England vs. Russia [P+R]

Starting XI
Our chances are slim :( In order to qualify Russia have got to win all of the remaining matches. So everything will be clear right after the next match against England at Luzhniki (:/)

You'll have a big advantage on the plastic pitch.

I'm positively foaming at the mouth at the prospect of Owen terrorising premiership defenses week in week out :)

I think Heskey has proved you wrong with his first half performance, he may not score the goals that Crouch does but he's 20x better at holding up the ball and being a target man. Having said that, i hope England don't just resort to long balls - but it's an option.

Great performance so far (Y) Barry has been class.

Owen's back (H)

Agreed - Heskey did well and it was a good assist. Although I still think Crouch is a better player who I'd much rather have at my club (maybe unless I had Owen!). I feel he can combine target man duties with a good amount of goals when he's on form. Heskey did his job well but in fairness we COULD have done equally as well with Crouch (we will never know). There is an argument that Crouch encourages stupid long balls and whilst that isn't his fault it might be true. I guess it doesn't matter as Heskey did fine. I suppose the question is should Rooney come back?

I believe it was mainly the midfield being balanced for once which helped us most over the two matches. Barry should definitely keep his place and I'd not change the midfield regardless of who returns from injury. McClaren has stumbled on this team by luck, but I'd admire him for sticking with it.

I REALLY hope McLaren doesn't put all the "big boys" back into the team. I think we've found the right balance. Though I really can't see Steve dropping Lampard and Rooney to play Heskey and Barry. :(

this isnt the same plastic pitch that some english clubs had in the 80s. luzhniki uses new UEFA approved technology.

i really hope croatia go on a losing streak and both russia & england qualify.
