Anyway I got one note for the Aussies, and that is that England is not Great Britain, it's just a quarter of it. Damn those common misconceptions.
Yeah i think most aussies know this..but...
The UK is the "mother country" of Australia, BUT England is the major part of that country we have a rivalry with. In some sports, the UK is represented as the UK, so we beat them as the UK. In others, the UK is represented as England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, in which case, our major rivalry is usually against England.

We understand that they are different (UK and England), BUT in sports where the UK is represented, then that is the "ashes" for that sport.

Cheers

An email I got this morning. I thought I should share ... :D

Soccer NZ today rejected a request from the FA for an England v NZ friendly to be played in the NZ winter, saying the game would likely be 'hardly worth it' following lowly England's recent loss to a second-string Australia side.

'We'd have to make entry to the game free to attract a crowd to see a low-calibre side like England, and the takings from the raffles and sausage-sizzle probably wouldn't be enough to cover the cost of the hot water for the showers, especially when you look at how many bloody players they have', said Soccer NZ Chairman Bill Franklin from his offices at the Poenamo Pub today.

'It's a bit of shame', added Franklin 'cause it looks like they've
got some decent young blokes in their team, and developing soccer nations like England need exposure to high-standard opponents like the Oceania teams'.

New Zealand All-Whites captain Harry Ngata echoed the Chairman's concerns, and although thought England could take heart from their recent result, doubted many of the NZ players could get time off from milking cows to play the game, and also noted that the game would probably be 'smack in the middle of lambing season'.

'We're probably better off just concentrating on our upcoming match with Tonga', Ngata said.

Meanwhile Australia coach Frank Farina has come under fire at home about the disappointing 3-1 result. He today dismissed criticism regarding his reluctance to pick 'proper Aussies' for the England match as 'bloody bullsh*t', instead claiming that the European-based players need a chance to prove themselves too.

Farina hit back at top NSL clubs, Wollongong Wolves and Brisbane
Stars who were reluctant to release their top players for the international claiming the match was 'farcical', and insisting that they were better off retaining their top players for the upcoming matches with league high-flyers, the Auckland-based Soccer KiNgZ. In some cases clubs were seeking multi-hundred dollar payouts to release the players for the match dubiously billed as an 'international', recognising that England is not really a proper country anyway, just a principality like Wales.

'I'm glad we didn't pull all the blokes from the NSL (National Soccer League) over there, it could have been an absolute bloody
embarrassment. We could have been lookin' at 6- or 8-nil if we'd had our Australia-based players, and that's no good for anyone' said Farina. 'Plus with the cost of the flights, it would have been a waste of bloody money.' Farina's frustration was evident, noting that England coach Sven Goran Eriksson wouldn't even buy him a beer after the match, despite his £2m a year pay packet. 'Swedish w*nker' Farina was heard to have uttered.

ROFLMAO :D

4. Netball... 2-0 in a 2 match series Series
5. Darts... Australia's Tony David beats England's Tony O'Shea in the final of the World Championship
6. Hockey (Field)... Despite England's women's team beating Australia 2-1 in the Semi Final at Manchester (2002). Australia beat them in November at the World Cup

7. SOCCER (FOOTBALL)... 3-1

8. Summer Olympics... Australia finishes 4th on the medal table at Olympics... England (Great Britain) finish 10th (2000)
9. Commonweatlh Games... Australia tops the medal table at the Commonwealth Games... England 2nd (2002)
10. Winter Olympics... Australia wins 2 Gold medals at the Winter Olympics... Great Britain wins 1 Gold, 2 Bronze. (2002)

ENGLAND

1. Rugby Union... England beats Australia 32-31 at Twickenham... However, Australia still holds World Cup
I wouldnt give ENgland/UK the Rugby either. We beat the British Lions which are meant to be better then England, and besides in that England test match, we had arrived in the coutnry about a week before it, played no warm up matches, it was at the end of a hard domestic campaign and during our offseason, we had half our players out injured or playing injured...AND still we lost by one point, but scored more tries then England...neway, we'll see after the world cup who's better at Rugby. As ive said before, the top northern teams never play the top southern teams, when BOTH are at their peaks...

