epsxe vs cvgs emulator

I am on the edge of buying ISSPE2 now. Just a couple of questions.

As I understand it, the game works perfectly with the two emulators mentioned. The difference is: epsxe: better graphics; cvgs: easier to install (and not for free?). What do you mean with better graphics? Better than the playstation version? And does cvgs delivers the same quality of graphics as the playstation, or less?

Question two: you can play with a keyboard via epsxe, but can you play it the same way via cvgs?

And finally: is there any way to edit names, shirts and attributes in ISS?

Please answer my questions. I am a real fanatic in soccergaming and feel it's a downright shame that I haven't played ISS yet.

Thanks in advance!

I forgot two questions:

Where can I download the bios for epsxe?

I have a dvd drive, no cd-rom. Do any of you expect any problems with that when using epsxe or cvgs?

Thanks again!

EPSXE- just has a higher resolution, so the graphics are much clearer. also, you have to configure your video plugins, so it takes a while.

CVGS- normal playstation graphics, just pop in the disk and thats it. you can configure the keyboard to your liking. it is for free, just click "buy later" when the order screen comes up.

you can edit names in ISS.

graphics on VGS obviously looks poorer than a playstation, whereas epsxe is about 90% of the playstation, i think. :)

u really must know that the controls are more complex then FIFA and the keyboard would not acheive the efficiency of a Gravis gamepad.
For example, the direction of ur pass is important bcuz unlike Fifa, U can pass where U like. Hence if u press the direction wrongly, U lose the ball instead.

U can edit the Names and attributes, but not the Shirt/stadium/Adboards, etc...

and Man r u right that its a big shame that U have not play ISS PE2 when U considered urself a Soccer Fan. :)

Well, thank you guys. I'm trying to download CVGS, but all I can download is an update, and when I try to install that, it asks for the original disk. I've been trying to download from www.psxemu.com and the official connectix-site. Anyone to help me? I want to buy ISS today!

YES! I just bought ISS and I am playing it via the CVGS-demo.

My first impressions:

Graphics are godawful: 22 blocky blokes running around some green surface. I really hope I can get espxe to work, someday.

Gameplay: absolutely fabulous. Everything they say is true. Even with this rudimentary graphics I have fallen in love at first play. Played two matches now (Holland against Jamaica), and lost (with Holland) two times with 3-0. But what a matches they were! My biggest problem is that I don't seem to get the ball beneath the crossbar.

Well, after all these years of soccergaming, I feel that I have finally taken the next step in my evolution. Now, if I only could get the graphics right! Help me, anyone.

VGS sux and epsxe can be configured to about 300% of playstation console graphics, depending on your graphics card.

who cares about the resolution of the graphics if the game is so good. the graphics are exactly the same for both emulators except EPSXE has higher resolutions. and you have to configure EPSXE for a while untill you get it just right including cd-rom, video, fps, and more ****.

Don't fight over what emulator is the best. I just want to make a good comparison and for now I can play the game very easily with cvgs, whilst having NO CLUE how to make espxe to work. I've downloaded the program, but that's about it.

I don't hate the graphics in cvgs, but that's because the game so spectacular good that I really don't mind. I really think the reviewers are referring to the graphics shown via a normal ps1, not via cvgs.

But I still have that one question: how do I get espxe to work, beginning with the BIOS.

Oh, and for those of you who use CVGS: when you're using the free demo, is there any way that you can save data?

Please help me, thanks in advance

Agreed Iceboy, the Epsxe graphics are very very good indeed and why not try to get Epsxe configured to your systems, that way you have the best of both worlds, a great football game along with the PC enhanced graphics .. Ok then lads if any of you need the bios and heaps of plugins for Epsxe, all you have to do is email .. Icq me for a link to them all, also here is another ISS info site you could visit for a tad of help on the plugin setups for Epsxe .. Ned :D

i think the graphics are really good for a playstations game. take some time to apreciate it. all the reviewers gave the game high scores in the graphics department. just get used to it, and get the fifa graphics out of your head.

to save in CVGS you have to buy the full version. that is the only bad part.

im not trying to argue, just giving an opposite opinion.

CVGS runs in 2D which is worse than playing with a PSX on tv. Epsxe has 3D gtaphics plugins.

It is definatly worth spending the time setting up EPSXE to run ISS. You can get the graphics running great and very smooth frame rates. Although CVGS is easier to use than EPSXE, it doesn't do the game full justice. Check out some of the other threads on this forum for some good tips on getting EPSXE running well.

Well, thanks to NED I've got expse up and running. It makes a great difference! Only two downsites, up until now, but maybe I just have to tweak the settings:

There seems to be some kind of delay in smoothness, sometimes, and the gameplay seems to be faster (even on the slowest setting) and I always thought ISS was a slower, tactical game.

But, again: the game is great!

koek7, Try setting the video display to a higher res, that way it might slow the game down for you and nice to hear that you got it all up and running at last .. Now then lads there still seems to be some minor problems that some of the newer users are facing on how to get the Epsxe Emu configured to any given system, so what i am about to suggest is for anyone interested to post a list of there own system specs and the plugins that work for them, that way it should be a lot easier for the other users to compare them to there own setups..
i think that all is required are the one that are listed here ...

1:> I have found that two different bios revisions do work on my system .. scph7502.bin and schp1001.bin
2:> Cpu is a celeron 300a clocked to 450mhz
3:> Sound Card is .. Awe 64
4:> 196 x 100 mhz ram
5:> Video Cards are Voodoo 2's in sli
6:> Nvidia Tnt 2, but i havn't configured the plugs for this one.
7:> Ide cd rom, have any of you guys got Epsxe configed to either a Scussi or a Dvd drive yet.
8: The Resolution is set to 1024 x 768 and gives a realistic frame rate, with no frame skips or lock ups, my system isn't the current tech that is available, but it runs just about everthing that i toss at it with no problems at all..

Plugins that work for me are thus.
1:> Both the abovementioned bios revisions
2:> Lewpy's 3dfx/Glide³ GPU 1.29 .. Video
3:> ePSXe SPU core 1.4.0. ... Sound
4:> ASPI Driver 1.2 .. Cd rom controller.
5:> CyberPad 1.0 .. netplay, but still nutting this one out.
6:> gamepad, mmm, anyone got any ideas on how to work the tricks to get the Microsoft Freestyle gamepad working 100%, at the moment it only works on two buttons, drat ..
I don't have a clue on how the Gforce or Matrox series of video cards perform, so if any one could help out with that one, well, that would be just great.
Later on today i will be posting a few pics up in my kennel for anyone to have a look at to see the display differences between the Cvgs and the Epsexe emu's, that way it should give the guys some idea about the Vga and higher res options, and there definitely is a marked difference, once that you compare them. .. Ned
