means their passes are less likely to be as pin-point accurate. You could also reduce their stamina, speed, dribbling and other stats by 20 or 30 points. This will result in much more scrappy, realistic division 3 games. I've been trying this with some of the international teams and it does work reasonably well so it should work in ML.

Of course, this is where I now want to be able to edit my deafult ML players stats to make them much less skilled too. The only thing I can think of is to play a season or two in Division 3, easily winning lots of games to accumulate money/points, but being careful not to win promotion. Gradually sell all your defualt players and buy a bunch of duds and eventually you'll be in a position where you have a team full of hopeless turds, and division 3 will still have a lot of other teams with poor skills. The football will then be far more scrappy but a good challenge.

When buying your duds, you may even want to create some new players from scratch and give then really low stats (ie. single figures) so that they are even worse than the division 3 players that you edited, then buy them all up with all the points you accumulated.

But it's a lot of work. This is why I would like to see the way KCET handle the ML is changed. I think if they made the default ML players really poor and the other Div 3 teams scrappy, some people would complain that it is too hard and the football too scrappy. So if they included the option to start with whatever team you want so that those who want to play pixel-perfect soccer can do so but those who want to play real football, can also do so. At the moment, all 3 divions are full of top quality teams and to me, playing in Div 1 is little different to playing in Div 3....not very realistic. But somehow I don't think we'll ever see KCET do this.

The other problem is that KCET only focus on elite sides so we end up with decent European teams like Olympiakos in Division 3. If they made all division 3 teams really poor, Olympiakos fans would complain that their team is much better than that.

cymon,

The shots of some players are very powerful but it tends to be only the elite strikers like Vieri, Ronaldo, etc. The lesser players have less powerful shots. At first, I tried changing the power but I actually prefer the default power.

Question

Is everyone playing PES 2 on PAL?

I took my PES2 to my brothers last night and we only played a ccouple of games but I have to say I dont think the games faster than PES, if anything I feel it is slightly slower. On default settings I reckon that the game is easier though so I think when i get my PS2 back im gonna alter the stats. Me and my brother won 5-0 against arsenal in partner mode on level 3, now in single mode this wouldnt be unusual for me (playing at 4/5), but on partner mode we never win that well.

All in all I wonder if there is enough improvements in this game, but having only played a couple of games I like it enough to dump PES!

Heres waiting for my PS2 to come back!!

Oh and please what are the recommended stats changes now???????

the tip u gave is superb, using square to take 10 points off at a time saves A LOT of time, you get into a rythm as well, i was glad when i finally got to the end, it is definately worth it though :) you can't just skin everybody anymore :p

i spent countless hours reading in the fifa forum how fifa sucks and all that, and while I agree Fifa is not the best game I have ever played, the fact that you have to spend over 2 hrs editing a game to make it enjoyable.. I really dont see how it is much better, When I spend my money on a game I want to know what I get, not have to change the whole game to actually find it playable..

valioso,

Firstly, have you ever played PES2 ?? (or PES?)

Secondly, I (and countless others) used to spend hours editing our FIFA setup.

The thing is about the PES series is that it's so realistic to the real thing.

The other thing is that some of us, me included, are super-fussy about our realism.

PES2 is far and above the most realistic footie game. We just decided that there is a way of improving it. You see, PES2 is so good that you can edit it slightly and make it almost completely play exactly like real footie.

Regardless of how much you improve FIFA with stat tweaks, it's still a clunky arcade game.

Now given the options you have, which would you rather play?

seeing how I dont have the option to play pes2 I stick with fifa, and yes i have pes and I played it to death and it was good.. but all I have heard in this forum is that pes2 is too easy, too fast and too arcadey.. not to mention the way out of date rosters..

Do you really prefer FIFA to PES ???

What's important to you with a football game, i.e. lifelike faces and stadiums, gameplay, updated rosters???

I'm curious.

whats important? Fun, thats the most important aspect in a game for me.
I am having fun playing the new fifa, I had fun playing pes, but it wasnt a challenge anymore, I havent played pes2. And the updated rosters, faces, real kits, real teams and real stadiums do help create the atmosphere, and the gameplay although not perfect and not as good as pes, it has improved a lot and I am having fun playing fifa this year, after hating, 2001, and 2002 and world cup

I quite agree with you, it should be fun.

Perhaps what we've established, is that we all get our fun in different ways.

Personally I'd sacrifice almost everything for gameplay, but don;t get me wrong, I'd LIKE accurate faces, stadia etc.

I loved Fifa until 2000, which was much worse than 99. That's when I looked for a different game cos the gameplay sucked too much, and found ISS/PE2.

So to answer your original questions

>the fact that you have to spend over 2 hrs editing a game to make it enjoyable

Only if editing for 2 hours DOES make it enjoyable. We obviously think it's worth the effort.

>When I spend my money on a game I want to know what I get, not have to change the whole game to actually find it playable

Well, we COULD play it as it comes, many will. But if you could change the game to make it breathtaking, wouldn't you want to?

Finally, if you DO choose to get the game, you'll have to decide for yourself.

sadly I am in North America and dont get that choice.. when is Konami going to wake up and realize they are missing 2 major markets.. 1 North America, and 2 the xbox and gamecube and pc markets..
and I would probably get pes2 as well as fifa,
I think the battle between pes3 and fifa 2004 should be a good one..
I agree that until this year fifa games have been umplayable, from fifa 99 (which started the whole ping pong idea) until world cup 2002...