Id also like to throw in some other sports that are world wide...Things like Swimming (at worlds etc), cycling (we were 2nd in the Road world championships with mcewen, UK werent near that), Track world championships (we topped themedal tally)...

Basically, yes australians really take their sport seriously, BUT if ur nation was as good as ours for the amount of people in it (we only have about 20Million), then im sure you would too...

Australia and then New Zealand are the best par captia sport nations in the world.

Ok then, i have my own theorys on why we Aussies exell in most of the Sporting Events that have been mentioned in this interesting thread. What i am asking is for any of you guys be you Aussie, Kiwi,British or infact from any part of the World to come forward and post your own ideas on just wHy the Aussies are Winners in the Sporting Arena.

Ok i will start off from the grass roots, all the Aussies here already know that on any given weekend '52 weeks per year' there are 1000's upon 1000's of young kids from say 5 years of age, and adults taking an active part in organised sporting activitys, you name it, it is happening somewhere out there on the parks, pools or in the ocean at the Surf Clubs.

This for a talented and dedicated few is the start of the long and hard road to the top, now can any one else continue from where i leave off here and add your own ideas. -- :)

Paul is 33 years old and lives in England, one of the world's poorest sporting countries. This once proud nation has fallen to unimaginable lows, well below anything that you or I could understand. Almost on a daily basis these people refer to sporting achievements that occurred nearly forty years ago, we cannot allow this to continue. There are hundreds of thousands of people like Paul waiting to finally support an England team that will win. If you want to help improve the life of a person like Paul become an England Supporter Sponsor.

As an England Supporter Sponsor, you will receive a photo and details of the poor unfortunate England supporter you are sponsoring. We will send you updates on the work we are carrying out in the England Supporters community in partnership with the local people. You'll also receive annual reports on the progress of your supporter, how they are getting on at concentrating on a game that they can win like toe wresting, for example.

If you wish, you can write to your sponsored supporter - your letters, postcards, jerseys, and sporting stories will be treasured by them. You will receive a reply so you can see in many ways what a positive difference your contributions are making.

We are dedicated to improving the quality of life of the world's poorest sporting nation. By becoming a England Supporter Sponsor, you'll be touching a supporter's life in the most profound way possible - by helping to provide them with a chance of winning something, anything, they're not fussy, even conkers is a sport that some have lowered themselves to in an attempt to be world champs. It costs only $10 a month to sponsor an England Supporter - just 35c a day to give them a chance at winning something - that's less than the price of a tinny.

When you sponsor an England Supporter, the effects of your kindness spread across the whole community. You will provide life's essentials like a decent cricket team, a basic Olympic team, a consistent soccer team, a netball team, non choking tennis players, and a rugby team that can win the games that count . You can sponsor an England Supporter as long as you choose or as long as they need your help. However this will not be a short process, lets face it most of us will be dead before England have a team to be proud of, but we must try.

You can start sponsoring an England Supporter today by completing an application. If you do, you will be linked with an England Supporter instantly. There are hundreds of thousands of them out there suffering today more than we will ever know. We'd like to link you with an England Supporter living near you so that they can learn from your example and if you wish you may specify a preference to sponsor a cricket or a soccer supporter, as these are the ones in the greatest need.

Please think about this request thoughtfully, remember all the great sporting achievements you have witnessed in your life time, many of these England supports cannot remember one, just the taste of bitter defeat. History has shown how sport can greatly improve a country's standing, only a few short years ago Australia had an extremely high unemployment rate but thanks to sport we have fewer jobless than most. This is because of all the trophies we have won, people are needed to polish them, brasso and chamois need to be made to help with the process, this in turn creates a more prosperous community.

This is your opportunity to make a difference in the world, please don't ignore their plight. Just be thankful that your relatives tried to steal a loaf of bread once.

I thought this was funny and had to be posted! :crazyboy: (H) :D :rockman: :hump:

That wouldn't suit me, I'm a cold climate person. I should move to Melbourne.

Another with zero appreciation of the rivalry between the two nations. Aren't you the Jordanian guy? Forgive me if I'm wrong (I can't keep track of all the bloomin' Man U supporters) but I'd pit the Aussies against the Jordanian national team any day of the week.
