The result was probably a fair reflection of the contest but I can't help but feel that we were harshly done by by the referee (yet again this season).
In the first half I thought we looked edgy, and Arsenal had the better of it (and took a deserved lead early in the 2nd half). It felt that we were working hard to win the ball back and would, more often than not, give the ball back to Arsenal immediately. It's no wonder Arsenal dominated first half in posession and chances, but our defense held firm. (we actually looked more solid than Arsenal over the course of the match I felt)
Lehmann looked like a lemon on more than a couple of occasions in fumbling lofted balls, but United just weren't ticking. The highlight of the first half for me being Djemba's rasping strike from outside the area. (From what I've seen, he's looking like the player that will take over Keano's role - he lost control of the ball on a couple of occasions through lack of concentration, but I felt comfortable with him in the middle. A lot more comfortable than with Phil Neville and recently Nicky Butt player, unfortunately for the 2 Manchester lads).
As for the second half, United were much, much better after Henry's goal. United were controling the flow of the game and whilst I was concerned that we wouldn't score, you had the feeling that an equaliser was inevitable.
Henry's goal was spectacular, and I felt Carroll could've done better until I saw the flight of the ball. I doubt very much that Henry intended the flight of the ball to be like that and was fortunate with the sweve because it was a pretty straight forward save other than that, but it was a powerful shot none-the-less.
Saha's goal was the result of some hard work from United, and was deserved. I felt that United found their passing in the second half and we looked much better after the introduction of Solskjaer for Fletcher. It was a shame that Ronaldo had picked up an injury because whilst Fletcher was doing well, we were quite sterile down that flank.
Obviously the introduction of Saha helped us along too. When Ruud was playing the lone striker role it seemed that, by chance, he'd attack towards a post and the ball would be played to the other. That's the decision you make as a striker. Scholes, who would normally get into the other position, wasn't doing so in yesterday's game. After Saha's introduction, you could see that it was starting to happen, and it was that chance that made the equaliser.
Henry's dive to try and win a penalty add's weight to my argument in the 'modern technology' thread. That sort of behaviour deserves discipline as it's nothing short of deceit. Yellow carding players obviously isn't working because I can't remember many bookings for diving and diving is probably more commonplace now that it has been since the days of Klinsmann. But that was a dive worthy of a booking. I wonder if Wenger will ever refer to Henry's cheating?
Vieira was fortunate to escape a yellow as well for his persistent offending. The studs up challenge of Van Nistelrooy aside there were times when he was constantly offending, minor offences mind but it was happening too often.
Scholes' yellow was a joke. A booking for a tangle of feet?! Then, moments later, Neville slid in late on an Arsenal player and got away without a booking, when one was deserved imo.
As for the penalty incident... I have no idea what Poll was thinking. Maybe we should start a month long argument about how unlikely you are to get a penalty at Highbury.
Joking aside, it was a bad call.
All in all, I was pleased with United's display. I felt that in the 2nd half we finally awoke from our 2-3month long slumber and showed how United can really play. More of the same at Villa Park and I'd feel that we have more than a chance against Arsenal, who were tested for the first time all season yesterday.
